Lines on Monitor Connected with VGA Cable

Hi,

So I've got a 2 monitor setup connected to my laptop.
Monitor 1 : Connected via HDMI
Monitor 2 : Connected via VGA

Both run on 1080p 60hz.

I've been noticing small horizontal lines flickering on Monitor 2. This can't be seen unless you look really close, I'm wondering if this has to do with the VGA cable.
Monitor 1 is perfectly fine.

Both monitors are 2 pin but since the laptop charger has 3rd pin earth cable, all the devices are earthed.

Looks to me like there seems to be some sort of interference causing this.

Bought this cable from Kmart few months back, was around $10. Do you think this has to do with the cable quality?

Any ideas?

  • Yep VGA is crap.

Chalk and cheese difference when I swapped from VGA to HDMI on the same setup.

    • Got no choice to connect 2 monitors. Only 2 output ports (1 vga, 1 hdmi)

      • what laptop ? see if any dock avail but would be expensive

  • Process of elimination - buy new cable. Not a difficult thing to do ;)

    • These cables are quite new, not even 6 months old

      • does monitor 1 has vga ? try vga on monitor 1

      • I think he means to buy a new higher quality cable. You can sorta judge the quality of the VGA cable by how thick it is.

Try also moving the VGA cable further away from other cables and electronic devices including the monitor itself. Long shot but it wouldn't hurt to try.

        You're right about the interference.

  • I experienced a similar issue at one stage, started getting weird lines of colour-cycling pixels along the on-screen UI.
Thought my graphics card was dying (6-7 year old desktop computer), after worrying & researching for awhile, decided to just re-plug the cable at both ends. Try doing it with both monitors.
    This solved the issue.

  • Try moving the VGA cable around/away from the power cable. Interference happens easily with these.

  • Is their an alternative to using VGA?
