NZ Sim Card?
Comments
https://simsdirect.com.au/ is you want one ready as soon as you land.
Thanks to @ThatKiwiFella & @JimmyF. Both options looks good, will do some reading now
If you need any advice or tips, feel free to ask! I'm a Kiwi, if it wasn't already obvious, happy to help out, although New Zealand is very similar to Australia, not too many differences
Spark normally has better coverage outside of urban area
Spark is the way to go. Just pick one up at the airport. Or once settled in the town of your choosing
Just came back from NZ yesterday. I just activated my vodafone roaming for 5$ per day. Cheap and no problem at all.
Nz prepaid sims have rubbish data. I'm heading home for Xmas i usually use telstra roaming as you get 2gb but i think I'm going to get a sim from sims direct for $49
https://simsdirect.com.au/collections/best-sellers/products/…Have used them previously in Europe and also US and its all been fine.
While this won't give you access when you land, in true OzBargain fashion: keep an eye out for Kogan Mobile NZ sign up deals and get it sent to your accommodation in advance.
Current offer: https://www.cheapies.nz/node/21580
$4.90 for 1.5 GB (last month was 32 GB)
(Kogan Mobile NZ use Vodafone NZ towers)
I'm doing research for a trip to NZ now in Jan 2024. Found this report which might be useful for those doing similar research …

who are they with now? I'm with vodafone here, and with the data pricing there it just never gets cheaper than using my $5 roaming.
I don't know the current 'data clock' prices, but at NZD6 for 24 hours unlimited data, plus the initial $19 prepay, unless I had a cheap Aussie SIM, it's more expensive going local than roaming.
It really depends on how much data you'll use. I used to do the basic prepay and that took care of data for maps and notifications, but if I was going to be doing anything more heavy i'd bost it up with the data clock app.
Personally, would just buy a prepaid SIM while here
Prepaid sims are usually $5 + plan fees.
Depending on what they're after, a $20 plan should suit.
4 main providers
2degrees
Spark
Skinny
Vodafone
They all have deals at similar price points, most popular for locals seems to be the ~$19. 1.25gb data, 200 minutes, unlimited texts.
Most plans also come with NZ/AUS calling and texts
Each has their perks, for example, 2degrees gives you a free hour of data every day with their app. Spark has 1 hour free WiFi when connecting to one of their hotspots
