Heroes of Newerth is giving out $10 accounts at the moment. They are usually $30 and I think this is great value. I have been playing for a year now and still play regularly. It is an amazing game if you have time to understand the mechanics or are familiar with DotA/LoL.

I found out playing HoN alone makes it too boring and frustrating after awhile, those years back then playing wc 3, you could take a break from dota and go with hero sieges, or td, then get back on dota again
with HoN, its so linear and bland it will get you bored real fast. It's 1/100 of the magic that was WC 3 PVPGN.

i'm a huge fan of the game but frugalftw is quite right. there are games/servers for noobs but u should develop a thick skin quickly (or get pro quickly)… because you know your gonna get flamed/kicked/banned/reported.

Then consider Dota2 when Valve release it :)
But still, this is a good deal, i'm obviously biased because I play LoL.
its also riddled with microtransactions to unlock new heroes amongst other things. $10 for hon and you get the entire hero pool (i think its over 80 now) and don't ever have to spend any more
LoL is much more fun imo. I've been playing for ages and haven't bought anything.
There are micro transactions, but only if you want custom skins.
You can get any hero just by getting experience
Or you can just play Dota for a true and tested AoS experience.
outrageously steep learning curve but once get the hang of it, it will be the only game you want to play! $10 is epic value. I would have spent 100s of hours playing this over the last 16 months and it never gets boring! new content around monthly.
You mean shallow learning curve? Steep means it's easy to learn.
I wouldn't recommend this game too, rather play DotA but then again everyone there is a ass. I joined a noob game and i still get flamed for sucking too much.
yeah, LoL is closer to DotA. Much easier to get the hang of.
I would consider this, except over the last few months HoN's servers have been getting destroyed by DDoS attacks and it wasn't uncommon for downtime of 1/7 days.
And while I never had issues with the learning curve (came from DotA) it's true that the community is extremely unhelpful and unkind, be warned if you play, practice before you go online…
in the last month everything has been back up an running no problems. They did a hardware upgrade so I doubt that there will be much more unscheduled downtime
Hmmm…seems like this only works for new accounts only. I logged in with my old account from the free beta and it's showing up as $30.
I am pretty sure that you can create a new account with the same name as beta accounts. I am not 100% sure though
I tried the same on my old account from a free trial and it seemed to still work (although I didn't purchase yet). I noticed there is an option for $20 worth of bonus coins, so if you uncheck that box the price will drop down to $10. Give that a shot?
Unticking that $20 bonus coins did the trick! Now showing as $10! Cheers.
I would recommend the game over LoL & Dota because of the easy to use shop system & multiple user guides built in to help noobs play their hero unlike in LoL & Dota.
RTS Communities are generally not very helpful or sympathetic for new players but if you do decide to play, add me in game and I'll help you out a bit but I'm no pro but I'm a pretty decent player.

New heroes and other cool things are constantly getting added so it's definitely a bargain for $10 and also the graphics are amazing compared to Dota & LoL.

The game is pretty decent but I just didn't like the feel compared to DotA, I'm excited for Dota2 but I think Hon/LoL will lose a lot of players if valve do a good job.

For people that are buying it check out channel, "Clan Austalian Whirlpoolians" As the name suggests its afew of the forum members from Whirlpool that play. Most of us are nicer then the general elite Hon wannabe.

Yeah you can play casually. I started having never played DOTA or similiar before. Just need to be thick skinned, and be prepared to be called a noob.
I found if you join noob only games to start with, and follow the ingame guides helps. The problems with HON is that with the large amount of chars, you really need to play them all numerous times, so you know when you go against them, what their weaknesses / strengths are. So it does take time.

Hey i just signed up to post here.
If you are new to the MOBA genre then this is the game for you, yes LoL might be easier but in HoN the Interface is much cleaner, there are atleast 100+ more guides (from first time playing, beginner, class and pro guides) then other MOBA games.
The game itself is well worth the 30$, its alternative (free version) LoL is also good but thing with that game is you actually have to buy the heroes (apart from a few which are given) where as HoN you get every single hero released. Personally myself I have clocked atleast 700+ hours and will be playing it more in the future.
The downside is the community is really trash, you will get games where even your own team mates will grief you, and sometimes the servers are unstable, but this can be countered by using the Ingame report feature, and the owners themselves apologise for the unstable servers and gift people with avatars + ingame coins which can be used for costumes + announcers.
If you can live past the trash community and learn the game and get good at it, the game becomes amazingly fun and the community gets MUCH MUCH better in the middle - higher tiers of the game (which isn't hard to get too).
All in all definately worth the 10$

Nope, you cant get anything that will let you benefit more over someone who cant, the coins are only there for cosmetic effects (duke nukem sound pack, alternate hero costumes etc)
If you play the game alot then theres really no point in getting gold coins unless you really want something fast or something like the duke nukem soundpack (which is really hard to get with silver coins)
silver coins = coins you get from winning games
Ok, I have caved in and give this a try although I am not that good at game now and I may not have the time to master but for $10 it is just 3 cups of coffee. Any strategy guide?
Go ingame and watch the tutorial, it should help abit then when you pick some heroes click on the shop and you can see the guides, click on the top and you can see user created guides…you should make your own server and practice with yourself (create game then when it asks for select server..select practice)…if your new to the game id suggest trying casual mode cause when you die in normal mode you lose gold where as casual mode has severe reduced effects for deaths
edit: Yes do what compound said, play nostat games..that way if you do really bad it wont matter :)
They're on Youtube. Just play no statistic games. Practise each hero before playing it and make sure you know the mute button for the nerd rage.

no, im not sure what you have done wrong but you dont need to pay for anything else to get all the features

It said my hero had died and it will respawn at the well pool but I am waiting for a long time and nothing happened.
No, when you die in a match you get a timer before you respawn again, you dont choose a hero then stay with it forever, every different game you pick a different hero or the same hero if you want i think in the tutorial it automatically chooses pyromancer for you…but if you want some good heroes to practice the game with try pyromancer, witchslayer…anything intelligence dont play agility until you know the basics
that happened the first time i played tutorial too. it was a glitch, i just went closed program and did it again, worked like a charm

Tried getting into Dota/LoL/Newerth from my roommate. But I stink, never played the others, and the very first game I played, everyone started calling me a retard and noob :( Never played it again.
Yep, since this game is about 90% teamwork orientated, having a team mate that gives away kills and does play to the heroes full potential really gives your team a disadvantage, also most players are jerks and will not accept that someone is just starting out and since the novice player is likely to lose it for the team it reflects back on their performance.
Don't take it too personally and learn from the experience :)

I used to play dota, there are features in HoN that improve the gameplay so much, for $10 it is well worth it
You have to be made of leather to play on BA, no chance if you screw up and constant RQer's along with pro asian 5 man teams on sentinel with a game title of "apem noobs only :)"

Another LoL fan here. I can't seem to rip myself away from LoL, even during their 1 year anniversary free to play promotion.
I like LoL because it seems to be more fun, and the Characters are not so serious.
My friend tried HoN one time, fed, got called a n00b, and his team mates kicked him.
HoN sucks.

Loved DOTA, played it for ages and very much enjoyed it.
As people say, the community of HON is too negative for it to be enjoyable for me. Forgive me if I don't know how to build certain items, they really need to fix up that part of the game and match noobs with noobs.

If you don't have much experience with DotA or LoL, I wouldn't recommend the game… Very competitive game and the HoN community isn't exactly famous for it's noob-friendliness. That being said, $10 is way worth it if you can laugh off the troll and harassment lol. It is a game you'd enjoy and be addicted to :)
