What to Buy? Dell XPS 13 9380 or 7390

Hi guys,

I am looking to upgrade my xps 9350 which has served me very well so far. Was wondering what shall I get as my next laptop – xps 9380 or xps 7390. I have relative visiting us from US in Nov so she can bring one from me.

I will be mainly using this as my daily use home laptop; Buying locally will provide me 30-day price guarantee from Dell, in that case I would prefer 9380 but the question is if 7390 provides better value for the same price, if so I will get it from the US a

Based on current pricing on both US and AU dell sites following is approx pricing for both options ;

Dell US XPS 13 i5 7390 – US$ 1077.99 (AU$-1580)
Dell AU XPS 13 i5 7390 – AU$2398.99

Dell US XPS 13 i5 9380 – US$ 1099.99 (AU$-1611)
Dell AU XPS 13 i5 9380 – AU$1699.01

    Do we get to know the specs difference, or do we have to go researching so we can answer the question?

    The 7000 series is the 2-in-1s? They tend to have the ultra-low power CPUs which may restrict performance

    The 7390 does come with 10th gen CPUs though vs the 8th gen ones in the 9380 so maybe the performance gap is narrow

    XPS 7390 13 (2-in-1) gets my vote. Even if you don't use tablet mode, Dell has rectified all the issues of last gen (better hinge, webcam moved to top, larger keyboard).

    The mid-spec 2-in-1 also has newer specs with 10th gen (10nm) i7-1065G7 and Iris Plus vs 8th gen (14nm) i7-8565U with UHD 620. It's more than base XPS, but IMO premium is worth it.

    Cool so far, 9380 is leading the way. Looking to pull the trigger on one of them in next 3-4 days max.

    Update: price for the dell 9380 is now at ~$1599 on ebay and the dell website. I think if I were you I would grab it! but if you are looking for something with similar specs to the 7390, I think the Surface Laptop 3 will be a better option in terms of price but YMMV if you want Thunderbolt 3
