    • Depends if you want to pay ETC fees. If you dont then, youll need to port as close to your contract end date as you can. Do it before so you dont start a new billing cycle.

  • Hmm my existing plan still has a month to run, but it's probably worth taking the penalty for this. Amazing

  • It has been 5 days for me and the delay of porting is still ongoing from Optus prepaid to Telstra. Apparently Telstra is having some porting issue. Did the $65/12 mth plan thru JBHifi. $500 voucher only for Iphone and $400 for Samsung. Both to be used for phones over $1000 i believe.

Have contacted Telstra and not much to do other than wait.

  • What's the cheapest SIM card to port-out to?

I want to do this deal on Friday, so should I get an Optus SIM right now but NOT do a recharge, then walk into JB/TGG and port back in?

Or buy a Vodafone SIM and port to Vodafone?

Do you have to "recharge" with Optus or Vodafone or whoever in order to port-out to them?

I'm looking for the cheapest way to port out of Telstra and back into JB/TGG Telstra

If you don't want to risk rejected as you haven't ported out for more than 30 days.

You can use the Catch Connect deal which is with Optus. That's what I did

      https://www.catch.com.au/product/catch-connect-30-day-mobile…

      $4.90 for 30 days.

*I have no affiliation with them.

      • I saw your earlier post too and wondered about it but the "ships in 5-7 business days" screws it over. I "need" to do it on Friday so I wanted to get the port-out sim before then

So do you (or anyone else) know if you MUST recharge with Voda or Optus or can you just get the sim-only from them and port out?

        • +1

You don't have to recharge. I bought a $2 Sim from Optus and did it.

  • Does anyone know that I can add $10 international call package on top of the 65 plan? Thanks!

    • I tried to add the $10 Intl calls to a JB plan a few months back and they stuffed around for a while before telling me they couldn't do it. Ended up putting me on a different superseded plan which is what I had originally wanted but it took a few hours of stuffing around. I wouldn't recommend the gamble this time.

  • Excludes Belong…does that mean I can't port in from Belong and get the deal?

    • +1

You can still get the deal but with no gift card I was told.

  • Anyone that has this deal, could you tell me if you have the option "Peace Of Mind Data"?

    • +1

Nup. That's on Telstra's own ones only. $10/1GB

  • So porting out to Aldi wouldn't count as it's still Telstra operated right?

    • Aldi isn't mentioned, I've ported out from Woolworths mobile and they didn't say a thing and that uses Telstra

  • Can anyone that's signed up to the more expensive $65 plan confirm that you can simply switch to the lower $45 plan via the Telstra app?

    • App telling me to change plans or cancel is $389 (I just commenced). But then elsewhere seems to contradict and say no fee (to change only). If you just want a good price on iphone worst case you’ll save $110 taking this offer, best case maybe $500. I can’t see option for $45 JB plans, only Telstra plans.

      • Hi, thanks for taking the time to answer. I want to try and take the approach another user did earlier in this thread, i.e. sign up for the $65 plan to get the $400 voucher then immediately downgrade.

Whilst it's promising that you're seeing (in some instances), no fee to change, it's a bummer that you're only given the option of Telstra's main plans, not the $45 JB HiFi plan.

        • Hi - also interested in this! Grateful if anyone could answer with any recent experiences.

          • @nyataku: Hi guys, I recently signed up for the $65 JB plan with $500 off an IPhone. A week later I was able to change over to the JB $45 plan by going into JB. I tried via live chat, over the phone and via Telstra store and none of those worked, had to go into JB. I didn’t try via the app, but I imagine the JB deals wouldn’t be available to switch to in the app, and ETC fees showing in the app would spook me. Telstra rep I spoke to over the phone at JB assured me there was no ETC for changing plans.

@nyataku: Just went to JB and was quite honest about what I was trying to do - sign up to the $65 plan then go down. Sales rep told me this wasn’t possible without paying an ETC. You can go up in plans without consequence but if you go down in plans, an ETC is applicable.

It seems YMMV as it’s a luck of the draw with all of these anecdotal experiences.

Telstra’s $45/month 50GB + $100 gift card expires today. I’m hoping they’ll revise this deal to bump up the gift card to match TGG.

            • @hephaestus: Ah, that sucks! The contact did have an ETC listed, but rep said it would not apply as I was staying on contract. If you buy it from one store then change plan in another store you might have better luck, as I’m pretty sure they make commission even for a downgrade contract, so they’ll probably be happy to do it.

  • When does this deal expire?

  • I hope this is still available tomorrow, I want to move over from optus

    • Looks like it expired yesterday unfortunately.

      • I think the jb offer is still going…

      • My plan with Telstra expired on the 5th of this month. I went to Good Guys yesterday to get the $45 deal. The guy said even though my plan had expired, I wasn't eligible for the $200 gift card. He also said that this was going to be an on going deal from now on. So by going off what he said, the deal should still be on.

        • I got PM'd too saying that this deal is ongoing. But the site shows the $45 plan with $100 GC now which is not that great. The $65 plan is no longer there as well.

Has anyone got this deal past 16th? Then I'll mark deal as unexpired.
