Driving Tips ?

Hello Strangers

Just wondering what does everyone think about such situations ? View of oncoming traffic is blocked by the parked vehicles. It happens very frequently where I live. Not that I have an issue with this particular intersection, but I find such parking very common and narrowly escaped an accident today.

Screenshot attached to explain things better.

Would appreciate any tips.

Edit: Sometimes the vehicles are parked semi road and on the nature strip

Edit 2: Thank you, I generally try to inch slowly. On the particular day, view from both left and right was obstructed. On the right side I was still able to see a bit so I entered the road, but the left side was not visible until I was almost 25% into the road (sedan with a longer body). Then there was oncoming traffic from the right and I was a duck sitting in the middle of the road, so I tried to rush before the traffic on left. I was totally at fault and thanks to the quick reflexes of the other driver, was able to avoid a collusion. Just wanted to understand:
1) how I can handle it better
2) Is it legal for cars to obstruct the view? It is just so common where I live, so I was unsure.

Basically just a matter of moving out slowly until you get a view of what traffic is approaching, and then proceed as normal.

      That’s too much common sense.

    • Haha, thank you. Yes, this has been my normal approach. Apologies for not providing complete information initially.

Illegally parked. I don’t particularly care when cars break the rule about not parking on the nature strip, or partially parking in the road/nature strip or blocking their own, or friends driveway etc. I do care when they block the footpath or block the view of oncoming traffic and would report to local council.

  • Where's my jet pack?

    • Over there by the Moon base, the underwater cities, your personal robots and the new global ice age. :)

  • Lol.

This is, like, every 3rd street in a big city. The cars aren't illegally parked in the city … there just isn't any visibility.

As Bourb said, it's just a matter of moving out slowly. It's one of the first things that a good driving instructor will teach you.

    • Did you check the photo? It's definitely illegal to park there.

    • Noted to inch out slowly. Seeing how common this is, I was curious about the legality of such parking.

  • Short term you have to be careful.

Long term, if you can be bothered, report it to council.

Where I live, poor sight lines are normal. You just have to be careful and courteous.

  • mount the curb, smash the van into the property and then turn

  • In residential areas you will always find cars parked in odd places along with caravans, jetskis, trailers, etc…
You will also encounter kids running out onto roads, dogs and cats wandering onto roads, joggers staring at their phones crossing roads, crap that fell off tradie utes, etc etc etc…
The only cure… and it is the same one that has worked since the beginning of time… drive to conditions.
Put away the urge to do the entitled 20k over that most do these days and suffer driving sensibly until you are out onto main roads again.

As mentioned by many members. 1. Report to council. Front of van looks to be blocking footpath. Illegally parked. 2. Drive to conditions. Inch out slowly to ensure no oncoming traffic.

  • Stick to the left as much as possible, when you get a better view, move to take over the parked car.

That van is illegally parked. You have to be 10m from the corner of the curb.

Just continue at the speed limit without looking, it's what everyone else does.

    • Don't forget to apply handbrake for maximum drift.

wind down the windows and listen for anythings coming
you would be f*^#%d if it is an electric vehicle
    also, just inch ahead slowly
unless u r really fast and just go like a bat out of hell
report the van to the council
he can't keep blocking traffic like that
if you get pulled over by the cops
show them that picture and ask for his/her advice
hopefully they will forget why they pulled you over
and let you go, you never know your luck

Honk your horn before and as you turn to warn drivers on the T-section.
