also heating the actual bag that the popcorn comes in is a problem.

"The possible link between microwave popcorn and cancer isn’t from the popcorn itself, but from chemicals called perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) that are in the bags. PFCs resist grease, making them ideal for preventing oil from seeping through popcorn bags.

The trouble with PFCs is that they break down into perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a chemical that’s suspected to cause cancer.

These chemicals make their way into the popcorn when you heat them up. When you eat the popcorn, they get into your bloodstream and can remain in your body for a long time."

Do these ones have PFCs ?

Pro tip for making your own popcorn that's going to taste better than these, be way healthier and also save you money in the long run:

    1. Get a Whirley Pop.
    2. Get Flavacol.
    3. Get some coconut oil (with beta carotene if you want the yellow movie popcorn look).
    4. And of course some corn kernels.
    • I had to google both Whirley Pop & Flavacol

  • Will have to stock up. Aldi changed their bags within the last few weeks - don't pop as well/taste anywhere near as good (old foil bags versus new plastic bags)

    • Foil in the microwave isn't a good idea..

I mean the retail packaging - old foil lined plastic was great, versus new plastic being crap. The paper bags are now thicker, taste different, and don't pop fully.

Does the popcorn taste different as well or is just the bags' flavour that's changed?

          • @Carnal: Yeah it's quite a fake butter flavour, whereas before was quite nice

  • Keen to give this a try. However will need to get a microwave first
