Using Amazon Prime Free Trial to Place Pre-Order over 30 Days in Advance

Had a quick question re: placing a pre-order for a game using a Prime free trial and then cancelling it straight away so that I don't get charged for the subscription at the end of the month. Usually this would be fine for most orders however the release date is well after my subscription would end.

In this scenario, would I still get free expedited delivery as I technically had Prime when the order was placed (however I wouldn't have it anymore when it was actually being fulfilled)?

I'm having trouble wording it so will just put down my scenario:

  • I have the $20 amazon voucher via maccas monopoly, which is for new accounts only.

  • I want to pre-order The Last of Us Pt 2, which releases Feb 21st.

  • I create new Amazon account, sign up for prime free trial for just 30 days and place my pre-order within that time.

  • Prime trial expires, however have already made an order while still being with prime. Would I still be getting expedited delivery on Feb 21?

Appreciate you reading this far, would greatly appreciate any info.

    Should work.
    I’ve done something similar:
    * Had an active Prime membership.
    * Pre-odered a game from Amazon US via Amazon AU (free shipping since it’s more than $49)
    * Prime membership lapsed before release date.
    * Still got free international shipping with the preorder.

    Yes

  • Like most trial, i assume prime trial will still give you the full length of the trial period. You should be able to confirm this in your Amazon account.

    • It will definitely give me the remaining 29 days if I cancelled it the day I made the account, however my question was asking how that would affect any orders which were placed while I had Prime but would only get fulfilled after I no longer had it. (eg. placing pre-order in September when the order itself would only get fulfilled in February the next year)

      • Live chat with amazon and ask? Just say you're not sure if you'd keep the trial.

I would say, assuming that order is not automatically cancelled by Amazon due to prolonged delay of fulfilling, Amazon will still fulfil the order based on the condition of the original order.

  • Thanks for the responses, will give it a go. Fingers crossed there's no issues.

Now just need to find ways to pass the time until late Feb…

  • Amazon Prime is well worth the $7/month, consider keeping it active. Even if you don't buy stuff from Amazon very often, prime video, reading and music is pretty great for 7 bucks a month.

I definitely agree with that, probably didn't make it clear in my post but I already do have a main Amazon account with prime.

It's just that I got a $20 Amazon voucher which can only be used on new accounts, hence why I was looking into creating a fresh account and combining it with the 1month free prime trial.
