This is a great deal if you live in SE QLD and after a lower cost option from a Tier 1 level panel maker that have an office and warehouse in Australia (Brisbane since 2014). The company (AKCOME) recently won a $2M tender to supply solar to 21 sites for the Mackay Regional Council from a field of 16 other suppliers.
The inverter is the latest model from Growatt. There is an option to upgrade to Fronius and/or Jinko panels. Please contact me directly for a price.

    • Hi Scott - I clicked through (go to deal) and put in for a quote online through your site - is there an extra deal via ozbargain?

      • +1

Hi Doggmatic, that deal page page is not advertised, its only for Ozbargain members. If you have put your details in there, will be in touch ASAP. Scott

  • +1

why is there so much difference in pricing in QLD and VIC?

    • Different rebates mostly. Vic government have a separate rebate as well.

      • In Victoria it is $2,250 off the system + $2,250 interest free loan so literally you could get paid to buy this up front.

But in Victoria the best is probably $0 up front per Solargain advertised prices.

        • +1

Yeah Netjock…its an excellent deal unfortunately we dont get that here in QLD. We can still get a 'Green Loan' and we do have a bit more sunshine here which makes up for a bit.

          • @Scott-M: Scott, what/who do you recommend for green loans here in QLD? I thought the government schemes were finished?

Also, Morayfield is no issues for install etc.?

            Cheers.

            • +1

@bassmaniac69: Hi Bass, Green Loans through Rate%Setter are available. They are backed by the Federal Government’s Clean Energy Finance Corporation. Yes, Morayfield is no problem.

  • 6+ month waiting on install…why?

    • +4

Hi Bongo, sorry what do you mean? We have never had anyone waiting so long to be installed. Usually its done 1-4 weeks. Depends on circumstances.

Ahh ScoMo, we meet again! How's that lump of coal going?

SPP installed a 6.6 KW system at my parents place in Pimpama a couple of weeks ago.. whole process went smoothly and promptly.

Timeframe from placing the order (10% deposit) to being installed on the roof was 2 weeks.
System has been up and running for a week now (after Energex did their thing with the smart meter).

The Growatt app is great.. I can open it from anywhere and see what the system is generating at any given moment, plus graphs of the daily/monthly totals, and heaps of other data (string voltages etc).
Generating over 37 kWh on a good day (East facing array).

Scott kept in touch through the process, and has followed up after connection, to ensure all is well.
We were emailed photos showing the installed inverter, panels, the serial number/barcodes of every panel, meterbox, inverter serial no etc.

Overall, happy with the install, process, and price. And this deal is even sharper.

    WA needs deals like this

    • +1

Yes, if we could do WA, we would for sure!

    • +1

WA has some of the cheapest solar in the country already, and using better hardware than this one.

It is not hard to find a 6.6kW system in Perth for ~$3K.

Weather it is a wise decision to spend so little on solar is another question though!

      • Weather it is a wise decision

Weather is the reason to do this deal 😀

  • +2

Quick question. Can you do an upgrade to a Fronius inverter?

    • +2

Yes, you can if its on a single phase. The extra cost is $950 inc. GST

      • Seems a bit dear. Got Fronius 5kw + Suntech panels installled for $3,500 in Brissy.

        • link?

    • Yes for extra $$$

  • +4

What's the go for getting solar panels in NSW?

Just bought a house, but it doesn't have solar anything currently…

    • +2

Sorry duk242, we dont go there, but you should be able to find someone down that way that will help you. One of the other NSW members here might know of a company?

    • You'd think that, but the government rebates are nowhere near what you're seeing here or in Victoria etc. It's infuriating.

Also a bummer when you only want/can fit 2.5kw worth of system on the roof. My local installer quoted $6k for that. Make you cry.

    • There was a deal recently. Follow up discuss here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/485249

  • How does one know if this pack is sufficient? Is there a rough calculator?

    • +1

      Try googling exactly that.
There's a site called solarcalculator that will give you a decent idea for a start.

Basically, how many units are you consuming per day and how many of those are during sunlight hours etc, then cater the solar system accordingly.

Then some minor tweaks to when you run your household appliances could see a slightly increased saving as well.

      • Okay thanks

    • Hi b00gie, there's a lot of factors to consider, a rough idea might be too rough and be misleading. There are plenty of online 'solar calculators' which can give an idea. If you want me to have a look at your situation get in touch through the contact page.

