iPhone 11 Cashback/Non Cash Discounts

Hi,

I’m going to buy a new iPhone 11 or possibly 11 pro and I’m trying to figure out the best way to go about it.

I’ll be buying it on my 28 degrees credit card so I can get the free insurance and 12 months price protection. Because I’ll have the 12 months price protection I don’t really need the lowest price as I‘ll claim against it when the next great deal comes up. Because I’ll be using that credit card it rules out the normal options like 5% off gift cards or eBay coupon deals.

I’m wondering if any apple resellers offer cash back or bonuses on iPhone purchases which would not affect the amount billed to the credit card? TRS should be possible but I’m struggling to think of anything more…

  • Free insurance only lasts a year, so maybe you’d be better off taking out AppleCare if you plan on keeping it longer.

    • I’m pretty sure the free insurance is only 6 months. But it has no excess and covers theft as well as damage unlike Apple care. After 6 months I add it to home and contents for around $80 a year as a specified portable valuable, that gets it coverage for theft and damage again with a $100 excess. Apple care is a scam IMO. The cost is higher, excess is higher and if it’s stolen you have no coverage at all.

      • Is this through AAMI? Are you sure it's only $100 excess?

Also - screen damage excess for the iPhone 11 is only $45 under AppleCare.

        • +1

Allianz, and $100 excess is what PDS says.

$199 + $45 is still more than $0 (first 6 months) or $80 + $100 after 6 months plus covered for theft, damage apart from screens and international travel for 90 days.

          • @stirlo: Awesome I just re-read my PDS for my AAMI contents insurance, and $100 excess is the same for my specified portable cover.
            Defs not getting AppleCare either.

I guess the only catch with using contents insurance is that your premium will go up when you make a claim.

  • Can you claim price protection against eBay 15% off coupons etc or is it only for the advertised price, no coupons?

    • No coupons. But I’m not really worried about claiming the price protection (I’m certain the price will drop a few hundred dollars by around Easter and then a bit more when iPhone 12 comes out). It’s about optimising cashback/bonus coupons/trs and the likes.

  • How does the 28° insurance work? Does it cover accidental damage?

  • Please read What ISNT covered it it state that electrical or mechanical breakdown is not covered in merchandised protection. That would very much rule out Practically all product of interest posted on ozb
