Good reviews on the DD website for this combo pack.
For someone time poor and lazy like me, $39 is a good investment for Lunch and Dinner

you are not going to be cooking dinner in a hurry with a slow cooker
personally i would prefer a cheapo from bigw/kmart/coles. much easier to handle warranty issues.
You might not cook it in a hurry, but the actual amount of time you spend cooking (ie paying attention to the cooking process) is low and it isn't an issue if you accidentally forget it for an hour (it might get a little dry, but it won't burn).
Retailers seem to be pushing very hard in selling slow cookers these days. They're everywhere. And for a guy like me, I'll be asking the question - how do you make use of a slow cooker? What do I cook in it, and how? More importantly, why should I use a slow cooker?

Slow cookers are great for curries you put all the stuff in it in the morning and leave it to cook all day and come home to a meal ready for you to eat. It gets all the flavours through and meat falls apart its so tender.
carbon tax and electricity bills are coming…
pfft slow cooker wouldn't use much electricity..
They generally use 150-200W. Compared to a toaster at ~1kW or an oven at 200C at around ~6kW, that's not much though. 150-200W is similar to an X360 or PS3 though, not counting the TV. So it's not that much.
Btw people, if you want a rice cooker that cooks rice properly, go for a more expensive one. Not these cheap chinese separate lid cookers (the see through glass ones). I have used one in the past and they don't make rice as well as the more expensive ones.
What do you recommend (ie. brand & model number)?
Oh I have a Breville Syncro It has worked fine and cooks perfect rice when I use it. http://www.productreview.com.au/p/breville-syncro-programmab…
Anything with a properly sealed lid (ie rubber seal & clamps).
I bought a slow cooker from the Good Guys for $17, and a rice cooker from BigW for $15. Both going strong and 1 year warranty which will be easier to claim from the retailer. This DD deal is good for those who can't get to the shops, but otherwise I don't think it's anything special.
I just buy the cheap one from Big W, their own brand. I think it cost like $20. they all do the same thing