  • Hi, how much is the price difference for ozbargainers with 3 phase power installed?
Is it the same price installed on a patio? (note-over built with LVL structural beams etc, no issue with weight can build another level on it)
In regards to the 3 phase invertor model supplied would it be the new model 'Growatt 3000-6000TL3-S 3-Phase' ?
    Thanks.

    • Hi BilboB, if you have a 3 phase connection - we have priced that on the deal page at $650 inc. GST and yes, that would be for the Growatt 5000TL3-S 3-Phase. Would need to get a bit more info about the job so it could be quoted properly though. If you want me to do that please get in touch HERE.

Crazy how cheap solar has gotten!

  • What would be the best way for a Tennant to go about a deal like this, the Landlord is sympathetic/supportive.

    • +2

Ask the landlord and make a deal , maybe you pay $10 more per week . You will be surprised a lot of rentals do have solar installed now. It can help to get tenants into the property too.

    • Ask them? It's their house, if you're happy to pay for the panels and they give you permission then go for it.

      • +3

You should never pay to get solar installed as a tenant. The landlord could refuse to renew the lease and you would be out of pocket.

        • Of course, but not all rental setups are your typical faceless tenant through a real estate kinda gig. I've had plenty of mates in long term rentals do improvements out of their own pocket with both parties happy.

          • @Hinee: Yep, not a typical set up here, the most likely setup is I'll do the legwork, the landlord will pay and we will give them a decent percentage of the savings to pay it off for them but still get some cheaper power.

    • My advice (as a landlord) would be to talk to the landlord directly about it work out some sort of deal. The landlord would need to ultimately approve it.

  • +1

Is that price applicable in Bli Bli? It says it is extra at 100km from Brisbane CBD. Are you measuring from 'Brisbane', because if so we are 111km =/

    • Hi Shane PM me with your address. Cheers

  • +1

    PM sent. Cheers.
Also sent an inquiry through your website.

  • +3

I just got a quotation today from origin energy for a 4.5kw job in Eastwood Sydney. The price is $4,600. I wish I could find a good installer like you guys in Sydney. Are you going to set up a Sydney operation at all?

    • +1

Sorry teapot, we are only in Brisbane. Perhaps other NSW members would know of a company down there that can help?

  • +1

Hi Scott - Just submitted a quote form for Cannon Hill in Qld, but forgot to add into the comment I'd like to know the difference in price for both Fronious and the Jinko panels. (I won't clog your inbox with a second quote form)

My electricity bill is currently fairly reasonable - about $400 a quarter - 2 adults 2 kids (under 4), but we just got a few more air cons installed for summer so I expect that will go through the roof once the warm weather properly arrives :)

    • Thanks Ham, yes, have just found your inquiry. I will have to check your roof but based on what you have said; the system advertised will have a big affect on your bill. Yes the old inbox is pretty chocka block at the moment but dont worry will be in touch. Cheers

  • I have an very old 3kw solar system(cheap branded chinese one) on the current roof but will have new colourbond roof replaced next week. should I just put the old solar one back to the new roof? and add more panels? upgrade inverter? or.. just get a whole new system?… so confusing. please advise me..

    • Yes Muramura it could be better to get a whole new system.

      • +2

sure. just one more thing please. I have never heard growatt inverter before. some tells me I should avoid any chinese product (I am actually fine with them though) what do you reckon about the inverter?

      • Hi Muramura, if you would like more information I can provide that directly. Your situation needs to be assessed. Please get in touch through the contact page HERE if you would like to do that. Scott

    • +1

Legally it is unlikely that you could add new panels or just upgrade the inverter. I am not even sure if you will legally be able to place the existing system on a new roof. There are new standards and rules (which are excessive in many cases).

  • +1

Hi do you install solar panels on decramastic roof? Do you need to check the site first before installing? My neighbours have big houses.

    • Hi Evalord, yes, decramastic definitely needs to be checked out first. There is an additional charge depending on the size of the job. we can quote it for you if would like? If you would be kind enough to send me your details through the contact page HERE

  • +3

"Warranties are locally supported by AKCOME and Growatt." Your company is still responsible for the manufacturer and statutory warranties that would apply to the systems you sell. If either of these manufacturers withdrew from Australia or went out of business, the seller then has to provide the warranty.

    • +3

Yes, this is in addition to our own obligations and responsibilities.

  • +4

Any feedback on what makes a good inverter?

How does Growatt compare to the more expensive variants? If a growatt and fronius are both warrantied for 10 years, why would you pick the more expensive one?

