Products that you have bought that have disappointed you.....

I recently went to Good Guys to purchase a dvd player and asked for a sony dvd player $79 and they were out of stock then the sales person said get this toshiba one for $79 it is much better than the sony.

So i bought and went home tried it out does what every dvd player plays dvd but it does not have on function i assume every dvd player in today's society have the function to be able to play on from the part you were watching before you turned it off.

This was disappointing to say the least ….

Lesson is do not believe sales people. I always take their advice at face value and do my own research prior.

Edit: I bought an iPod 160G a few yrs ago, paid ~$350, i never got around to using it as it sat collecting dust for a few months in which I later sold. I only turned it on twice but never loaded anything onto it. Was my first ever apple "i" product. Wasn't that impressed by it, only bought it because thought I was missing out on the hype with every Tom, Dick and Harry having one.

Having said that I bought a 2G BASE branded mp3 player from Target on special think was <$50 used it a few times now just sits collecting dust. Have mp3 on my phone nowadays which is suffice.

  • picked up a Toshiba Gigabeat (30GB) about 5 or so years ago cos it was cheaper than an ipod. Returned it the next day, thank goodness, simply cos you couldn't use it whilst it was being charged - ruled out in-car use.

    • so from this thread it can be said anything toshiba should be returned immediately after bought.I just think toshiba leave out basic stuff that consumer expect in the item they purchase

      • think i got swayed by the colour screen when ipods only had b&w

    • I still use my Gigabeat and think it is excellent. Audio quality is really good. Not sure why you think you can't use it and charge it at the same time. There is a glitch re turning it off whilst plugged in via USB that can delete your entire music collection though! If it gets you once, you never forget how to avoid it.

      • seem to recall that when you plugged it into a USB charger it would go into PC mode or something like that. it was 5 years ago, so could be mistaken. It was the X30 i think.

      • I also had a few Gigabeats, both F, X and S models and don't recall this flaw..
With Rockbox firmware, the gigabeat was a VERY good music player.
I sold my S before the Rockbox project was completed for it (bought an 8Gb Samsung T10 for $80, from a deal posted here and loved the slim portability of it)

        • lol I've still got my Archos Jukebox. I was involved in the rockbox project when it first started. That project turned a piece of carp into an actually usable product, and eventually into a product that pwned everything else on the market.

Really disappointed by the dolphin knife to be honest. Thought it would give me street cred but I was mistaken.

    • the dolphin knife is the BEST purchase i have ever made. 1cent delivered, wow. many uses for my spiked head dolphin.

      • Really ? Lucky you

Mine fell apart within 3 minutes

  • I have a Toshiba one also…

Got a Toshiba 37" LCD TV early on which cost a fortune. Wasn't till I got home and hooked up my HTPC that I found about 1-1 pixel mapping, which, of course, the Toshiba couldn't do. Had to live with it for ages because right after I bought it LCD prices totally crashed.

    And one more…
Toshiba walkman in the 80's. Really was not up to the job, in the end it had more tape holding it together than plastic. But it had a 3 band graphic eq and auto reverse!

    Oh and one final one….
Toshiba laptop. Consumer model Celeron(P3)-500. Would get so hot that the fan sounded like a hair drier, and the fan started making an annoying screaming sound as the bearings burned up.

I don't think I'll buy toshiba ever again.

  • Does it have a bookmark setting in the menu? maybe you can enable it

  • i had a philips dvd player no eject button on controller ???

    It the little things :D

    • +4

But what's the first thing you do after hitting eject? Send your robot arm via voice command to go to the machine and take the disk out?

      • +1

and then press the remote button to close the tray

  • Omg, I bought a cheap 19 dollar AWA DVD player from BIG W and it sometimes says I cannot eject the disk hand symbol displayed so I have to turn it off, then back on and try it again until it ejects the tray. I also had this 300 dollar Blanco convection microwave, which decided it didn't want to work its gun anymore one morning. Its top halogen heating element still works, the lights come up and everything, its just that it doesn't heat food like it used to.

I got a nice little toshiba notebook from mln, forgot I was looking at notebooks cos the lack of disc drive made me sad:(

  • Toshiba batteries are of bad quality !

Bought some @ Kmart as they had them advertised a while back -( but not in stock 4 for 2.00 )
So ended up buying the 20 pack as I needed some.

Realised they are not holding their charge at all

and I had a hard time returning them to Kmart as the snooty ( new ) young store manager suspiciously questioned my use. ( Marrickville Metro NSW ). Felt like I wanted to cut up my Fly Buys card and shove it into his crevice.

Funny that funky ass attitude like that changed my customer loyalty towards Kmart & I go somewhere else now for everything.

    • I'm glad it wasn't just me - bought a set for a baby's toy and they lasted about a tenth of the time of the previous set of elcheapo ones that I'd gotten at the warehouse.

  • Among my worst buys … every video recorder I've ever bought (& I've bought far to many) … could NEVER work out how to use timer!

I'd assume it was me, not the recorders, if it wasn't for the endless stories of others who have had similar problems.

    Thank god for Foxtel.

  • Does the toshiba dvd player have a rewind function?

My worst buy was this blue russian blue x kitten. cutest thing ever. the ex wanted a lap cat, so we bought that kitten. It turn out that the kitten hated her but loved me. and she made made my life miserable because of that.

so i dump the gf and kept the kitten. cutest and silliest cat ever.

      lol. pic of both?

  • I bought an LG microwave which may or may not be possessed.

    • When the food is cooked, it beeps 4 times, like basically any other microwave. It also has a reminder beep a bit later in case you didn't hear the first time. It's the bit later that irks me - it varies anywhere from 3 minutes to immediately so even if you're right in front of it as it finishes it beeps four times then, after less time has passed than the gap between the beeps, it starts another four beeps.

    • It has settings for cooking rice vs lamb vs defrosting minced meat, etc. When it was new, all worked. Now, no. If you want to defrost a whole chicken, that's okay so long as the weight is <1199g or >1501 grams. You cannot defrost a chicken of 1400g. Similarly, you can't defrost more than 600g minced meat. You can't defrost steak unless it's 400g.

It frustrates the hell out of me and as soon as I find a replacement at a reasonable price, I am taking that microwave down to the creek and drowning it with two bricks in a hessian sack…

    • Do an officespace on It haha! The backyard and someform of bat should do

Bought a Garmin 4.3" GPS about 18 months ago, and have only used it once or twice. It's slow, input system is awkward (especially when you are in hurry on the road), searching is inaccurate, and often it's faster to just pull out the street directory.

These days I just use Google Map navigation feature on the Android phone.
