Wolfgang Uber Rinseless Wash is an alternative to the benchmark of rinseless products ONR (Optimum No Rinse). Wolfgang (WG) is an Autogeek brand, America's largest car detailing store. Wax It is the Australian distributor for Wolfgang but have never sold this product.

WG is a high quality rinseless concentrate product which I find to be slicker and glossier than both ONR and their wash and wax version ONRWW. This additional slickness makes it easier and safer to use.

NB. ONR used to be but is not longer marketed at a waterless wash dilution. They created Opti-Clean for that but it is far too expensive for me to use.

For comparisons sake I will also use over counter product Turtle Wax Rinse Free Wash & Wax for rinseless and Meguiars Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax

Price has dropped from $32.52 to $28.61. Calcs below were on the higher price point

Rinseless Dilution
ONR - 256:1 - 946ml @28.95 = $1.19/10L rinseless bucket
ONRWW - 256:1 - 946ml @36.95 = $1.51/10L rinseless bucket
WG - 384:1 - 473ml @32.52 = $1.78/10 rinseless bucket
TW - 64:1 - 1L @ $17.49 = $2.73 /10 rinseless bucket

Waterless Diltion
ONR - 16:1 _16L @ $1.81/L
ONRWW - 16:1 _16L @ $2.31/L
WG - 48:1 = 23L @ $1.41/L
Megs - no dilution = $48.16L (768ml bottle $36.99)

So this 473ml bottle will make over 16L of some of slickest waterless washes money can buy.

WG can be used as a rinsless wash, waterless wash, paint quick detailer, clay lube, drying aid, window cleaner, interior quick detailer, tv/screens and so much more

If you use a crazy amount of rinsless wash look at Ultima $138.16 will make you over 185L. I've paid $180+ to have gallons of WG and Ultima delivered before. Ultima is an incredible waterless wash but as a rinse less wash WG performs better. The smaller 473ml Ultima bottle is $39.68 but I would recommend WG due to its cheaper price, same dilution and better rinseless wash ability.

I think I just had an aneurysm trying to read all those initialisms.

At first glance i thought this was 2 stroke oil

  • Ja ja!

Would this be a good product to use to remove bird crap when out and about and washing the car isn't practical? i.e. keep a pre-diluted bottle in the boot.

    • no fragrance baby wipes.. useful to keep a pack in the car as hand wipes and plenty of other situations

      • I've tried this but every brand leaves a residue.

        • Water wipes

    • +1

Yes. Best to remove bird dropping ASAP as they cause permanent damage. This makes it safer removal method when you don't have access to a hose. The polymers will also add back some much needed protection

      • Thanks. Car is black, a bird even farts near it and the paint is damaged. I've recently had it corrected and coated but still need to keep the paint in check

  • +1

Bought recently as a clay lube. Way cheaper than Meguiars Final Inspection in the long run.

    These spray bottles seem reasonable

  • at first i thought it was a super epoxy, so how do you use this? still use bucket and hose?

    • Bucket if rinseless or spray bottle if waterless. No hose required. Check out Optimum No Rinse videos on YouTube. That will show the rinseless method

      • why its showing $28.61 for me?

        • The price has dropped since I listed it. Well that put a spanner in my $/L calcs/

          • +1

@4agte: so how many L do you need to wash an average car? if 473ml bottle can make 16L?

            • @UncleCheapSteam: There are variables but I would use between 200-250ml of ready to use (RTU) waterless wash. Also you are getting approx 23L. That's over 90 washes

  • I don't understand how this works. If you don't hose down the car, aren't you just rubbing the existing dirt on the car and into the paint?

    • thats what i thought, i don't understand

Here is an blog I wrote some time ago. I hope it helps

Why is a Rinseless Wash (RW) safer than a traditional Two Bucket Wash (2BW)?

The 2BW has been the traditional go to process for home and professional detailers alike but with the advent of polymer and micro-encapsulating technology we have seen a large shift towards both Rinseless and Waterless Washes (WW) over the last 10 years. The popularity of ceramic coatings has further pushed these RW/WW products into the consumer market.

