Air for the low price of $23/Tonne

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Carbon Dioxide; it's essential for life and today it's priced at the amazing price of only $23 a tonne.

Sure we once lived in a rational country where we didn't tax air, but times have changed so stock up on CO2 at this red hot price.

Terms & Conditions: Price will increase in coming years, may destroy the economy and families and the "science" used to justify tax "may" be unproven.

  • Bahahhhahaaha

  • Not a bargain - I get my air free.

    • this is CO2 not O2

Maybe that poster is a tree.

    I'll buy 2 tonnes @ $23/tonne and shove it up gillard's ass

    • +2

The amount of shit that woman talks she has increase methane gas in AU by 1000%

    $23, not a bargain?!

    nice post haha

  • A bit worried about the postage. Being Federally funded, it may take some time to get mailed out.
However reminds me a bit of an sketch in "Sesame St " for us older ones. The muppet in a trenchcoat would walk up to Kermit and say
    "Pssst; you wanna buy some…air?"

  • +6

And here I was thinking this was a site where we could get away from bloody politics for two seconds…

"Terms & Conditions: Price will increase in coming years, may destroy the economy and families and the "science" used to justify tax "may" be unproven."

    Is that you Tony??

    • +4

You caught me. Make sure to watch me on Sunrise.

Can someone help…I don't like the deal, and do not want to purchase it.
However, I fear this organisation may already have my bank account details and will process the transaction anyway.
Any advice? I think they are a pretty shady organisation, I wish I never dealt with them in the first place.

    • "…I wish I never dealt with them in the first place."
similar sentiments here. hmm… i might move to the UK now, anyone know if it's easy? hope i don't get stopped before my boat reaches mainland UK!

  • -1

i thought this was for sending my stuff over air (plane). would have been cheap as the carbon dioxide i breathe out.

    Deceiving, just like carbon tax.

  • +7

I'm going to take this to officeworks for pricematch 5% off

    • OW: Sorry, we don't pricematch political hot air.

    • Careful they don't give you methane

    • -1

      1) Take a joke
      2) Pulling percertages from thin air, is that you Gillard?

      • Not one that's factually incorrect. The science is in and proven. Sorry I said 95%, it's 97%.

97% of those scientist are probably being paid by big political organisations i.e IPCC

        • 97% of those scientist are probably being paid by big political organisations i.e IPCC

I enjoy musing about conspiracy theories but please, we're to believe that a whopping 97% of scientists (and if not that, even the majority) have hidden agendas and have spent most of their lives researching and investing countless hours to analyse and produce data just to cater to political interests?

Sure the majority have been wrong before (flat earth) and no doubt will continue to be wrong on other issues in the future, but should we really take a chance on the idea that 'oh 97% of them must be wrong'…

    • -2

lol nice one! better stop breathing out that carbon dioxide then, you're hurting the environment.

    • -1

95% of all statistics are made up. Got any references to back up your claims?

    • +9

You forgot how many Australians agree that they want action on climate change, but want someone else to pay for it, and only want it if China and India do it first.

Besides, people on over $200k per household can't afford to pay a $1000 a year! They're mortgaged to the hilt on a property they couldn't really afford anyway - they're the new 'battlers'.

      • +1

        Lol

  • +5

we needed to do this at some stage. now is a good time. and no i dont hug trees, not the big ones anyway. :P

  • +1

You are all fools. if you sent all of the robots to the the galapagos and had them point their exhaust pipes directly at the sun, this would be a non issue and we could move on already and not have a price on carbon at all.

  • -3

It is all too late anyway - the world is doomed, might as well enjoy a life of consumption while you have a life.

  • +1

Can we pricematch this at Officeworks? Anyone got a receipt to upload?

    • Sorry mate it's in Officeworks Clearance list so you will never find stock!

    • +13

Here's my receipt. Sorry for the bad quality, took it with my cell phone:

  • Wonder how long this thread will last? :P

  • This is not the place for such crap, try your facebook wall.

  • +1

Dont know why……but i hear the theme music for Darth Vader.

  • Good to see you guys down vote anyone bringing actual facts, classy.

    • I am still not decided on my viewpoint considering I dont understand the science behind it, much like most people screaming out that we must do something.

97% of scientists agreeing that something is most likely is hardly an actual fact.

      just sayin'.

  • +10

Sigh, it's not air, it's paying for the pollution you create.

You want to pollute without consequence? Sure you do, but please recognise its your kids that will pay.

And in the meantime, can we delete this - it's not funny, it's not a bargain, it's b*ll*cks.

    • -5

My kids will also pay if the economy is destroyed. But nah let's focus on 1-2 degree temperature increase, that's the important issue right?

      • +13

Damage to the economy is reversible.

  • +5

the "science" pfft… flat earther alert

  • we can still export brown coal for others to burn but not use it ourselves?
    wtf

    • We still use it ourselves but it is taxed?

      • +3

I dont understand how they want to close down the biggest coal burning power plant we have because it pollutes too much. Yet its ok for us to ship that very same coal elsewhere and for others to burn it for the same purpose, tax free.
How can it be the filthiest polluter here but no worries, she'll be right mate if its burnt in another country?
Taxing it here and still allowing it to be exported makes no sense imo.

        • no worries, we know who will win the next election. just counting the day

        • Doesn't matter, Greens will still cointrol the senate, regardless of the next election, it's here to stay.

  • +2

Must be taking a lot of orders so I guess it will be ozbargained soon. Hopefully they honour the current orders.

