But, am unsure whether a TPG or Live Connected sim would work in it?

Live Connected uses the Optus network to from what I believe. So you wouldn't have to unlock it at all.
I am with TPG and I love em… Cheap, easy to setup/manage, reliable.
I've got a Liveconnected sim in an Optus locked phone and it works great.
I actually had the same question a while ago, seems like common sense now, but I couldn't find any definitive statements at the time.
yes, you can use either TPG or L.C in an optus locked phone.

Telstra: call 125 111
Three: call 133 320
Crazy John's: call 132 299
Optus: If you are with Optus, there is no need to unlock your phone.
Alternatively, you can visit the store in which you purchased the phone for assistance.