Now before I take on the envious task of trying to convince you why a RW is much safer than a 2BW method (I can hear the grunts and groans of disapproval already), it is important I help you understand how a traditional car shampoo chemistry works and what their limitations are.

Traditional shampoos contain a blend of surfactants which are designed to emulsify oils into water. We rely on the solvent, which is water, to break the surface tension between dirt and paint to assist with dirt removal. The lubricity of water is pretty poor. Therefore we rely on a lot of water to break the surface tension and use quality microfibre mitts and towels to safely remove the dirt.

The formulations of these car soaps are designed in such a way need to use a lot of solvent (water). We flood the surface and break surface tension, to aid with cleaning. Water is an awesome cleaner but its lubricity characteristics are pretty poor and therefore we need a lot of it to safely wash our sensitive clearcoat.

People love suds in their buckets as they incorrectly correlate foam to both lubricity and cleaning ability. However, year 10 science taught me that foam is a by-product of soap and air. It has nothing to do with the ability to clean. It doesn’t help that manufactures add foaming agents to further push these misconceptions. Suds are wasted product.

You can test this out yourself. Fill two kitchen sinks, add the same amount of detergent to each sink, foam sink #1 up with fast running water and with sink #2 run the tap slowly to keep suds to a minimum. I can guarantee you will have much more success washing in sink #2 and be adding more detergent to sink #1 to achieve the same results.

Detailing manufactures want to sell you their products, so don’t think they won’t lie to you or trick you to obtain your hard earned cash. I’m looking at you Chemical Guys. They have some good products but BS marketing is in ample supply.

So how does a RW differ?

I want to keep pretty general here as the surfactants, detergents and cleaning agents come in a variety of forms that act in different ways on different types of dirt and grime. So I’ll stick to the similarities but it is those differences which set the global leaders of RR/WW products apart

Most, if not all with the exception of Optimum No Rinse (ONR), have substantive and reactive polymers which are positively charged. They the ability to bond to surfaces, dirt and oils. The synthetic formula softens and conditions water. This assists the incredible amount of lubricity. The polymers form a film around dirt/grime (known as encapsulation). This allows the negatively-charged microfibre to glide over a surface instead of grinding into the paint surface, resulting in a more effective and safer wash than the 2BW method. Unlike shampoos RW/WW products do not contain foam agents as the ultra-concentrated polymers will just react with the agents and turn them to gel.

Due to its popularity, particularly in Australia I will quickly touch on ONR and how its polymers work a little differently. The polymers in ONR are zwitterionic in nature. Zwitterionic is a German word that means on they are both positively and negatively charged. On an ionic level this means they bond to both anionic and cationic particles and on an ionic level they repell everything.

Okay as I said I don’t want to go too deep on the science. It becomes very difficult to understand and the formulations of these RW are kept a very well-guarded secret. I have also written much more than I intended and before I lose my audience I’ll move to dot points to close my argument.
      - As previously raised soaps do provide lubrication but the safety margin it creates on the paint is lost when we rinse with our solvent (water)
      - The removal of our soaps create a high surface tension. We dry the paint under this high surface tension by creating a downwards pressure with our drying media. This greatly increases the risk of marring
      - However, we know the polymers in RW are very high in lubricity, they aren’t rinsed off and remain present during the whole wash process
      - The polymers also remain after the wash process. They are hydrophobic in nature. Traffic film is the biggest reason our cars get dirty and usually occurs when the roads are wet. If we can repel this grime our cars stay cleaner for longer
      - Staying cleaner for longer means there is less dirt, grime and oil sitting on our paint. This reduces the bonding of this crap to our clearcoat. Once bonded we need to clay to remove it which causes marring. To get rid of the marring we need to correct with a polish. We can reduce this greatly by taking advantage of today’s polymer technology
      - Suds hide where we are wiping. With a RR we can always see what we are working with and stop immediately as risks are identified.
      - We are constantly interacting with paint. Seeing and working the dirty areas. No more half moons where we have missed spots.

