Flight booking which got transfer at LCY and LHR London

Hi guys,

I'm looking at a booking from iwantthatfly.com flying back from a Europe city to Melbourne
It got 2 stops:

  • First stop LCY (London city airport) and 4 hours later continues flying out but from LHR (counted as 1 stop)
  • 2nd stop is at Abu Dhabi before flying back to Melbourne.

Question is how would the move from LCY to LHR be done? By the traveller or by the airlines? (website has no info regarding this)
How far & easy to get to LHR from LCY?
Is there any immigration clearance needed? (Autralian passport holder)

Or this type of transfer should be avoid at all cost?

Thanks for reading.

Looks like you will need to clear customs and everything. Better just find a direct flight I say

LCY and LHR are about 100 kms apart.
Traveller will need to arrange the transfer…no airlines does it
Most likely you will need a visit visa as you have to leave the airport, drive through the entire city of London to get to Heathrow. Again this is your responsibility as a traveller to ensure you have a correct visa.

    In short…avoid this transfer type

More like 30km apart (as the crow flies) or 40km by road.

LCY is a nice little airport to fly into/out of, smaller planes, less people = less queues. But it will be a pain to transfer between LHR and LCY.

    Yeah, a solid nope.

It's possible but not in that time. I'd say 2 hours from LCY to LHR. Maybe you could do it if you RUSHED straight to Paddington and onto the Heathrow express. I assume it's BA into LCY and then Etihad to AUH then MEL. They don't code share and aren't waiting if you don't make it. How much are you saving here? It sounds like a stressful situation.

  • Which euro city is it?

    • It's Amsterdam

      • Looks like they've mixed and matched the cheapest fares available to get you home.

I think the transfer wouldn’t be worth the airfare savings.

  • I just did a flight from heathrow and gatwick - its a pain in the ass that I suggest you avoid. You will need to take an expensive taxi ($200) or a slow bus. Alternatively you could add one or two nights in London to your trip to make the flight less stressful. Australian passport does not require visa for UK, it was very easy to enter the country using an ePassport.

Thanks guys, look like it's a deal breaker!

  • I've heard of similar connections between Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita under a single airline booking. Apparently there's a shuttle, and it's doable within 3 hours? Sounds like a 3 hour panic attack to me.
Then again, I've made an international flight from Narita after arrived a mere 11 minutes before departure time due to a fallen train line. Lucky for me, the flight was delayed an entire 20 minutes, so they let me in.
