eBay Replacement Battery Lower Capacity than Advertised

In a true ozbargain spirit, I ordered a replacement battery for my phone on eBay instead of replacing my phone. The battery was advertised as 3000mAh, however the actual capacity is closer to 2300mAh. The caveat is that this is measured by Accubattery app so it won't be the most accurate reading. The battery is in my phone now and I managed to damage the old battery when removing it so I am sort of stuck with the new battery. I contacted the seller and they offered A$5 refund so my question is - has anyone had better luck getting a refund for battery capacity being lower than advertised via ebay/paypal dispute?

Also - where does one buy decent batteries these days that live up to the capacity advertised?

Purchasing a Third Party battery always comes with it's risks,
If you want peace of mind go genuine

I recommend open a paypal dispute, many of these ebay sellers are cowardly and will generally say yes to a full refund when you open significantly not as described dispute. They usually operate on the basis that many of their buyers do not know how to check battery capacities and thus fail to open a dispute within the buyer protection period

    • You open a SNAD dispute with eBay - not PayPal. PayPal are only the paying agent, the sale is transacted on eBay and they are the one to lodge the claim with.

      • No, don't go with Ebay method. Opens you open to a lot of scams still.

      • Ebay buyers have the choice to open SNAD or INR with either Ebay or Paypal.

  • IF you want all your money back you will have to return the battery in tact to the seller. If you want to keep the battery you should negotiate with the seller. How much was the battery? Is it worth your time to argue about this issue when you have already received a $5 refund?

  • Thanks everyone, I'll try to do an Ebay dispute and see how it goes.
