  • Please ignore my ignorance.

Sometimes I wonder why dont we have cheaper versions by China avialable which has same feature as sonos.

And what is so special that they are that expansive

    • +1

Sonos design their own components in-house, from the amplifiers and circuit boards to the drivers and the enclosure. They don't use off-the-shelf parts. That adds to the cost.

But even assuming a manufacturer in China could duplicate the exact design at a lower cost, there's the value inherent in Sonos' software and well-reviewed multi-room audio features. That's far harder to duplicate, as are the integrations with dozens of music services.

Are you paying a premium over and above all that? Absolutely. Sonos is a large brand with an equally large marketing budget, and the hardware price also factors in that cost, along with a healthy profit.

There's a very good chance cheap Sonos clones exist in the market. You've never heard or seen them because they're garbage, because decent multi-room audio isn't a simple problem to solve.