    • +5

I can tell you about my dad's experience, about one aspect of what makes a good inverter.

He got a Chinese branded inverter (I think it was Sungrow) and while there was no apparent issue with it, turns out it emitted this very high pitched noise. Let me clarify.

The noise did not emanate from the inverter itself but from any appliance that was powered on while the inverter was functioning. If the inverter was shut off or the sun was down the noise went away. Happened with the TV, microwave, and other appliances but it seemed the heavier the draw the more prominent the buzzing.

The buzzing was so high pitched my parents couldn't actually hear it, but it was headache inducing for those of us with intact hearing.

We ended up using an app that demonstrated the frequencies being emitted and sure enough there was a huge spike in the high frequency range.

Next we were told that the inverter was in spec. We looked at the Australian standards in question and sure enough, the standards only considered up to a certain frequency - certainly well below the hearing range of most younger people, which is a massive oversight and says something about who put together these standards.

Anyway, I believe they even replaced our Sungrow with another one and it still made the same noise, so my dad paid for a Fronius upgrade. No issues at all since.

I wouldn't be able to tell you how the Growatt compares but the Fronius seems to pass the basic test of not generating noisy electricity (don't know if there's any other associated ramifications for the appliances).

That sound would drive me nuts. Thanks for sharing that!

    Hi Scott,

Are you a CEC approved retailer?

Do you use subcontractors or do you have your own installers?

Who hold the warranty for workmanship?

    Thanks

    • +2

      Hi Scott,

Yeah don't worry about replying I've done my own research

Are you a CEC approved retailer?

No - not a Clean Energy Council Approved Solar Retailer

Do you use subcontractors or do you have your own installers?

Must use Sub-contractors, No Electrical Contractors License No. listed on the website

Who hold the warranty for workmanship?

My guess it would be whichever sub-contractor you use to do the installs.

      Thanks

      • +3

Sorry deadband for the delay as in any case, your question deserves a reply.

No, we are not in the 'union'- not yet anyway, but that may change if we are forced to (it is not compulsory in QLD at this stage).

We see it as the dead hand of bureaucracy and red tape that we would endure while being slugged for the privilege. Once everyone is in the 'club', just watch prices rise.

Yes, we definitely do have CEC qualified and well-paid contractors to carry out all our work to a high standard, and our existing customers will totally attest to this.

As retailers, we don’t need to hold or display an electrical license.

We are subject to and operate under the same consumer law and fair trading requirements as any other business. We carry no unsavoury history of kind, and don’t expect that to change.

    Hi Scott,

Do you do installations in Redbank Plains? Also, do you sell 10kW systems? Is there a large cost for removing existing installations? Looking to replace my old 1.8kW system (8 panels).

    Thanks mate

  • Hi Rodgort, Yes, we do Redbank Plains, 10kW systems and it doesn't cost much to take down an old system. If you would be kind enough to send me your details through the contact page HERE I will get in touch ASAP. Scott

    Hi Scott-M

Just wondering if this price stands if you have an existing 6.6kw system with 5kw inverter, connected to 3phase power?

Looking to add to my existing setup for a song…

    Cheers

    • Hi Thejudge, in a situation like yours it would need to be checked properly to see what the actual options are. This deal has expired but there are other options that could be offered. If you get in touch via the contact page I could do that for you. Scott

  • +1

Can a battery to be added to these in the future?

    • Hi Tm15, yes, this system is 'battery capable'.

      • Thanks, have sent through a request

  • Hi Scott-M

Also have a question regarding already having existing panels. Have a 1.5kw system built 5 years ago. Could this add on to that said system for roughly the same price as above? My solar system is throwing up errors during the day, but still achieve 200kw excess production quarterly?

    • Hi cowiie, this would need to be investigated, but from what you are saying it doesn't sound good for the existing system mid to long term if it is behaving in that way. Sight unseen, I would say it could be best to start fresh…

  • How much to dismantle an old 5kw system and replace it with yours. Also on a two storey. No tilt please. Skillon roof. Gold Coast South?

  • Hi Korban, I would need more detail to help with a costing. Please get touch through the contact page and I will have a look at that for you.

  • I've been waiting for a reply since 30 October.

    • A reply on OzBargain, or via the SPP website?

    • Yes me too, I am not waiting anymore will find another solar company

  • Booked in for install in January for this system.

Scott has been very helpful thus far

    • Did you go with akcome panels or?