    • +1

I sense this will be "Hutted" or "Zaviied" and we will get an email tomorrow saying the price is actually three times as much, but here is a voucher for 10% off…

  • +10

Does this remind anyone of Sim City?

If you increase taxes, your approval rating is poor, but you don't seem to get as many natural disasters.
Decrease taxes, and your approval rating increases, but you seem to get more tornadoes and earthquakes.

And in WA, it's even more realistic, because we just spent the $3000 on the stadium.

I'm going to crank up my Commodore 64 and see how this all ends!

  • +2

$23 / tonne is really cheap for shipping alone
    BARGAIN!

  • +2

Funny, but equally ignorant. In any case this is not the place for your political grandstanding. Whilst I'm happy to debate the merits of the carbon tax with you, the forum is a more appropriate venue. Mods can we get this removed please, or can we all start spamming the site with our personal views?

  • +1

Can I order one tonne packed into soda bulbs? $23 should get me a lot of them

    • I sense mischief is afoot..

  • +7

Most of these comments here are too painfully stupid to be amusing…

  • no worries, labor just nail their own coffin.
carbon tax increase inflation, no way accc can keep the price still the same.
direct or indirect, manufacture or small business will have to adjust their cost from the increase electricity or gas or petrol.
then inflation increase at the same time as mining boom still exist then rba have to increase the interest rate to control the inflation then pressure to the household then the election then liberal won the next election.
it is simple, only a matter of time.
    end of story

  • +1

new tax since labor back in power:
    1. resource tax
    2. Queensland flood levy (sorry, I have already paid my part by donate my money to the charity, then i have to pay this tax as well, but they called it levy, same shit different name). seriously, that area shouldn't be allow for people to live there in the first place since the first flood happen, and this is another mismanagement from labor government in Queensland at that time.
    3. carbon tax
    4. i am guessing if nbn cost is blow up, i should pay levy/tax in the future as well.

i just hate people that not loyal to their leader and back stab their own mate.

i just love coles slogan now, down down. i mean down labor, green and independent that support this stupid tax.

    • number 4 will be the new Information Services Tax. A user pays system based on your net usage. $0.023 per gigabyte.
The same tax model will then be used for maintaining our public roads taxing drivers based on the distance they travel. Also $0.023 per kilometre.

      • +1

i prefer spend another 20-30 million to get election now to get rid off this carbon mafia.

        • +1

you know it makes no difference who's in power, they gonna intro. one tax or another. who bought in the GST.

politician are all bunch of liars, it's just a matter of "lesser of the evil"

  • let's make some other airlines go bankrupt as well
    http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/travel/news/virgin-australi…

    • +1

      Haha airlines whining.
Apart from the fact that it only affects domestic routes that only Australian airlines can fly. So, so much for unequal playing fields.

      • Maybe, maybe not, an international carrier is exempt from the tax, so if they carry domestic passengers on an internal flight. eg Land in Sydney then fly on to Melb, with some domestic passengers, which they can do. then they dont pay the tax.

Plus domestic flights have been subsidising international fares of late.

But how much this will be competition, only time will tell

        • +1

I never knew that you could book a domestic flight with an international carrier…

  • Anyone confused with this "tax". I have no idea how much they are raising and how much they are giving back, as they have now hidden this with the Tax cut that they told us in May (budget) that they couldn't afford then.

So are they just conning us, by bundling it with a tax cut, to make us believe we are better off?. And given that the tax cut doesn't come into effect until 2012. All they have done is brought forward a tax cut they had been saving for the election year budget.

And the Greens say its tougher than the old Rudd ETS, so how can it be tougher and easier at the same time?

It looks like another classic Labor Spin Job.

    • do u really think this wouldn't happen if the other party is in power?!?
it happens either way, it's just one lie after another.
we get screw one way or the another….

      • i guess part of this is the fault of the australian voters

if wehad voted one party by a majoirty, we prolly wont have this issue of greens playing a large role in deciding this carbon tax

the PM wouldn't have been this harsh in its carbon tax policy if it didn't have to be run through the greens and indpendents (she will lose the election next time cause of this!)

and if liberals had a majority who knows what they would do

  • the below couple doesn't aware what other cost associate that they will bear when this tax kick start next month, they must be in lala land thinking that $773 will be covering their living cost next month.

    CARBON TAX
    Households ($50k - $100k)
Name: Nicos Rodosthenous. Married to Briony, 39, with two children, Samadhi, 3 and Indahla, 23 months
    Age: 40
    Income: $60,000 (household)
How will your income impacted by the carbon tax?
Going by the Federal Government's household assistance estimator, we will be at least $274 better off. While the cost of living will increase by $499 a year, or $10 a week, we will get Government assistance of about $773, made up of about $245 extra in payments and $528 in tax cuts.
Will you have to change your lifestyle in any way?
I'm certainly willing to change my lifestyle to accommodate the change in price for energy and food production. We're renovating the house with a green building designer to make it more energy-efficient. We have bought new appliances that use less electricity and we're looking at better ways to heat and cool the home.
Overall, is the tax a good or bad initiative?
From my point of view it sounds like a pretty good thing. It's definitely something I think has been needed for a while. We're trying to reduce our energy use anyway. My only concern is the way it is managed. If it does actually encourage these big companies to decrease their pollution, as it is supposed to, if it does that then it seems to be a pretty good thing. So on the surface, from the sounds of things, it seems like a pretty good idea.
