It'll certainly be a "tropical" getaway at that time of the year.

    • Literally the worst time to come hahahah. You'd think if they wanted to promote it, they'd do May/June.

      • Most likely the idea of a public servant who moved to Darwin five minutes ago.

        • Seems like they're trying to promote the Bruce Munro light thing. Still, they're gonna feel so gross from the building looking at the lights and probably have a bad sentiment. Or, it'll rain for the whole time they're here and they won't be able to go anywhere.

          • @hawkers89: Northern Territory Government logic: "Bruce Munro worked for Uluru tourism so he'll work for Darwin tourism."

            Ignoring the fact that:

            Good luck to whoever wins.

            • @Pantagonist: Haha just NTG things.

I told my friends to enter anyway so they can visit me.

  • That ABC article does not suggest climate change is to blame for the heat in Darwin's CBD > "…. when temperatures of more than 32 degrees coupled with humidity above 80 per cent. These conditions aren't uncommon during the sweaty build-up months." Suggests instead that this is more to do with the amount of asphalt in the city (lack of greenery) than anything else. Bad design choices by the NTG and/or council.

…coupled with the effects of climate change.

Which is why the NT Government commissioned the heat mitigation study to begin with.

      • Interesting, but not super imminent. A CSIRO estimate from 2014 puts warming predictions in the Top End at 1 degree by 2030, and 3.5 by 2070. The NTG needs some mitigation strategies that extend beyond greening up the CBD.
