  • Bah! I remember they once were selling these for 1c each! Its now 6900% higher than that price!!!

    • Probably during the age when pharama companies were trialling Paracetamol.

      • Weren't these like 42c couple months ago?

Edit nope think it was 69c too, but limit of 2…

        • Limit of 2? we managed to buy about 8 boxes last time at that price.

          • @squall3031: What do you do with 800 tablets? Surely you can't be in that much pain.

          • @squall3031: We? So either you were with people or CWH didn't enforce it.

The price ticket usually says the Limit per person/transaction too.

  • great deal on drugs. drugs are great.
whats the difference between this and the name brand stuff?

    • +2

For me, taste. These are pretty chalky when you put them into your mouth and a bit harder to swallow. They have a bit of a yuck taste overall where more expensive stuff might be gel capsules or not as chalky

    • +1

this stuff is fine. they used it at the public hospital I visited.
      it works for me.

    • +2

Same active ingredient. No difference in effectiveness. They can start to dissolve and stick to your tongue a bit if you don't swallow them on the first try.

  • +3

and its 3 packets per person

I remember seeing an asian lady trying to buy like 20 boxes and chemist warehouse refused to sell it to her lol

    • +1

thats the first responsible thing ive ever heard of cwh doing

actually scratch that it was financially motivated. they dont want to sell too many loss leaders to one person.

      • +1

Don't know about that "Asian lady" but my grandma living here now is from 3rd world country so when she goes on holidays once a year we help her stock up so she can give it to people in need over there when she's visiting the temples and stuff too and shares with overseas relatives

      • I just bought five boxes in one go over the counter.
        Oddly, C&C maximum is one.

    • Go in 10 times, buy 30 packets, swallow all tablets at same time to proactively cure every headache you'll ever get again.

As an ED doc just wanna say there's probably not as many painful deaths as liver failure by paracetamol overdose, for the general population please don't take more than 4g/day for a long period of time. Toxic dose is 150mg/kg but in people with liver dysfunction even 50-100mg/kg daily for a long period of time can be enough to ruin your liver.

    • If you do OD, do they just give you NAC?

      • Yeah and supportive measures. NAC would only work given early enough though and even then it's not a guarantee. Other than that supportive measures and if young/ well patients may be liver transplant. Say you feel a bit sick with nausea/vomiting and abdo pain and then you take a tons of paracetamol, it may not be apparent whether you are feeling the toxic effects of paracetamol or the actual illness…

    • What about ibuprofen? Same deal?

      • -1

no. paracetamol is metabolised by the liver.

        ibuprofen by the kidneys.

        this stuff is easily googleable.

        • +2

I mean stuff might be easily googleable but understanding it in context is not necessarily so straightforward. That something is metabolised by a particular organ does not mean it causes damage to it. One of the byproducts of paracetamol metabolism is directly hepatotoxic at certain levels. Ibuprofen can cause renal impairment in combination with other drugs, but it's not inherently nephrotoxic.

    • Let's say you're taking Truvada so you can't take ibuprofen. Are there any alternatives to paracetamol I can actually take?

  • +1

I wouldn’t bother click and collect unless really necessary. They’re quite slow at it from every experience so far. Unless it’s just because nobody knows how it works just yet and needs a few more months.

  • -3

Thank you, going to Lebanon at the end of the month . Might get a few.

  • What do ozbargainers use for pain killers? Ibuprofen or paracetamol
Or when to use one over the other?

    • +4

They can be used in conjunction, just don't overdo the dosage. Personally I have a codeine script for migraines because nothing else works, but a general headache and a head cold is easily treated with paracetamol and ibuprofen at the same time.

      • long term ibuprofen/nsaid use can cause ulcers, kidney damage etc, so best to use panadol first.

  • +1

I can only seem to add one packet, I'll have to try to get more instore :(

  • +4

Perfect for the headache caused by missing a great bargain

  • +1

the usual panadol at woolies is like $10 bucks 12 tablets or something crazy. biggest rip off ever. including herron and the other brand

    5.50 for 20 pack woolies
    2.50 for 100 pack

  • -3

Unless it’s just placebo I find these pretty ineffective- (think they are made in India) compared to quick absorbing osteo Panadol which Knock me out if I’m in pain after weight training

    • +2

Same ingredient (whatever country it is made in). Slightly higher dose. Different marketing.

      • -2

Not necessarily so. Some immunosuppressant medication I take was told not to go with the generic version as there were issues with active ingredients and different absorption properties …

        • -1

          wrong.

          you are just wrong.

you've got a doctor and a pharmacist refusing your layperson misinformation.

please stop making a fool of yourself.

          • @Oliver: What sardines said Is actually a thing, in some cases scripts are marked brand substitution not permitted… i have seen this on many hsd scripts. That being said I think generic paracetamol is pretty basic these days and will work pretty much the same. Disclaimer: no medical training whatsoever, just worked with 1000’s of scripts per week for very expensive medicines that help a lot of people live a higher quality of life than they otherwise would

            • @Flozza27: by definition generics can't have different active ingredients that's all there is to it.

as for doctors marking scripts no sub permitted …. well you know how retarded some doctors, especially hospital doctors can be when writing script in general, and if you asked 1000 doctors why they marked the no gen sub box, 999 would be because thats the brand they like aka used to get holidays from… nothing clinical about that whatsoever

        • +3

All generics have the same API although they may use different "fillers" aka tablet bulkers, however in Australia all generics must prove to the TGA that the absorption, metabolism and excretion profiles match that of the original maker before it is allowed in the market.

    • Panadol Osteo is actually a slow release panadol, but for it "knocking" you out it does occur in some people but there is no physiological link that has been found that could cause this.

  • So are these the same as Pandora? Function wise?

    • +6

I would not suggest putting these on your charm bracelet.

    • +1

      Panadol. Yes

  • +1

I just picked up some from my local CW. Their system wasn't updated with the new pricing. She checked the pricing and advised me that the deal was only on for 2 days only, and ends tomorrow. Maximum 3 packs per person. So better hurry!

    • This is part of the Super Weekend deals lasting until close on Sunday

  • Sweet deal for hepatic failure!

  • Is there a deal for ibuprofen? What's the cheapest out there?
