we will wait for TGG to price match it to make it $556

  • +3

These prices are making it very hard to wait until Black Friday…

    • +3

I'd wait for R8 below 1k, no rush for me

      • +1

What features on the r8 are making you hold out?

        • +3

          Quantum dots

        • I'm also curious as to what features make the R8 better. I'm weighing up options at the moment.

        • +6

you put "Quantum" in anything make it better

          • +8

@ntt: Yeah it is the same stuff they put in Finish Dishwashing tablets as they do in the dots in the TV.

          • @ntt: Except maybe solace.

  • Is this better than the LG 65UM7400PTA for $984???

    • Yes

      • what about compared to the Samsung UA65RU7100WXXY 65" for $1000 on this deal?

        • Curious on this as well.

        • Yes.

        • I'd go with the Sammy if both are the same price. My experience with Hisense/TLC has been they are much slower compared to Samsung even in this price bracket… And if you think speed of TV doesn't matter think again.

Besides the universal remote you get with the Samsung is very cool!

  • All the mad lads are holding a grudge over the TGG deal from yesterday, this deal is not well timed lol

  • what was the other price? price difference for "the other deal"

  • Is this TV a big improvement over the P7?

    • +2

      Overview here

The main differences between 2019 R7 over 2018 P7 are

      • Dolby Vision (a superset of HDR10) and High Log Gamma (HLG)
      • Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 decoding (you need a Dolby Atmos soundbar to hear this)
      • Voice control (Amazon Alexa built-in and Google Assistant to come via a Google speaker)
      • Updated VIDAA 3.0 User Interface with AI content suggestions
      • Updated RemoteNow smartphone app
      • As well as HDMI 2.0 on all four HDMI ports.

  • Is this still a ghosting light bleeding mess?

    • No

      • +1

That's what people said about my P model. It would look better with a brick thrown through it.

        • Were you expecting OLED PQ on a cheap LED TV?

          • @serpserpserp: Not at all. I do expect not to have heinous ghosting and backlight bleed though. With people spruiking it over the other better brands I thought I'd give it a go. Had no issue paying for a better one if reviews hadn't been great. My old Panasonic shits all over it.

            • @brendanm: Have you tried to get a warranty replacement? If issues that bad, seems like you should be able to get a new one.

Just a general warning about Hisense TVs. They don't work well with universal remote controls (i.e. Logitech Harmony) when switching between HDMI inputs in activities. I'm not going to elaborate, just search on the Logitech forums.

    • Correct. Hisense TVs do not have discrete input switching so they're useless with universal remote controls.

    • What about something like Anymore ( with an IR blaster)

    • I have a logitech harmony one and have no issues thus far with getting it to work via activities. However, I'm usually only switching between TV and HDMI1 as I have everything running through an AVR which does the bulk of the HDMI switching.

    • +1

I had a Hisense 65N7 and it didn't have discrete HDMI input codes, but I've recently had it replaced under warranty with the 65R7 and input switching works!

    • Mine also randomly works through my theatre system, sometimes it turns in on and plays sound through it, sometimes it turns it on but uses the tv speakers.

      • HDMI control is sooo much better than universal remotes.
How is the HDMI control with this model?

        • Not sure on this one I have last year's P model and as mentioned above it's patchy, but works when it works, drives me.mental when it doesn't.

My 2011 Panasonic turned the home theatre on every single time without fail, and controls my Nexus player through HDMI, yet this brand new Hisense struggles to simply turn on the home theatre.

  • Doesn't post to Tasmania, sigh.

  • Great price. I paid About the same for 55 about 2 years ago.

I'm still waiting for that Ozbargain deal for 75 inches.

    • Some outlining bad experiences with Hisense. How about you?

      • Have been very happy with mine.

      • Have 65 p7 from last year and loved it so bought 55r7 for spare bedroom recently and also impressed. Recommended.

  • Thought this was in the league of Samsung Q80 65" ..?

If money isn't an issue, would the Q80 still be a better buy? Just wondering thanks

    • +2

65r7's comparison is probably with Samsung ru8000.

  • sure its not a pricing error ? :-Z @thebadguys

    • Doubtful it's a pricing error, it's the exact same price as the recent Videopro deal.

  • Wait for Black Friday, retail sales are at their worse in years going by the current news. They'll probably get worse in the future too.

I expect retailers to do big sales!

    • +1

When retailers are doing badly, they'll do anything to hold onto their margin. So I expect lackluster sales to be honest. If things were going gangbusters for retailers where they can expect massive turnover and incentives from manufacturers for sales volume that is the time you'll get killer discounts.

      • Valid point!

  • Does anyone know how it compares to the Hisense 65H8F for $901.75 below? From all those 'Top 10 TVs' article, it seems this is the best in Hisense lineup but couldnt really compare apple to apples in Aus.

    • Where are you going to buy this TV in Australia from?

      • oh, I thought Amazon shipped to Aus, when I checked last. Ignore if not. :)
