Affordable Wireless Internet Package

I'm thinking about downsizing from 200GB $60 Optus package (speed not limited and my contract ends next billing cycle, got from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/404664).

I am thinking about getting 5GB $15 (speed limited at 1.5Mbps after 5GB, unlimited data then https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/480652) Telstra package to save some bucks while getting more data.

Is there any other good packages than this ?
Can you tell me more about the actual experience if you are using such speed limited package?
Is there anything you miss about high speed internet?

(NBN not available and ADSL not preferred as there is no phone line)

Typical usage:

  1. Typical web browsing + Email client
  2. Youtube/Neflix at SD
  3. Some online courses (Udemy etc.)
  4. Rarely XBOX updates/PC game downloads (if I download few games, current $200GB will be finished quickly)
  5. Occasional remote desktop work

    You are going to have a really crappy time doing any of that stuff at 1.5mbps

    Remove these last two from your wants list and you should be fine.

    5) Occasional remote desktop work

    It will crawl unless you have some method to optimise the remote desktop e.g. 8 or 64 bit color mode. If you are using windows RDP, you will have a nightmare with it disconnecting every few mins. There might be some other pre-optimised solution like teamviewer but I cannot comment on whether that would work on 1.5mbps.

    4 might be able to be done overnight.

        May as well ask someone to take a picture of each frame of a Netflix show and record the soundtrack on cassette tape, and send it to you via auspost to use as a flickbook, rather than try to stream or do anything at 1.5mbps

    I use Spintel wireless at home (after being kicked from Vivid) - mostly to watch Netflix, speed is fine.

    At last I found a more affordable package with a better value (100GB for $25.6 per month after cashback). :)
