Check your accounts to see if you've received this!

Commonwealth Bank has given $50 each to customers whose payments were delayed by a massive outage last week.

Internet banking failed for 12 hours overnight on Thursday, leaving customers unable to receive wages or make any payments.

On Tuesday night Commonwealth paid out 150,000 customers who were directly affected at a total cost of $7.5million.

Update additional info from News.com.au

HOW TO CLAIM THE $50
Commonwealth Bank said it had already made payments into the necessary accounts and won’t be contacting customers asking for details to process payments.
“If a customer is approached for their account details they should not provide this and the customer should let us know by phoning our call centre or visiting us in branch,” the spokesperson said.
“We apologise to everyone who has been affected by the delay in payments and we are very sorry for the inconvenience it has caused.”

Gave them a call and told them I wasn't able to pay bills or transfer money ect during the outage and they credited my account with $50

    • I tried that, got told unless I have invoices proving that I suffered a financial loss, nothing can be done

I had initially told them I tried to pay rent but couldnt so had to go into the landlords bank to deposit

  • +6

    Should be marked as targeted.

    • +3

Should be marked as "Compensation" and moved to a Forum. Its not a deal.

  • +5

Should be bloody $5000…. gigantic bunch of bastards

    • +21

The industry standard is $250 now

      • +4

        I got that reference

        • Beat me to it

    • How much money did you have in your account at the time of the outage…

    Nothing :(

  • +10

I was affected and got nada

    • +1

      Same…

Took an extra day to get paid from my clients banking with CBA.

      No compensation received thus far…

      • i got paid 5 days later….nothing. Commonfilth- stain of a bank

    • only important people got paid

      • Prob ozbargained.

    • +1

Lodged a formal complaint with CBA on Friday, including impact, and requested a Supervisor/Team Leader call me. Five (5) days later, no one has bothered to call, let alone any compensation.

  • +35

Appreciate you making this known but this isn't a bargain, it should be in the forums?

  • +7

    Any love for Bankwest customers?

    • +1

Just checked my account and got the deposit "sorry from bankwest"

      • Nothing for me, but I wasn't really affected. I'm interested to know how they determine if you were or weren't. I didn't miss my pay and my card wasn't declined, but I wasn't able to log into the app for a while. That could have prevented me from transferring money at a critical time. I mean, it didn't, so I don't deserve any money, but there could easily be people out there that were affected in this way, and it seems the automated sorry payments wouldn't cover them.

        • Probably just checked whether any deposits or withdrawals were requested on your account during the affected hours. The outage didn't bother me at all but my pay did come in late. So I just got lucky with free money. Feel sorry for those who were left in the lurch though.

    • Got it on my wife's account last night "Sorry from Bankwest"

    • I have both bankwest + commbank accounts. Didn't get anything. But I didn't have any problems with their website recently either.

IMO, this is much better than ubank, I have problems with logging in there every few days but have never received anything for it.

    • Nothing for me

  • +10

    Unobtainable deal.

    • Unless you are with CBA and get it? ;-)

      • +2

Except for all the people in this thread that are with CBA and didn't get it?

        • Like posting a telstra deal for new customers only right? I mean I can't get it as I'm not a new customer.

          • @onlinepred: Yes you can. Sign up for a new Telstra service.

            • @[Deactivated]: yes I agree you can obtain it, not sure why you would as it makes zero sense to have two services active. But yes, point proven.

          • +1

@onlinepred: Except that deal is obtainable by some. This deal is unobtainable by everyone unless CBA decides you are worthy.

            • -2

@Tacooo: So this deal is obtainable by some also ;-)

              • -1

                @onlinepred:

unless CBA decides you are worthy.

People can't apply for this deal. People can't pay to get this deal. People can't sign up for this deal. What are you not understanding?

                • -1

@Tacooo: Relax mate, was just messing with what you said. Geez.
You said "This deal is unobtainable by everyone unless CBA decides you are worthy", so therefore it's obtainable by some.

      • There's nothing you can do to get it. CBA even expressly says - payments will be made directly and automatically, and not on application.

    • Nah, it's a deal for the Commonwealth Bank. Works out it cost them about 0.1 % of there yearly profit whilst also probably avoiding getting sued from the people whom they gifted the money to as a form of compensation.

  • Forum's

    • Forum's what?

      Who is Forum?

      • +1

For'im and For'er but not For me.

  • +1

Be it a bargain or Forum as long as I get the info …….that’s what it counts.

  • +16

    Thanks bought 10

  • Nice gesture but the compensation should a lot more for a large company vs an individual . I'm sure the legal teams are figuring out the action .

    • +3

the compensation should a lot more for a large company vs an individual

      why?

      • They lost definitely larger amounts no doubt .

        • +5

They lost definitely larger amounts no doubt .

some individuals lost large amounts too.

shouldn't it be based on the transaction amount, rather that company vs individual?

