Imagine thinking Nine Entertainment (Fairfax), the company that literally ran a fundraiser for the current government, are "leftie".

      • -6

The merger was only recent and there are still Fairfax hacks within the upper management. Fairfax radio, SMH, the Age are hard left, hard green. AFR is the only respectable Fairfax mouthpiece, should wake up to themselves and put out some real news like The Australian.

Apple support anyone who lets them take their 30%.
I am surprised Murdoch would let them.

Of course local/city/state library + Zinio is free!

Spend your $15/mth buying a 6pack from Dan to enjoy whilst reading your favourite mag.

Next thing they'll let you subscribe to have junk mail delivered to your phone.

If this was AU$14.99 per year then I might consider.

    • 100% agree.
Per Year this is would be great, but per month, it's almost double Apple Arcade or what Apple TV+ will be.

  • What's is the normal price?

Rather than pay Apple for this service, first have a chat with your local public library, or read their webpage.

Most public libraries offer free online access to a large number of magazines and newspapers. My local library (Brisbane) offers access through RBdigital (previously known as Zinio) and through PressReader. You can use these services at home, just log into your library, search through the library's online catalogue, and follow the link to the newspaper or magazine.

I think the first time you use RBdigital or PressReader, you'll be asked to create an account with them. Access is still free if you connect through your library's link.

I just checked a few of the titles from the list above, picking at random, here are the results I found.

    Available:
    Saveur
    GQ Australia
    The Hollywood Reporter
    The Australian Women’s Weekly
    The Atlantic
    Popular Science
    Newsweek
    Macworld
    Rolling Stone

    Not available:
    Wine Enthusiast
    Forbes (only Spanish-language version available)
    The Wall Street Journal
    The Australian
Scientific American (only Chinese-language version available)

Have to agree with this. Your local library could have access to both services mentioned . The content in my personal view of Apple news + is ordinary. From memory Pressreader offers access to over 200 Australian news and magazine titles. When I lived in Mackay the local morning paper was included.

Best part is both services are free if your local library subscribes to them.

Here’s some info on zinio for libraries

  • this just ruined apple news, i used to like it and now every 2nd story is paid for.

    they're dreaming

  • Have been trying it out for a few days. Almost worth it if you usually buy APC. Disappointed there is no page by page view of newspapers (Herald Sun anyway) and all the sports stories seem to bubble to the top. I like that there is a Mac App, using Zinio and Magzter via a Web Browser is a pain.

$14.99 a month for controlled news

    • We’ve had a directive on that. The preferred phrase is “curated.”

    • Its also News Corp papers only which is very controlled

  • Apple Music
    Apple TV
    Apple News
    Apple Arcade…

    Woooo!!!! Subscription overload!!
