Should have included the fine print….
Customers who purchase a Qantas Car Insurance policy between 29/10/19 and 20/12/19 will earn up to 20,000 sign on Qantas Points. 20,000 is the maximum number of sign on Qantas Points that can be earned on annual premiums $2,000 or over. Each Qantas Car Insurance policy has a maximum number of points that can be earned upon purchase, which can be found here. Points will only be awarded to the primary policyholder after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days. The number of points awarded will be based on the premium of the policy at the expiry of the 60-day period. Sign on Qantas Points are not available for any insurance policy purchased for a vehicle that has been insured by the primary policyholder through Qantas Car Insurance at any time in the 6 months prior to policy purchase date. Qantas reserves the right to withdraw or extend this offer at any time.

Note points breakdown: sign on bonus (e.g 2k to 5k) plus premium (e.g. 200 to 500) plus qantas app Points (I.e regular steps challenges, sleeping challenges and car maintenance challenges).

Also note the comprehensive quote appears to be market value, not agreed value. Inclusions include towing, hire vehicle and travel costs etc that you can't opt out.

How much is 26K points worth, and how much extra does Qantas insurance cost compared to the best value ones?

    • +13

You can do your own research on both.

18,000 points will get you a $100 JB HiFi Gift card.
I am getting 14,000 points - but my policy is coming out to be 300$ more - so not for me.

            Exactly…

    • +1

      Depends

        So no real bargain then…

        • 😂

    • Different insurers perceive risks differently and offer different products, so you’ll need to do your own research there JV

I did a comparison last night and Qantas was good but not the best. Mine would've cost $807 (receiving about 7,000 points) through Qantas but $721 through Bingle. Plus the excess with Bingle was slightly less. From memory, there were 2 or 3 others that worked out cheaper than Qantas as well. So i guess it comes down to how you value the points

  • Would be helpful to have a link to the site, not just a screenshot.

  • My quote is very identical to RACV that i have been with over 4 years , not sure if i should make a switch?

My quote is very identical to RACV

So you're probably paying about twice what you should…

      • +3

It depends on individual's situation. RACV turned out to be the cheapest for my car after comparing it with other companies.

          • +2

@jv: Well, you don't know how much research I have done.

  • +3

Qantas insurance is a white label Auto and General product, ie Budget Direct.

The best comparison is to a Budget Direct policy. If they are similar prices but you get extra QFF points, could be a good deal

  • +2

    6362 points for a $762 policy

    • Is it good in your opinion?

      • The price is, but I haven't read the PDS or know what the claims process is like

        • Thanks, will try get a price.

  • Iirc im getting 9k++ pts for a $1.3k~ policy. Too bad it costs more when opting to pay monthly.

  • +1

About 30% more expensive for me than my current policy, even after considering points. Same thing happened with medical insurance. Not really price competitive.

  • +3

Ended up costing 200 dollars more for this policy over RACV. Getting points for buying into an upstart over the normal cost of a premium insurer whilst paying that much extra is just unbelivable.

These guys are acting as a premium insurer without any sort of track record. Hope whomever get this policy has a better experience come claim time than what AAMI, YOUI and Budget can provide. For me, its only Alianz and RACV that I'll use if I'm paying top dollar.

  • +1

Got the quote and like fuzor its too expensive $200 plus more than I am currently paying with higher excess and no mention of the actual amount the vehicle is covered for…

  • +1

~$600 more expensive than RACV for me

  • I got a pretty good premium ($530) on a 2010 Falcon.

    • I'm with allianz paying around 32 pm for a 2011 FG with 10k agreed value full comprehensive. Mind you I am on full no claim bonus over 50 with no drivers under 25 no hire car windscreen extra either Just did a online allianz quote for next year dropped agreed value to 9k came to 33 per mth give them a look

      • +1

Thanks for the heads-up; got $490 with Allianz.

      • You pay per month ?? You can save 11% if you pay annually !

        • +1

yes but as a pensioner not on the average 200k here at ozB yes I have to pay monthly or starve or be homeless (renting)

  • not a bad price, but only qualified for 6136 points,

not worth breaking the current policy which will charge $40.

  • Mine was $417 vs $289 as it is presently. I'll stick with my current insurer

  • Its not very clear if its a limited KMs policy. It asks how many KMs you do but it doesn't say anywhere that you are only covered within the selected number of KMs. The quote does go up if you select higher KMs so you would think it limited but its just not clear. If its not limited then select 5000km to get the cheapest quote.

  • What is there method in determining how many KM are actually driven? From 8,000km to 15,000km is an extra 50% in price? $900 to $1400….

  • Don't add in your QFF details when looking up a quote - o/wise prepare to get spammed, as I found out :/
