Largest and Highest Volume Crypto Perpetual Contracts Exchange

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to know everybody’s opinion on which is currently the largest crypto perpetual contract exchange?

Also, going into the future which exchange will become the largest?

My understanding is Bitmex is currently the largest perpetual exchange.

Binance has just recently launched perpetuals. Given how large Binance is for underlying crypto, will they overtake Bitmex in the future?

Or are there other up and coming exchanges which has significant potential?

Many thanks all.

  • I fully agree that Bitmex is the largest, already the second year I trade on it, though not directly through the Terminal ( https://stocksharp.com/products/terminal ), but I can say that the most reliable. tried some more, periodically there are problems with connections and slows down work.

  • Bitmex is certainly the biggest for now. Deribit hit it's highest daily volume on Sep 25th reaching $1,000,000,000 traded over 24hrs.

Saying that Binance clearly has a long way to bridge that gap BUT betting against CZ or the Binance team has been a bad move at every chance the past 2 years. They really know how to deliver what the community wants and have built up great trust. In saying that Bitmex has the HUGE insurance fund protecting users as well as never experiencing a major hack, something the other larger exchanges cannot claim.

For me I find Bitmex matching engine a bit untrustworthy. The fee's really depend on how you're going to trade. If you trade smart the fees can be very low but if you're taking market orders and using liquidations as stops you're account is gonna get eaten up pretty quickly =D

Good luck with the trading! Let's hope Baakt volume picks up a bit =D

      Thanks for sharing your input.

So looks like there is no clear winner who would be the dominant exchange for perpetuals in the future.

The problem I have is each exchange does perpetuals slightly differently. This makes pricing not universal. Has anyone attempted to price perpetuals. Couldn’t find literature on this.

If you trade any kind of size, then Bitmex, obviously.

If you want hard facts and data just go ahead and skip this, but…

Something about CZ gives me the creeps, the signaling of how many women binance employs along with his tweets that are 50% reply guy type tweets and 50% crypto-esque fortune cookie prose.

I trust Arthur more than ASIC regulated FX brokers… I'd still only keep a small amount of my account on mex though.

Pseudonymity is pretty standard within cryptocurrency discussion.

      • Fair point.

Is there a problem with trading any kind of size on the other exchanges?

limit orders may not get filled and bad fill's on market orders. this slippage will have you taking on more risk than intended or have you trading smaller to offset that risk.
