Nope. 4k discs don't need upscaling. 1080p does.
Yeah ok everyone (hopefully) knows that, but this player therfore can output 4k resolutions but doesn't play 4k discs. That seems weird to me. It's like the target market is people that have 4k tvs (because they want the upscaling from FHD) but they don't want to play 4k discs. Who are these people?
The reason for this is that the player dates back to 2015 which predates 4k discs?
Be that as it may, you're buying an older item that is only 2.4ghz and 10/100 but it does play back off usb and smb so it some value for someoone and it does play back a slew of audio formats which is good fr me.
HOWEVER it only outputs via hdmi so not sure how that fits in for some.
4K discs use different codecs, which have different licensing fees to use…
This was common because 4K TVs existed before the 4K UHD blu Ray standard was completed and released. So in order to sell more tvs and more blu Ray players we had 4K upscaling. Early adopters, assemble!
Some TVs may even upscale better than this player, or at least you wouldn't notice.
This thing is a dinosaur.
I haven't bought a Blu-ray player in years. Are these still region locked? I don't necessarily mind Blu-ray locked to B, but I do mind if DVDs are locked to 4.
Yeah, region-locked can be a pain for some old DVD and even Blu-Ray collection.
After you've bought one blu-ray player, why would you need to buy another?
I feel like with 3d falling out of favour that either m6 3d Blu-ray player or my TV is going to fail and all my 3d Blu-ray will be useless, so considering this player as a backup. My current player is 3 years old and I picked it up for about the same price, this could be the last one in a while (although I haven't checked if current 4k players will play 3d, or if indeed the Xbox one S does)
Old one stops working? Newer model has more bells and whistles? Decide to have a second in the bedroom?
Any recommendations for a 3D TV to go with this collectors item? ;P
Lol yea.. literally haven't seen or owned a disc of any type for years
It's actually a good time to buy, I have bought a heap lately, I dont think I paid more than 10 Huck's for anything, and some were as lose as a few dollars. Tried to only buy things that were watchable multiple times
Each to their own I guess. I don't like clutter. My days of collecting DVDs stopped in 2006. Gave all my stuff away. Nowadays 100% digital.
@gimme: Not sure of anyone sells 3d via digital? So not sure of that's an option
Ironic how manufacturers still put 3D in their blu-ray players but not in their TVs
This is an old, discontinued model. If you happen to have a 3D TV, 3D discs and your old 3D player has stopped working, this is the deal for you.
Yeah but who doesn't already have a blu-ray player these days? They've been out for 12 years now. Players usually don't just stop working. I've got a 20 year old DVD player that works just fine.
I don't have a 3D Blu-ray player.
@JerryB: How often do you use 3D?
Just had a look and the current 4k players from Lg still support 3D. The 3D logo is centre between the 4k and HDMi logo, so its almost coming across like a main advertising point
4k upscaling but doesn't play 4k discs? Is that unusual?
