Undecided: Better Nissan Xtrail or Qashqai?

I am considering one of these two cars. What is your view or preference?

    Neither. Don't get a Nissan.

    • Lol

You're much better off with a Toyota or Mazda then. Look better, drive better, engines better, gearbox better, interiors better, resale value better etc.

Edit: Your comment said you liked the CRV and wanted something made in Japan before you edited it.

        • Sorry I messed up with edit then stopped me fixing it because it was already answered. Thanks for your input

@dogboy: Corolla is one of the best driving small hatches on the market at the moment behind the new 3. And as for recalling, there should be more of that going on by ALL manufacturers. It just means they're openly admitting to design faults and rectifying issues in their vehicles rather than letting them slide, and paying attention to the product that goes out. I'd rather a car company recall a common/known issue than being left in the dirt like Holden did with the widely documented oil consumption issues in the Colorado.

        He's right though

      • I have had a Qashqai “TI” variant for three years, absolutely no issues with it.It does a few long trips(Broken Hill(1200ks) Hervey Bay (1600ks) very comfortable vehicle.Do not listen to the negative comments from the so called “know it alls”.Buy what you want.Nissan as a mainstream brand is no different to any other manufacturer.🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎

My view is that you should decide, as you will be driving it.
My preference would not be a Nissan.

    • Of course, I hoped to know opinions from owners of these models

  • OP we need more background, why do you want these two cars? what you are looking for, how much you prepare to pay?

Looked at both of these for a friend recently. X-Trail was quickly dismissed as too big (and if you're considering smaller options is it too big for you also) and Cashcow was just meh. Didn't offer anything that couldn't be found cheaper elsewhere.

You're the one spending the money though so which do you prefer?

    • I have a sedan now, but also children, and their bikes don't fit in the boot. My wife for some reason likes the Xtrail so I am looking at this brand and noticed that Qashqai it's just slightly less than Xtrail at cheaper price

      • +2

yeah, as much as you don't like your kids.. you shouldn't put them in the boot

I had the same scenario & bought used X-Trail - great car..goes effortlessly ! Lot of space ! Can't complain ! Way more fuel efficient than my camry !

Owned the xtrail and was a great family car. Plenty of room , comfortable, had no issues with it. Back seat accomodation is fantastic. Fuel economy was pretty good for a car that size. Very easy to drive. It may not be the most dynamic car but it did everything effortlessly. I did test drive the qashqai and it felt a little bit more dynamic but was too small for what I needed. I have moved onto a sport sedan now which I love, but I do miss the simplicity and comfort of the xtrail

  • Xtrail is obviously bigger than the Qashqai, which will make it more expensive.

Pick the size/budget that you want.

children and the bikes don't fit in the boot

So leave the children at home.

  • +3

X-Trail is meh. Qashqai rides like crap and gets terrible highway economy. Horrible stereo

Which one is the right size for you? The qashqai has a lot of tech for the price if you're into that. Also I don't think the 4WD Qashqai is available in Australia yet so consider that if it matters to you.

We were also contemplating one of these and after test drives went with neither. We ordered a RAV-4 Hybrid, although with the ever lengthening wait times, that hasn't worked out so well.

We preferred anything from Subaru over anything from Nissan. You can find some excellent deals on the Forester. Similarly we found pretty excellent deals on the Mazda CX5.

If the children and bikes (I assume you mean adult bikes) won't fit in the sedan they're not gonna fit in the X-Trail or other medium SUV either with the second row up since the boot length and width is around the same as an average sedan. You're better off getting a towbar and bike rack for your sedan or a roof rack with a bike mount.

My partner has owned a Qashqai for 4 years.
Its great value to begin with, but ive never owned a car that has required more maintenance and issues than this one.
Id say stick to something actually Japanese BUILT.

    • +3

You’re right, I just found out Qashqai are built in UK while Xtrail are still made on Japan

      • Built in Sunderland

      • Some are, not all. They're also made in China, Russia and Japan. Aussie models are sourced from Japan. Confirm with your dealer.

        • +1

ALL Qashqai’s for the Australian market are made in the UK(Sunderland)The quality is very good(I have had NO issues with mine.)

  • +1

    Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

  • Personally neither. But if I had no choice, I would choose the X-Trail in a Manual (I will never touch a Nissan with a CVT). Since it present much better value than the Qashqai

    • No issues with T32 - 2014 onwards !

Go have a look 5-10 year old Nissan's at any dealer and see how they age. Then have alook at Toyota.

I owned Nissan Teana for 8 years when they came out and it was an awesome car. After 8 years it still felt and drove like new.

Wanted to buy 2nd hand Xtrail for my wife, had a look few and they could not compare same year RAV4. Bought RAV4, wife chose the colour :)

    • +2

X-Trail 4-5yrs is superb value for money vs RAV4 or CX5

      • Money wise I agree with you :)

    • Do you mean as they look more obsolete than Toyota or they get worn more?

      • +1

They looked much more worn, internally and externally.

        • Not my experience - I looked couple before buying one…

  • +2

Nissan Xtrail has always been a good reliable car with resonable economy and also holding thier value better than other cars. They are very sought after in the used car market

    Cant comment on Qashqai, sorry

  • +2

The Qashqai is fine.I have three vehicles. This one I have had for three years.(“TI” variant) has been faultless.Great long distance hauler.(one of the best I have owned in over 40+ years.)Buy what you want & what meets your requirements.Do not listen to all the negative feedback from some of the posters who have been commenting.Njoy your purchase.
