when he first posted it didn't have a start in 2 days

        • My bad, forgot to put in the start date.

often found in limited flavours at spudshed for a third of the price…..

    • +1

Unfortunately we don't have anything like the spudshed here (ACT).

    • The nearest Spud Shed is 205km away :(

I do have 2 NQR's nearby though which is nice.

  • I wish WW had the mango flavour of H-D.

Imagine becoming so beta that they waited 3 months so someone can prove their internet comment was correct then announcing that they got downvoted unfairly.

Imagine your wife reminds you what you've done wrong on that Sunday afternoon 15 years ago ;)

  • these vs connoseuir?

    • I really like Peanut Butter Crunch, and Connoesuir don't make Peanut anymore.

    • +2

No contest. These are far superior.

    • +2

These are definitely a tier above. The HD Salted caramel is too good to be sold in a tub.

      • +2

Yep, best salted caramel in supermarket by far.

    • +28

      Häagen-Dazs for sure…

      Just compare the ingredients:

Connoisseur Ice Cream Cookies & Cream 1l tub

Cream (30%), Skim Milk (Concentrate or Solids), Sugar, Water, Wheat Flour, Glucose Syrup (Wheat), Vegetable Oil, Cocoa (1%), Dextrose Monohydrate, High Fructose Syrup, Vegetable Origin Emulsifiers [471 (Soy), 322 (Soy)], Flavours, Mineral Salts (500,503), Salt, Vegetable Gum (410), Corn Starch, Colour (160b), Antioxidant (319).

Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Ice Cream With Cookies

Fresh Cream, Condensed Skimmed Milk, Sugar, Egg Yolk, Wheat Flour, Coconut Oil, Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder, Salt, Raising Agent (Sodium Bicarbonate), Natural Vanilla Flavouring.

Can you see the difference? Häagen-Dazs ingredients are pretty much what you'd use at home to make cookies & cream ice cream. Connoisseur has artificial colors, artificial flavours, preservatives, emulsifiers, thickeners, powdered skim milk etc. Häagen-Dazs has none of that.

      • +2

        You are top notch Lubro!

      • Yes, because…. chemicals.

    • +1

Connoisseur is crap. Never got the hype, nothing premium about it at all.

Or Tip Top in New Zealand…best ice cream in the world

      • Tip Top in NZ is Australia's Bulla.

NZ's Kapiti and Kallinchy Gold were great.

        • Bulla may be the equivalent in terms of branding…but the ice cream in NZ is far superior. Must be the cows/dairy. I've never seen Tip Top here, but my local IGA does stock Much Moore which is also from NZ. It's delicious

  • Just curious though if anyone actually tried to make ice-cream themselves? Is it better than supermarket ice-cream?

    • +5

It's easy to spend more on the raw ingredients. Getting stuff like this at half price is the way to go.

    • I've tried about five times (basic cuisinart machine). Although I've managed to get some amazing flavours (here and here) I've never got the texture right. It's always icy and hard, not smooth and creamy. Still haven't figured out what I'm doing wrong :(

      Also, yes, definitely more expensive.

    • +1

Yes, few times but there is fair bit of effort required and it does cost few times more than best store bought.
I make custard based ice cream, and my favourite homemade flavours are Poached Banana, Figs and Rum, Salted Caramel, and Chocolate Sorbet made with Valrhona cocoa.

    • I've just made matcha ice cream with 600ml of thickened cream, a can of condensed milk and 3 tablespoons of matcha powder. Blend everything until soft peaks form then freeze for at least 8 hours. It is harder than store bought ice cream when frozen, so let it sit in room temperature for 10 mins before scooping.

    Too bad no speculoos.

omg i am so mad about this, that was the best one!!!!

  • Has anybody tried Häagen-Dazs in Denmark ?

    • Why someone neg this comment, JV not wrong

    • Häagen-Dazs is actuallu American pretending to be European. Kind of like how Superdry is British pretending to be Japanese.

      • Häagen-Dazs is actuallu American pretending to be European.

        Why pretend to be Danish?

        • I dunno, because it's fancy sounding to uncultured American ears? It's not even real Danish, in Danish you couldn't ever put z and s together.

          • @ippy:

because it's fancy sounding to uncultured American ears?

            What's wrong with Brönx-Dazs ?

  • Can anyone rank the flavours from best to worst?

    • +7

The $5.75 flavour, then the $7 flavour, then the full price flavour!

Seriously though, I'm keen to know too

      • Strawberry numba 1

    • peanut butter crunch easily the best

    • +1

      1 Salted Caramel
      2 Peanut Butter
      3 Strawberries & Cream
      4 Cookie Dough

    • Has anyone tried the Barista Collection. I tried the Brownie Macchiato and its pretty good.

  • Mmm, interesting that these are made in France. I would have thought this would be made in Oz.

    • +1

like a lot of the half pint and pint tubs they are shipped here, same with ben and jerry's i think they are shipped from the USA

never understood why they don't hook up with a local ice cream company and work something out to make it locally like other brands do, so the price can come down

the price of these tubs including this brand are much much cheaper in the states a lot of the time around $4 everyday if i remember correctly

  • +1

I need green tea flavor, could find it anywhere in Melbourne.

  • I tried the stick version of the Strawberry and Cream but was disappointed. Hoping the tubs a bit better.

  • Peanut butter one is best by far. Pity the vanilla and choc are not available.

  • There is also a chocolate frappe falavour available.

I saw mine at Kings Langley NSW

I went to get some milk and had a look.
