Panasonic Lumix DC-TZ90 Digital Camera (Black) $454 Delivered (AU Stock) @ Camera Warehouse

120

Hello fellow Ozbargainers,

I'm sharing with you today a decent deal on a camera quite close to my heart. Something that allowed me as a povo uni guy to pursue a hobby until now. This is a great all rounder with one primary failure being it's poor low light performance (this is something that can be improved if you save a custom preset for low light for example but don't expect it to be utterly amazing). Despite that however you'll find yourself with a camera that does a great auto mode high res photo and 4k video (4k video at 30fps), with a 30x zoom, great inbuilt image stabilisers which really flex themselves at full zoom (which for me on a clear day I can see clearly people's desks in buildings a few kilometers away from my office) and 20.3mp at $454. If I had to sum it up in three words it would be bang for the buck, you honestly get so much packed into a compact travel cam that you almost have to double take and ask yourself did I honestly pay so little for this?

It's internal battery is rechargeable via mini usb which makes this one of the few camera's you can recharge with a power bank in your camera bag. With two 10000mAh PB's I can make this last way way more than a whole day's use.

I've used mine for about a year now and bought it well above $550 a year and abit ago and now it's down to $454 which puts it $100 cheaper than the XR100 III from Sony or $200 lower than the G7X II and both are older higher end cameras with 180 degree flip screens and similar overall specs apart from larger sensors (this is not particularly relevant other than for low light since the smaller sensor in the TZ90 is also 2-3years newer comparatively and the technology has improved vastly to the point where it can honestly hold it's own against 1inch's) that perform roughly the same if not worse in certain aspects.

It's free shipping too which is a bonus.

It's not an Earth shatteringly good deal but if you're heading overseas for the Christmas break and you need something decently priced to take photos mainly during the day then this is the travel cam for you.

I'm still really crap at posting so if i've missed something let me know and i'll get on it. Cheers ladies and gents. FYI feel free to post any other camera recommendations, really interested actually what cameras are competing at this price point in late 2019.

Edit: friends have always given me crap for my choice because they google and spot the productreviews.com.au for this camera. To that I'd honestly just like to say that the people posting reviews on that site may be some of the most irrelevant things i've ever read. There's a few people who don't know how to use a camera relying on image auto correct softwares, another who had a case by case fault which was repaired within an appropriate time yet still gave it 1/5 and then another guy who did quote on quote 'research on the poor low light performance' yet was still surprised by the 'poor low light performance' and gave it another 1/5. I'd recommend my personal experience as a guideline or you're free to youtube proper reviews or see ones done by actual camera guys. Thanks!

Great review. Will look into it. Thanks.

    • I presume it has GPS, eg, to tell me when I'm in front of the Eifel Tower
(as well as to encode into photos, so I can find that view's location later)?

      Gotta LOVE Panasonic!

      Still… I think I'll wait for EoFY discounts… ;~)

PS Does it have the large rotating dial, on the back, like TZ-60 did/does,
      some years ago…?

      • Can confirm the menu dial is both a directional press pad as well as a spinny dial.

1/2.3-inch sensor compact cameras eventually will give ways to ever improving mobile phone cameras.

Not with a 720mm optical zoom.

Just realised I bought my TZ7 for $600 at this store ten years ago (at least the name and URL were the same - looks like they've since relocated or been bought out). Sadly my need for that type of camera nowadays is pretty rare and the one I still have (a Sony HX30V travel zoom) spends most of its time in a drawer as a backup.

    • I personally use my phone quite a lot (got a new pixel 4 recently but had a 2 and a 3 before that) and the photos are stunningly good for what they are.

Nothing can come between a proper camera and that though, the phone is really only for casual stuff.

Going after the perfect picture and scrubbing it in post is a super joyful experience. I'm heading to South Korea in a few weeks so I'm super hyped on how well this'll do for well lit food pictures in restaurants as well as at the snow. With past experiences I'm sure the brightness of the ski park will make the photos a sight to behold truly.

It'll also seem a little bougie but holding a proper camera just gives me so much more satisfaction. Pressing a digital representation of a button on a screen just or a volume button just isn't the same as the tactile one on top of the camera body.

      • What is a proper camera these days?

          I'd say anything that isn't also a phone :P

          • @Lighter Fluid: phone isn't fine?

That's blasphemy on this site ;)

  • I need to lay down

  • Hi Did you get yours delivered? I am concerned about the camera getting thrown about in the process of delivery. Cameras are after all very delicate instruments. My Sony camera stopped working just after one drop onto the ground.
