SUNBEAM CAFE SERIES EM0480 Coffee Grinder $87 + Postage @ The Appliance Warehouse

300

Generally regarded as the best grinder to purchase under $200, this is easily the best deal I've ever seen. You can't get a decent second hand one close to this. You may find one at a their factory outlets close in price occasionally, but I thought the delivery costs were reasonable as they seem to be between $9 - $16 depending on location.

A decent grinder is often an overlooked essential component in getting good coffee at home, even if you use a plunger!

    Super price!
This is the All Metal version, not the cheaper plasticy version EM450.
If you have a coffee machine at home, you need a decent grinder and this is the cheapest model that is recommended to buy by coffee-snobs!

A grinder, it could be argued, is the most important bit!

  • I have one of these and it is brilliant.

Yes - so overlooked - a good grinder essential for great coffee. Just as important as a good machine and a knowledge of how to make coffee.

This is the best $100ish you could spend to get great coffee. Bargain.

  • I bought the cheap EM430 only a month ago for about $60 :(. I can't really tell the difference between the coffee I make at home and the stuff I get from cafes though. I guess this is a blessing and a curse.

  • Does it goes well with this in combination? http://www.theappliancewarehouse.com.au/p-1832-sunbeam-cafe-…

I have a all in one coffee machine at home that grinds and steams the milk but could not get the frothy and creamy sensation that I get from a coffee shop, any tips?

    • Of course it would! If you were spending that much I would also look at the Rancilio Silvia and Gaggia Classic. If your current machine is fully automatic and steams the milk by itself it's never going to be that great - often it's awful.

      • Thanks, I have paid like $1000 for the all in one machine, it was my first, and it was a mistake.
The Rancilio Silvia looks neat, what are the pro of this recommended machine and should I get this grinder over the Rocky grinder that came with the Rancilio as a package?

        • No, the Rocky is a much better grinder.

Looks like the rocky isn't a lot better.

        • From my what I've read in the past, the rocky is considered to be somewhat better than the sunbeam. How much better is definitely debatable.

But I would say one thing, if you 're going to spend so much on a machine, you would be best advised to not skimp on the grinder as that will make a big difference to your coffee quality. I'd suggest at this level of machine, consider the breville smart grinder for around $250 which will definitely run rings around this sunbeam grinder.

Sometimes it gets bundled with this model for free.
Maybe that's why they have it at a cheap price.

      • It's true. I bought a em6910 when it came with a free em0480 around 2 years ago, and the special has popped up a few times since. Both great machines serving me well so far.

    • I have the EM6910 and it's pretty nice.. tossed up whether to spend extra for a Silvia, but Gaggia Classics have Aluminium boilers so they were immediately eliminated from the list of possibles. (should be illegal to make a pressurised machine out of such an easily corroded material as Aluminium, especially when other components are of dissimilar metals!)
The big advantage of the 6910 is that it's very quick to startup, don't have to wait to boil the boiler.
The problem is, no-one really knows how long the Thermoblocks will last! (because these have a SS lining, they should last significantly longer than the Thermoblocks in other machines, but how much longer?)

    • I have both this grinder and that model coffee machine - they make excellent coffee love together :)

  • If I didn't already have one (same model) I'd be buying this.

  • Thanks! This is something that I've had my eye on for a long, long, long while now… at long last a good deal has popped up on ozbargain (of course, where else?!)

  • Far out this is cheap

  • Good grinder, using one in combo with an EM6910 and it does a great job.

  • Sold out.

    • Darn. Is there anywhere for a price match? Most price matchers don't do online and/or out of stock.

Guess you could now go to a store and haggle for a similar price knowing either they are clearing stock for a new version or that must be either cost or close to cost price.

  • Thanks. Great price. Just ordered one.

  • Just ordered one and linked to a friend, now out of stock.

  • man that's a good price… top grinder wish I had seen this sooner.

  • wow sold out in under 2 hours :(

Glad I ordered one for my sister before I posted it here :-) !!!

  • Damn… Ozbargained. Then again, I don't do too bad grinding up 2-3 days worth at a time with my $30 Brevile. LUUUUUURVE that smell!

    • that's the biggest no-no!
Should be grinding coffee for use immediately after grinding and no more.

      • Naturally that would be better… but surely what I'm doing is far better than buying beans already ground! That would be a bigger no-no. The biggest no-no would be instant! :)

        • I'll take a decent instant (e.g. the old Blend 43) over stale ground coffee any day.

The biggest no-no is an office 1kg tin of Pablo that was opened 2 months ago, and frequently left open.
