Received 2 SSDs in The Mail from Amazon I Didn't Order

Just got home to find two packages from Amazon. One was expected, the other totally random. Opened it up and found 2 x 500GB SSDs in it. Never ordered them but they are addressed directly to me, even including my phone number next to the address on the AusPost Express Post sticker… I just checked my order history to make sure nothing was accidentally purchased and it's definitely not in there either.

Has anyone had this happen before? Reading other posts apparently I can either keep them or return. I'm guessing it somehow got added to the order with the other item I ordered, but they did come in seperate packages with seperate tracking numbers.

The rare double consecutive whoosh. 10pts for synchronicity, 10pts for difficulty, 8pts for execution.

I think he/she was suggesting that you keep them, and if anyone from Amazon contacts you to inquire as their whereabouts, to then deny every having received them

          • @slow: oh…….well I guess I dumb….

Reading other posts apparently I can either keep them or return.

Well, the morally right thing to do would be to contact Amazon support and follow what they say.

The legal thing to do is wait 3 months (without opening them?). If Amazon doesn't ask for them back in that period, they're yours to keep.

And Amazon can't legally try to charge you for them. The most they can do is request you send them back (at their expense) within 3 months. Though I suppose there's nothing legally stopping them from closing your account, I highly doubt that would happen.

    • Do this.

      Worst that happens is nothing

Best that happens is you get free SSDs

  • I've had a couple of things turn up in similar fashion over the years. I've always contacted Amazon because I'm just that kind of guy. Once they've arranged a courier to pick up the item, but two or three other times they've just said to keep the items in question.

Haha. I have no need for these. Guess I’ll contact amazon and see what they say.

      • Sell on Gumtree via PayPal. Make some money.

  • Nice problem to have and I wouldn't mind Amazon snow me under with freebies.

You sure you didn't drunk order from a fresh throwaway account with a temp email to take advantage of another Amazon Prime trial for free delivery?

Surely I'm not the only one to do this.

  • You got 2 free SSDs, I ordered 2 MX500s on Monday, were supposed to be delivered today buy they won't be here now until Wednesday next week - for Metro Adelaide.

Amazon are hopeless, a complete joke.

  • Just contact amazon, if they let you keep it, good on you
Otherwise, you would have committed criminal offence of theft
It is similar to a bank accidentally transferred a sum of cash to your account and you spent it without contacting the bank
If the SSDs are sent to you under your name and address, Amazon should have a record of that.

Don't get yourself into trouble :)
