Suggest Me a Good Pruning Saw!

I saw someone post this up: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/487740
but I was late and it went from $55 back up to $75.

Quite keen on pulling the trigger and buying it ad this price anyways but just thought I'd ask here cause I know little about tools like this and if there's a better brand or model.

I'm planning to use it only to prune out my citrus trees and a good to have for other DIY stuff in the house in the future.

Would love some suggestions or thoughts if this item at $75 is worth it

  • I got it from Masters clearance years ago. $75 is definitely worth it. But it's October already, surely there will be some sort of sale before year end?

Cheap replacement blades should be easy to get, I got a box of Bosch variety pack from Amazon.

  • must be nearly time for an 18v aldi reciprocating saw to appear

  • I've got the Black and Decker battery powered pruning saw but I prefer to use this human powered one.

A nice Japanese "pull saw" is the way to go, a decent one will cut like hell (medium teeth), Bunnings used to have them for around $30!.

    • I concur - unless you have some physical reason requiring electric assistance, a decent pull-saw will probably be better overall.
Larger cutting capacity, no charging delay, cleaner cut and so on.
For the 25mm branches the electric mentions, it'll likely only take a few strokes and minimal effort.

Something like a Silky (medium tooth as above for optimum performance on wet and dry) can be had for about $50.
If you want to test it out, a knock off (Korean blade, Chinese handle) is less than $10 on eBay.

  • I'd recommend a Bahco 339-6T. I've cut so much with mine over the last decade yet it's still sharp.
