Which ones are cheaper that you don't need this starter kit for? Interested
Kmart, etc work directly with router and yeah u can dim them
as each light or any other direct wifi connection, connects directly to your wifi you run the risk of maxing out your setup, when using something with a hub, i.e. Philips Hue, the hub connects upto 50 connections on a single wifi connection.
Considering that the Kmart, Coles, Woolies Genio lights are $20 white to $30 colour, this Philips kit is excellent value.
Your incorrect there they still require a hub and that is the tuya server in china
Aldi special buys this coming Wednesday
Not sure how the alternatives work and maybe they can do the same thing but I like the dimmer switch that is included in this kit. I use that most of the time to turn the light on/off and adjust the brightness/mode. I only use the voice control/app if I'm too lazy to get up or I'm in another room.
This doesn't include the dimmer switch.
Can anyone find a dimmer switch cheaper than $30?
My mistake! I confused this with the kit I got from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/479876.
Better quality, i used the cheap ones and they did not last.
The Philips bulbs dim lower if that's impermanence
The cheap ones use wifi. Most consumer grade routers can handle a limited number of devices at a time and the strong wifi signals of all of the devices interfere with each other. The Hue and Xiaomi hubs use zigbee, which operates as a mesh. This means that devices don't need to 'yell' as loudly, reducing interference, reduce congestion as unnecessary traffic just passes from the hub to the device instead of bottlenecking at the router and each hub only needs one IP address instead of a unique IP for every device. On the other hand, wifi devices are usually cheaper.
Most of the other smart devices will use your wifi network for connectivity, so range and connection quality will be dependant on your router.
The hue bridge uses the Zigbee wireless standard which was designed for communicating with IoT devices (like smart lights) so it can be much more reliable, especially once your dealing with 10+ devices.
Depending on if you want the Xenese Gamen to know what time you wake up and sleep.
Not saying Phillips is immune, but I would like to think it fares better.
The most imp thing in LED lights is NOT the LED light or the electronics, but the heat dissipation.
Its the easiest element to skimp on.
I would rather pay more to (presumably) know you are getting a better product for permanent fitting in your homes.
I can confirm the Hue system works incredibly well, including their remote dimmers. Been using for a year, and not skipped a beat.
These work with homekit and don't require cloud to work
If internet is down you ha e no control over those cheap ones in tuya state
It doesn't say, but I'm guessing it comes with two globes?
Anyway, I think it's worth noting that these are 9.5 Watt bulbs, so may be a little bit too dark in large spaces.
I prefer the Philips 13 Watt light bulbs (warm colour/temperature) because, in my view, they are the closest in colour and brightness to the 100 Watt incandescent light bulbs that I liked.
Then again, if you prefer a light bulb that won't burn your retinas out, these might be better ;)
Ps. I just noticed that you can change the colour/temperature/hue of these light bulbs so, I think, colour is irrelevant when comparing to older bulbs, but brightness is still relevant.
You can't change the colour temp of these bulbs. You need the ambience bulbs for that.
Oh ok, fair enough.
Anyway, you can change the hue of these bulbs, but to a limited degree.
If you look at the photo captioned "Play with 50,000 hues of white light" you'll see that the colour range is from a very light blue to a very light orange.
Are you sure? That's the ambience bulbs. Or I'm mistaken :)
What's the link to the photo you mention? Maybe they have a v2.
@tonydav: I tried to get the photo link, but it's a java script object or something, I couldn't copy the address.
But if you go to the deal from this page, it should be in the first one pr two photos that you can scroll through left and right.
Actually, just saw what you mean.
That's strange. I wouldn't be surprised if Bunnings have the wrong pic for those lights.
Worth checking what it says on the Amazon link.
@tonydav: Yep, Bunnings might have mixed photos up, or Philips (or Bunnings for that matter) may be using 'creative' language to mislead customers.
I mean 50,000 hues of white light? Lol.
Then again, pure white light consists of all colours, so … who knows
This is still $49.90 on Amazon AU with free delivery.

Does it come with bayonet? I need the B22 not E27. :(
Would these work?

Nah… That will just extend the length of the blubs unless there is no cover for your lightnings…..:(
This is a good starter kit. But keep in mind if you like cooler style white lights then you won't be happy with it as they're a very warm white.
I use these in bedrooms, the next model up (which allows colour temperature control) for kitchen/dining/office etc.
You can buy this and use the much cheaper Ikea lights, which is what I'm considering…

Even if one doesn't like the warm white (2700K) / e27 based bulbs, this price is cheapest way to get a Hue Hub, or am I missing something?
Serious question, why bother with these when you can get the cheap smart bulbs that work with Alexa/GA and don’t need the hub?