A quick couple of tips to make RW/WW even safer:
      - We still wash our vehicles from top to bottom. Cleanest to dirtiest.
      - We apply the towel to the paint, we don’t scrub. The weight of the towel/mitt is the only pressure we need. The towel/mitt provides the agitation, not you.
      - When we wipe the panel we only make one pass. Don’t go back and forth as you will just re-drag all that cleaned surface and risk marring. We can always come back with aclean mitt or towel afterwards
      - If you think the car is too dirty for a RW there is no reason you can’t pre-rinse it beforehand
      - Mix your rinseless concentrate to a waterless concentration and use it to pre-soak on the panels
      - Use your favourite wax/sealant or WW as a drying aid. It will not only make drying faster but add further protection to the paint
      - Any MOST IMPORTANT if you think you are scratching you car, then you probably are. Re-evaluate what you are doing and make appropriate changes.

Your last point was I might be scratching my car. I thought you said RW are safer. Please explain?

Again marketing creeping its ugly head. All clearcoats, particularly unprotected ones are scratch-sensitive. It doesn’t matter how we wash a vehicle there is always a risk of inflicting scratches. Scratches and marring are induced by friction and the most common type of friction is during the wash and dry process. To reduce this use your common sense, high quality products and proper technique.

      • If suds are bad, then are those foam cannons rubbish?

        • Foam Cannon is the pre-rinse. Then you wash using two bucket method.

Excellent writeup OP. Thanks for posting!

    • the purpose of a waterless wash is for those who dont have water acccess outside i.e. apartment complex or mobile detailers.
products such as this provide lubrication allowing the dirt to be picked up while minimising scratches/swirl marks.

      • So no benefit of I already have access to a house and pressure washer?

        • I have providing a detailed explanation above why rinseless can be considered safer than traditional 2 bucket wash. You definitely don't need a rinseless or waterless wash but you may seen some benefits in its other uses

            @4agte: Thanks.

Ordered a bottle to give it a try.
Sometimes I'm too lazy to pull out the hose and bucket to wash the cars. A wipe down might be nice.

  • Great deal, was just looking at trying Megs Ultimate Waterless wash from SCA next sale but this is much better $/ml wise.

Somehow was also free delivery with Prime due to some limited time offer, even though it was below usual $39 threshold. YMMV.

  • Bought it a few weeks ago. Arrived within a week of ordering. Yet to try it out though.

  • Ordered, was looking at this months ago, still got more than 1/2 a bottle of ONR left, but will give this a go too!

  • So my order was meant to arrive today but never turned up.

I contacted Amazon and they said it was damaged in transit and they weren't able to offer a replacement only a refund.
A bit disappointing given I waited nearly 2 weeks for nothing.

Did anyone else have the same issue?

    • No not yet - but seems they use fastway couriers for international orders, so won't be surprised if mine doesn't show up either.

They're bloody useless.. Took 18 days for parcel from Melbourne to Perth.. Took 10 days from Perth depot to my house.

      • My tracking showed nothing after the initial scan. Apparently that meant it was damaged and I was meant to knows that….

Check your tracking to see if it's showing similar.

        • Mine is showing it scanned in Melb on the 31/10 and my ETA for delivery is 19/11…

19 days from Melb to Perth - Fastway, you've done it again

          • +1

@The Hobo: Aaaand just got a notification saying its on board for delivery today!

            • +1

@The Hobo: Oddly 1 month later Fastway delivered it even though it was reportedly damaged during shipping….

So now I have 2 bottles of this unicorn blood. Amazing stuff

              • @edrift: Yup, I got a refund on some batteries (only 9 bucks worth) as apparently fastway lost them.

Then a week and a half later, they showed up. I had been lazy and hadn't reordered, so worked out well

  • Arrived - all good, no issues. Won't be able to try it for a few weeks though

    • Nice. I just ordered it again given there is a $5 shop back deal on for Amazon.

My rinseless wash arrived yesterday so I made up a batch of spray and bucket of wash to try.
I washed my 2 cars and motorbike and was actually very impressed. The cars were quite dirty, one is parked outdoors and was filthy.

Surprisingly they came out very clean and the paint felt smooth and looked shiny.

I expected the liquid mix to be slippery but it wasn't really, though it managed to clean and wax the cars nicely.

I didn't have high hopes for this as I had previously tried doing a rinseless wash with ordinary wash and wax car shampoo and it turned out crap.

For the price of roughly 2 bottles of detailing spray this was well worth it!
