As someone who drinks this stuff daily I don't disagree. However do you see how many stores are now open in the CBD feel free to take the plunge. There's at least 5 chains with 5 stores in the CBD ive probably been to 100 different stores over the last year.
So is the rental cost in city, especially in a high pedestrian area not to mention Australia's high minimum wage, and franchise fees. These shops either make or break it.
The price they charge is similar to other drinks, ingredients may be cheaper but running a business in the cbd is far from it.
Not to mention the amount of competition they have these days. I like bubble tea as much as it's not the most healthy options it's a nice cheat day drink.
Rent is high but they definitely have high margins and it's naive to think they pay minimum wage. Going rate is around 14 an hour no loadings or extras for weekends etc. The biggest issue is competition since the market is oversaturated.
Wouldn't be drinking bubble tea in such weather today! Already thinking twice if I should redeem the $1 McFlurry deal today…
(will probably get negged for this)
The profit margins on this stuff is enormous. Just sayin…
