Hi
I have a 2011 iMac which is chugging along still.
I don’t use it for much and the 26” screen is good for Netflix.
Thinking to the future I was thinking of replacing the hard drive with a solid state drive rather than replace the unit.
I don’t really want to spend too much on this as it’s an old machine. I don’t really think I’m up to a DIY job on an iMac.
Looking for suggestions for cheap parts and labour for this? Or any other suggestions :)

Do you mean replacing the HDD with an SSD is easy but adding an SSD while keeping the HDD installed is hard?
By adding you need to make room for the the extra drive and also need access to the extra port. Replacing is easy as you use a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter.
So you need to buy a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter in addition to an SSD?
It's actually not too hard to replace the HDD with an SSD.
Check out iFixit.
I'm also thinking about doing this on my Wife''s old iMac. I'll check out iFixit.
Thanks guys, I'll check out DIY.
Not sure how you went with this OP. I recently added an SSD as the boot drive to a 2012 imac via the usb2.0 and it's significantly faster.
It was a bit of process as I attempted to use the thunderbolt 2 connection but that didn't pan out.
adding ssd is hard, but replacing with ssd is easy, go DIY.
