So I had a Solar Panel system installed recently. Currently with Tango Energy and while I have been very happy with their service, their Solar feed in tariff is basic at 12 cents. I export about 45-55kW on sunny days. I use about 7-9kW on average but expect it to go up to 20kW in Summer.
While doing a comparison of energy retailers on https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/ Amaysim Energy comes up as the top recommendation (20 cents FIT). I don't have a good opinion about the retailer and I see very poor reviews about their services and dodgy discount system in the past. But they seem to have amended their plans now and after crunching the numbers, it looks like switching to Amaysim could reduce my PV system payback by more than a year. Does anybody here have any experience dealing with them recently?
TLDR : Should I switch to Amaysim Energy's solar plan if I have large solar export output?
FIT is only one piece of the puzzle. You need to compare ALL the charges, like daily service charge to have the power on, off peak rates, and peak rates (yes even when most of your daytime peak will be covered by the solar, your nighttime peak isn't).
You also need to compare are the rates inc or ex GST when comparing.
So 8c extra FIT on 40kw feed in is about $3.2 extra a day.
So crunch your numbers, put it this way, the gov sets that the FIT rate for solar @ 12c/kwh, any 'extra' they are giving you, has to be made up elsewhere.
