ANZ Access Advantage Rebate of Account Service Fee (up to $300 Back)

244

Not really a deal, but just making people aware that ANZ is doing this and making people "apply" to get their money back.

  1. Requirements: You transfer more than $2,000 per month into your ANZ account
  2. Check your account activity, for "account service fee" -$5.00 and that it is not being refunded already.
  3. If you have that call them up, they will check the last 12 months and use that to refund you for that last 5 years (so up to $300 back).
  4. Buy something :)
  5. Close ANZ and change to a bank without a service fee 👍

Also note, make sure you are not on a "legacy" $2.5 service fee account (limited transactions), my brother was paying around ~$20 extra a month for excess transaction fees.

No monthly account service fee on your new account if you deposit at least $2,000 a month.

You can also apply to us to waive the monthly account service fee on one nominated ANZ Access Advantage account if you:

  • Are under 25 or aged 60 or over
  • Are a full-time student at an Australian educational institution
  • Receive a disability support pension or mobility allowance from Centrelink
  • Have an ANZ Home Loan, an ANZ Residential Investment Loan or an ANZ Portfolio FacilitySuperscript:7and have your salary paid into your account

Why would anyone want this account

    • +8

I've just spent 3 minutes trying to work out what the deal here is.

    • +5

      Agreed :)

Better to jump ship from ANZ to bank without monthly fees..

However, would like to make people aware of this, since ANZ did not tell me and kept charging the fee.

      • Thanks for this, was unaware as well - will need to check what the name of my package is

      • to bank without monthly fees..

Agreed. For Queenslanders, RACQ bank offer a fee-free transaction account without the "monthly deposit" requirement.

Has anyone seen a list on OzBargain of fee-free transaction accounts that don't require a monthly deposit? I just had a quick look through the financial forum, couldn't see one.

      • Making people aware of the cashback for account fee incorrectly charge isn't a deal.. this should be move to forum :)

No deal here. The refund of service fee for $5 has been going on since the beginning of time when you deposit at least $2K a month

    • +3

Yes, since 2013 apparently, however they do tell their customers and keep charging the monthly fee even if the $2k is coming into your account.

So if you have 2k coming in and are still getting charged the fee, call them up and they will refund the money.

Longer ago than that. I used to work for them 15 years ago and this was the case back then.

    • +1

Not automatically for some accounts, not even for those who has been with ANZ literally a long time. I had to go through their Customer Consultant or something to get the fee cancelled. But they could not cash back. So this is good for me.

  • +3

    So what's the deal?
check if you have been overcharged so you can claim it back?

    • Yes, lets keep our banks honest. Just letting people know since this was happing to basically my whole family.

      • +1

Was happening to me too until someone pointed it out to me previously.

  • +3

they've always reversed the account service fee if you deposit >= $2000
    -5.00 ACCOUNT SERVICING FEE -5.00
5.00 REVERSAL OF ACCOUNT SERVICING FEE MINIMUM $2000 IN DEPOSITS RECEIVED 0.00

just easier to close the account though …

    • For me, I transferred over 2K per month, but did no have the reversal of the account servicing fee.

      • Just wondering is there a limit to how many accounts can get a rebate?

    • Definitely does this to me all the time!

No fees with NAB ac. No min deposit either.

  • +1

You can also apply to us to waive the monthly account service fee

Apply? So they steal from.you and only give it back if you ask nicely (whilst waiting 30mins to speak to the gentleman in the OS call centre)?

How generous of them. All is forgiven banks, we love you again!

  • Just swapped away from ANZ for all our accounts, loans, credit cards etc after many years.

I had to hound to get my $5 service fee reversed, but this isn't a deal

Someone posted this a while ago. We recovered $300 from ANZ. Cheers. They initially offered a one year refund ($60) which my wife politely declined. Even when appearing to right wrongs they're still out to scam.

  • No one should be paying account service fees on any standard bank account where you are holding your money. Regardless of deposit requirement. Banks are using your money to lend to other people and making money off the interest. They don't need the fees - no deal!

If you are paying the fees call them up and get them waived. Otherwise threaten to leave! Plenty of other institutions with similar levels of service and no fee bank accounts.

  • The ANZ Access Advantage account is your standard bank account with unlimited ANZ ATM access, internet and phone banking. It has a $5 monthly service fee which is waived in you deposit $2000 into your account each month.Jun 3, 2019

    From Google search

    • Friend, why would you choose this over pretty much anythhing else? NAB has no fees, no deposits needed?

  • If you want to stick with a Big 4 bank, NAB doesn't charge these BS service fees.

Neither do most of the second tier banks…Macquarie and Citibank also don't charge currency conversion fees or foreign ATM fees.

Only reason I have an ordinary bank account is because it's an offset account attached to my home loan…

  • So if you are on DSP and have not told them and have been getting charged $5 per month, can you still apply to get all those $5 fees back or not?

    • Yes, for the last 5 years 👍

Deal of the month in my opinion, just called and got everything refunded back to 2013, $355 refunded.

    Awesome, thanks OP.

And to the neggers, if you've banked with Anz for all these years and not known about this. Then it's a great deal.

    • +1

      Awesome 👍

      Glad this was helpful :)

    • Exactly. Probably more of a forum thing than an actual deal, but still good to know of those of us who have been with ANZ all this time and didn't know we could get those fees refunded.

I've been with ANZ for years and was paying the monthly fee on my Access Advantage account up until about March last year when I found out I had to contact them to have the service fee waived going forward, but had no idea they could refund the fees they've already charged. I've got statements all the way back to August 2013 showing the service fee, so I might try my luck with getting some of that back. Thanks for the heads up.

  • +1

Thanks op, just had $354 credited back to me.

    I love banks.

  • I had $160 refunded when I called ANZ up regarding this about 6 months ago.

My issue with this "deal" is ANZ did not advertise this to their customers well.

I did not know I was entitled to this refund until an ANZ banker mentioned it when I was setting up another account.

They should have automated the process, instead of making customers review all their monthly statements.

  • Thanks OP. getting $340 refunded.

  • Update: Called and someone went through my statements and could see I was still paying the monthly service fee up until March last year when I asked about getting it waived, as I'd opened the account in August 2013 - shortly before the $2000 monthly deposit rule came into effect. At the time they said they could waive the fee going forward but couldn't refund the previous fees I'd already paid. Confirmed they now can and I've got a refund coming for all monthly charges I'd paid since December 2013, when that rule came into effect.

Still agree this isn't actually a deal and technically it's not free money, but it's $250 I wouldn't have known I was entitled to if it weren't for this being posted, so thank you OP!
