Ethernet over powerline & rain

Thought I might get some help here if anyone is using tplink ethernet over powerline.

So far I had burned 2 sets of these, and they all happened during rainy day, sometimes it would just lose the pairing whenever it rains outside, I just need to re-pair them, but for a larger than usual Melbourne piss, either one of the device will short circuit and will not turn on again.

The first time it was the header unit sitting next to my NBN modem, the 2nd occasion it was the child node sitting inside my living room, both located on ground level.

Apart from the units, no other electronics faulted, I did notice one of my led downlight been flashing on/off like a disco ball but it happens all the time during dry or wet day, everything else seems to work fine.

Any idea?

Look like you got some dodgy wiring, call a electrician.

  • don't only fix your dodgy wires, do yourself a favour and stop using powerline adapters - investing in an electrician to wire ethernet would be ideal

Powerline adapters are actually fantastic ways to cheaply and easily get internet to an area. I wouldn't write them off so quickly.

  • Sounds like you have exposed wiring somewhere and water ingress is causing it to short circuit.

  • I used to use this type of product, but now with wifi mesh system its so much better then Ethernet over power

  • Been using them for ip cameras did have a problem when they would sleep after a while then I found a flash and hasn't dropped data since to the router for at least 2 years
