RM Williams Dress Belts 2 for $170 @ The Iconic

491

Cracking price on one of the best quality men’s dress belts out there. RRP $150 each and not often discounted at all let alone by 43%

Belt is available in black and chestnut (very dark brown). Don’t forget to buy a size up from whatever size your waist is.

Edit: picture of belt condition after I’ve worn mine for about 7 months Mon-Fri. Flash makes it look more beaten up than it really is, if you wear at the same notch it still looks great. There’s creasing at the end, and a bit of the applied finish has come off where the belt normally meets the leather. The same yearling leather on my comfort craftsmans this ain’t. But it’s definitely holding up a lot better than standard Myer /DJs fare over the same timeframe for me. Durability is probably the price to be paid for this thin dress style leather.

Give me a local artisan leather made belt, any day over this.

    • +21

Do you have a list of local artisan leather workers?

Any suggestions for one you have used before?

@bradenpd: He's got a point. Sounds wanky, but find a local cobbler and they'll make you a proper belt if they know anything about leather (they should)

@seedyrom: Go to a local agricultural show, on a weekend in the country if you live in the big smoke. Quality belts for great prices.

@Meconium: You're assuming us city folk know how to tell the difference and price a good quality belt…

              • @Baghern: The edge. If its covered in plastic/looks glossy its covering up that its reconstituted ground up leather that won't last.

        • Any recommendations for dress belts?

          • @Major: You could wear those as dress belts.

            • @spaceflight: Any that you know of that are similar to this? https://www.uniqlo.com/au/store/men-italian-leather-stitched…

Rectangular buckle and smooth edges on the leather

              • @Major:

                smooth edges on the leather

Do you mean the tapered and stitched edges?

You find that on bonded leather belts like the Uniqlo belt. That is because the belt needs to be held together.

The belts I shared are full grain leather so it is one piece of leather with no need to stitch it.

    Great deal. Got 5

ROFL $170 for two belts. Is this OzMillionaires? neg away prudes.

BTW, while a good belt is nice, people don't appreciate it THAT much.

But we are once the RBA lowers rates to almost zero. Will be helicopter money! Most people are living in a millionaire factory.

Going forward when you buy a house it is no longer the interest that is going to make you poor, it is the principle :P

    • -1

Some belts last much longer - not implying this one is.

Paid $300 odd for a belt 10 yrs ago and still going strong…

      • +20

when I was 18 I bought a belt which I paid something like 30 bucks.
Now I am 37 and I am still using it :)

        • +27

I take my hat off to you. Not for having a belt that long, but for staying the same size as an 18YO after 19 years.

You must be new to Ozbargain!

          • +3

@The General: I got a tarrocash belt for free from an Ozbargain deal about 10 years ago. I don't see it lasting less than another 20 years.

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: It's known as Tarotrash for a reason lol

              • -2

@montorola: That's right. You get what you pay for. Blah, blah, blah.

It's actually a fantastic belt. Very thick, quality leather. As new after nearly a decade.

                I don't buy brands, I buy products.

          • @The General: I have to admit it was 'a touch' on the large side

        • I have the same story… 20years still good…

But havent worn it the last few years…. my waist substantially wider

      • Paid $5 for a belt in a second hand store back in 2009. Still on me today.

    • +2

      High yield investment?

  • +7

actually not bad compared to the many “ leather belts” which are are made from ground up leather, rebounded with rubber, yet still be able to be called leather ………

    thks grabbed 2.

    • Do you know if burnished or full grain?

    • No they weren’t.

The dress belts were excluded from the site wide 30% though they had a better deal on some of the other belt types. I was looking out for these last week trying to use my $40/$200 AMEX credit.

    • +5

Even if it were, you can’t neg a deal because it was cheaper in the past. If you wanted to buy this today, is there anywhere else you can get it cheaper?

  • +2

Is the yearling worth it over the solid hide belts? I think I prefer the buckle on the https://www.theiconic.com.au/1-1-4-3-piece-solid-hide-belt-6…

  • +3

Lol genuine leather, you're kidding right? It's full grain or nothing.

  • got my own rm.w belt for less than $50 earlier this year

  • +1

To be fair.. if Prada can charge $600 and men still buy their belts.. I suppose a bit of cowboy for $170 isn't that bad too. Unless you're saying people buying Prada are stupid lol.

    https://www.prada.com/au/en/men/accessories/belts.html

    • +1

I bought the dress belt in spite of the longhorn logo not because of it :-) Thankfully it’s really understated in person.

To be fair, I have a $600 Gucci (gifted to me, would never spend that much myself) casual leather belt and it looks as good today as it did 5 years ago. Can’t argue with the quality and durability but certainly paying too much for the brand.

