Boomerang for Gmail 15% Discount off $4.99/M and $14.99/M Plans (40% off First 24 Hour)

50
betacustomer

Boomerang for Gmail just left beta, and is going to have paid plans, with the free option limited to 10 emails per month. They just sent an email out to beta testers with a discount code.

If you subscribe to a paid plan within 24 hours, using the coupon code betacustomer, you will save 40% off of your subscription until you cancel. If you subscribe before September, this coupon will save you 15%.

I received the email at 10:24PM AEST on the 14th, so 40% off will go till the same time tomorrow.

Boomerang is a pretty interesting plugin/extension for Firefox/Chrome/Outlook that lets you delay sending out an email, and other nifty stuff like returning an email to your inbox if no one responds. Check out their front page if you want more info, click on the "As featured on:" links on the left to read other "authoritative" write-ups.

i can't see why anyone would ever use that service? it seems pointless…

    • Depends how you use your email I guess. I probably won't sign up myself, since 10 emails a month is more than enough for me. I do use it on occasion.

    • maybe they should concentrate on selling their bits of code to Google since Outlook already has the delay sending function as noted below. and if something is so important to people wouldn't you notice if you get zero replies? what kind of niche business would have a need to be notified about all the zero responses to emails sent out I'd be interested to hear. otherwise for personal use it definitely seems pointless to me at least, and for most normal users lol, leave it at that :)

love all the bogus testimonials on the website !

  • I probably wouldn't find much utility on this (even if it was free). I can organise my emails pretty well.

  • Posting comment so I can cast a negative vote.

blantant abuse of negative vote comment.

Its there for a reason, so we know why you voted that way. Since we dont its revoked and you earn a 1 day ban.

    Neg comment

    Smells like spam

    • Ouch, harsh. I'll try and be more cautious next time I consider posting then.

Sounds like sock puppetting - mods should check.

Perhaps a little investigation on your own part would reveal that my MO doesn't really fit that of a sock puppet. My profile is fairly detailed, I've been around for a while and I've been somewhat active in the community, if not in the forum then at least in voting and posting a comment on deals here and there.

I'm sorry that the deal I posted doesn't appeal to most, but I honestly thought a few might benefit; like I said, I personally wouldn't sign up for paid subscription myself, but maybe someone might find it useful? Please, do at least a little bit of digging before throwing accusations.

Negative voting is used when the deal itself is bad, service/product provided is bad or the provider themselves has a poor track record. None of these are the case, you simply felt that I was spamming or was a sock puppet. Okay, that itself is a fair concern, but isn't that what the report button is for? If you run through the checklist for negative votes in the wiki, I'd have to say your reason for negging doesn't really fulfil the criteria.

Doesn't outlook have that feature - setting a time you want an email to be sent?

Don't feel bad OP, people casting negs didn't bother to find out about this product at all. Just because you don't understand, doesn't mean it's spam or a sockpuppet.

Personally, I don't need or want it. I can perfectly fine create a draft and sent it through my android phone later. There is tons of other features too, which sound interesting although I don't need them.

Some of the responses to deals baffle me lately. For example, the original amaysim deal has like 70 votes positive. So, the same great deal with 10 dollar discount got two votes.

Genuine, nice people turned away with negatives due to voters not understanding the cost of certain additions compared to the competition, such as next day repair warranty etc.

Sorry for ranting at 4am, dammed caffeine!

  • Mods checked - absolutely no sp activity detected.

Your explanation is one confirmed by us. Thank you for your diplomatic response here.

Appreciate the thoughts, however in future concerns like this, rather than posting in the thread, this is best handled by making a report via the REPORT button. That way we can be discrete in making an investigation and no face is lost by either party.

For those that are curious, pretty much every mail applications (Outlook, Thunderbird, Mac Mail) supports delayed sending. And they all support using Gmail as the provider. So if you're happy to run a mail app using Gmail, then you wouldn't need this.

  • Umm I thought this was Ozbargain not OzIThinkThisProductIsCrapOrUseless?

    1) Product/Service is legit
    2) Coupon gives discount

Sounds like something suitable for Ozbargain

    • As I have already asked above, if someone could offer some good examples when this would help a business, then maybe I could be more positive about it?

As it stands right now it seems quite useless to me personally.

Or has ozbargain become —> post any crap which is legit because it is currently "on sale"?

  • I use this in Outlook, and it works well, although the UI sucks (and they've done NO work on it since they announced their move in to Gmail "as well", which seems to actually mean "instead"). I mostly use it to send emails away (to an outlook folder, not on the net) until I want to deal with it - ie "tomorrow morning" "in two days", etc.

The negatives votes on here are just declarations of cluelessness.

    • I think at the moment it is quite unclear to those who see no use for it how it is useful. Maybe you already had a need for it when you heard about it, but if not…

Re: sending emails away to an outlook folder, I would think something similar could be set up using rules?

      • But this brings them back to the inbox at the specified time, which is very very useful.

To use a simple example, say you do what people on here love and buy a voucher. The confirmation arrives, and says you'll get the actual voucher tomorrow morning. To make sure you can check this happens - so you can save it into Evernote, print it out, etc - you send the just-arrived email away with Boomerang until tomorrow afternoon. Effectively it's a reminder, but a very easy one to use.

That's just one basic example, of course.

  • The advantage of this service over using an add on such as this is that the delayed sending is handled by their server, so you do not need to leave your PC running - But at $5 per month, you better be using it a damn lot to justify the cost.

I personally find this service to be expensive (discount or otherwise) given that there a plenty of free (albeit not as good) alternative solutions.

  • Seems good, it's all too easy to send an email of then forget about it. However, I can wait until Gmail inevitably implements this feature itself - I'm suprised they haven't already tbh.