          • -7

@jv: Lol so Gramps your assuming individuals as a group have lost more than large companies ?

Is it April fools day :) ?

  • +7

I got nothing and this isn't a deal

  • +7

Their system is still not working cuz I didn't recieve the $50… Waiting for it.

  • +3

    Not a deal.

  • +2

I tried to transfer money during the outage and didn't get it either..

  • Even I didn’t got it

    • +8

Even! Wow, I expected you would get it for sure!

    • +1

when past tense is used, you don't need another past form of verb

  • +4

So much for Canstar's 2019 Online and Mobile Banking Award winner.

  • +5

Getting this or not is out of our control, how is this a bargain? You either got it or you didnt.

  • +2

    this is a forum topic

  • +2

    What's the usual price??

  • +6

I'm one of the ones who was affected by this.
Direct Debit was meant to go out Thursday, didn't come out till Saturday.
Had to speak to the company that didn't receive the money and also Commbank.

And yet I'm not one of the ones who've been compensated.
This just makes me even more pissed off.

    • -2

Who do you think you are? I used to use CBA's terminals and they were off at least 2 days a year. In those two unfortunate days, thousands of $ can not be processed. And CBA never do any thing. Then I changed to St. George and pay off CBA $450 for each returning terminal. Once again, you have your own choices.

      • +2

What the hell are you smoking? This person isn't allowed to be cheesed off that their direct debits were delayed 3 days? Who do you think you are?

  • I got it lucky me I guess

  • +1

    no MS paint???

    • +3

That's the problem. Those who are complaining haven't submitted an MS Paint picture to CBA illustrating how they were affected by the outage. Read your PDS, people!

  • How is this a deal????

  • +1

i got it. wages should of come in on Thursdays, but it took them till Saturday night to get through the backlog of transactions for mine to go through. Didnt really affect me as i do most of my purchases with creditcards. but some live off paycheck to paycheck.

  • +2

    99.5% uptime is still 1 day+ downtime.

    • Is it the only interruption though this year?

Feels like yesterday that the ATMs going down was in the news

  • +1

Does anyone know ALL the criteria that CBA used to make this $50 payment?

Did it involve your name, your balance, whether you have a Netbank account, etc?

Did you have to make an attempt at a CBA ATM withdrawal? Or could you make one from a Rediteller one as well, as this would make you eligible?

What are the exact business rules they used to make payments???

    • Does anyone know ALL the criteria that CBA used to make this $50 payment?

Doubtful CBA would publicise this - doing so would turn it from a gratis payment to something some people might feel entitled to (legally, even if they morally feel this way already).

At a guess, I'd say that the payments are made by CBA by going through their records and seeing which customers had income/wages (other?) types of credits going into their accounts that were held up and delayed by the outage, possibly also cross-referenced with those customers who had debits come out and were charged penalties for overdraws, dishonoured debits, etc.

  • No bankshush for me … grrr

  • +3

No $50 for me, I did affect by the outage.

  • +1

Paid for my mates' lunch but did not receive my money due to this outage, yet I got 0 x $50.

  • +2
  • This is a great deal… for CBA!!

I suppose they figured $7.5M is way cheaper than fixing their legacy systems properly.

  • Stingy buggers, even Bunnings gave $250.

  • +5

I am closing my account with CBA

  • My rent was late for the first time ever thanks to them, and i didn't get anything.

    • +2

      Maybe your landlord did?

  • +5

    Aw I wanted a peanut.

    • +3

      $50 can buy many peanuts

      • +4

        Explain how.

        • +4

Money can be exchanged for goods and services.

  • +1

I was affected. A payment to my account reached 1 day later. I did not get any money.

  • +1

I may not have noticed the outage, but I still want my $50!!! I shall write to my bank manager about this.

  • I honestly don't understand why people bank with the big 4.

  • -5

I've got a far better deal. Do your tax and receive 21.6 times this paltry offer (average income).

Under $37,000 – you will get $255 back.
    Between $37,000 and $48,000 – $255 back plus 7.5% of what is over $37,000 (so that’s between $255 and $1,080).
Between $48,000 and $90,000 – $1,080 back, flat. No calculations needed.
Between $90,000 and $126,000 – $1,080 back but minus 3% of what is over $90,000 (so between $1,080 and $0).
    Over $126,000 – zero.

To the dips….. er neggers. Feel free to exercise those last few remaining braincells and explain how dealbot's "deal" is better than mine. Take your time, wouldn't want to overheat that engine room too much.

  • Isn’t this all a scam. Heard about it on the news tonight

  • Not a deal.

  • Got up this morning nd came to know tht i was effected after seeing 50$ with SORRY FROM CBA msg.
Is thr anyway they can effect me weekly ?

    • +1

I am happy to be effected daily ;)

    • +1

They can delay every payment of mine by a week if they pay me $50 each time, LOL.

  • Have received $50 from CBA.

Was not affected as far as I know.

I do get paid on Fridays.