This RM is starting to get the typical creases at the end of the belt after about 6 months of wear. Probably a function of the much thinner leather used in dress belts. It’s not really noticeable as long as you wear it in the same belt notch all the time, but I know it’s not going to be as durable as the Gucci which is why I bought a replacement on this deal. I’ll probably get 2 odd years out of this as a daily wearer compared to closer to 1 year for the cheaply made stuff from Myer / DJs

      • +2

I can think of 600 better stuff to do with a $600 than buy a single belt jeez

    • +5

people buying Prada are stupid lol

      • C'mon don't you know how important it is to have the validation of strangers? Dude some people's lives are built on it.

  • +4

Plenty of full grain leather belts on eBay for $20-35 if you have a quick search

    e.g. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Quality-Genuine-Full-Grain-L…

They're mostly thicker leather in a wider width (so not a dress belt to go with the pair of Comfort Craftsmans you bought for your first Big 4 grad job) but good quality for any other purpose.

I've bought a few from various sellers and they are indeed full grain leather that should conceivably last for decades

    • +5

cheers. will go nicely with my pristine timberlands I wear to my big 4 networking summer barbies

      • -1

        lol

    • Any recommendations for dress belts? (Can't let the Big 4 partners see my belt letting down the outfit)

  • +1

    Uniqlo.

  • +3

Would this belt be effective for the purpose of spanking bottoms? I need something that minimises squirming and leaves even red marks.

  • +2

    For those interested.

Amazon has it for the same price but you can buy 1 instead of 2.

    • +1

That’s just the solid hide belt which is $120 RRP on the iconic. The dress belt which is $150 is the deal OP is referring to for 2 for $170

    • Doesn’t appear to be for the 1 1/4 dress belt though?

  • +2

Are these the kinds of belts that will mean I never have to buy another ever again? Not being smart genuinely asking.

    • +1

Nope you’d want a thicker full grain leather belt for that. I hope I’ll get at least 2 years out of this one as a daily wearer but I don’t think it will last 3-4

    • However the yearling leather comfort craftsman shoes are in that category if you’re looking for ‘forever’ footwear. Nungar is the cheapest reputable place for them.

  • Bought one at around 90 bucks (RRP) in RM Williams Sydney store 3 or 4 years ago and maintained well.

  • Made in china i reckon, rmw only retains the their boots to be produced in Adelaide .

  • +1

Found a store on eBay selling discounted RM Williams work belts for $71.99 with discount, regular price $119.99, a few different styles if you search the store.. couldn't post link, search for "RM Williams Drovers Belt"

I had a belt fitted to a belt buckle passed down to me about 10 years ago from a leather store in Perth CBD.

Cost about 50 all up and is still going strong and has dealt with me as I yoyo over 5 different loops in that time. I wear it 5 days a week + occasionally weekends.

Couldn't see any world where I would pay this much for a belt.

  • +5

Cracking price!? LOL! More like crack pipe price. ;-D

  • Nice RM williams belts can be had on ebay for around 80 bucks.

  • +1

Another case could be 10 belts for $17 each and change one every year!

    • Landfill?

    • +2

Greta gonna give you the stink eye!

  • +4

I have one of these, I think I paid about $90 for it. One of the horns snapped off the longhorn on the buckle - it is made from a very brittle metal. After a couple of years of use, the leather has really warped in some parts.

  • are they made of gold?

  • -4

Ahhh, well done Ozbargain. I knew the comments section would be a complete trashfire of people complaining about this not being a bargain simply because they can't afford the item.

Guess what guys? Some people like nice things and if it's a bargain, why shouldn't it be posted here, even if some people can't afford it?

  • +1

Anyone know if this is a full grain leather belt?

    Differences between different leathers:
    https://joojoobs.com/leather-grades/

Generally only get full grain leather belts after having average experiences with both branded and non-branded non-full grain leather belts.

I have bought a couple of ones from the Ozbarain deal which go well with Jeans, casul etc. for work/dress pants there are some good sales now and then at DJs etc… this was the one that I liked the most (was about $60 but clearance end of line after a few years to $9 last stuff was in very large sizes) - but quality a lot better than the typical dress belt and like the gun metal grey buckle.

    https://www.davidjones.com/full-grain-buffalo-leather-belt-w…

  • Lol some are crazy to spend that much on a piece of inexpensive leather. Spend 30 bucks and get a one it will last a lifetime. Leather is a strong materia. Even these exy ones will crease just like normal ones.

  • bugger out of stock of the sizes i want
