    They've price matched Catch.

Alternatively, remake of a classic for a new generation.

    • +18

Why are you so against the dairy industry?

    • +3

I'm loving it tbh. One of the finest 2D games of all time with the biggest problem (horrible controls) fixed.

      • +1

you ever play double dragon 2 or 3? now thats bad controls

      • Me too, just wish it was more smoother, frame rate is shocking.

        • Yeah. Really surprised Nintendo shipped it with these drops.

    • Looks great to me. I never played the original, but this is obviously not just a quick and dirty rehash of an old title.

  • +2

Damn… just bought $68 this morning.

    • +18

Purchase off amazon, return the sealed copy for refund. Then go to the $1 store and spend up big.

      • While I get you were not serious are the games ever sealed anymore? The one I got from Amazon wasn't.

        • I just bought a Switch the other day and my copy of Mario Odyssey was sealed.

        • Most of them are not sealed. I got this game (zelda) delivered this morning and it was not sealed. Neither was astral chain (day 1), so it's not like they are returned items sent out again as some people think. I'm pretty sure my copy of Mario oddysey was sealed as commenter above said. And I think my copy of breath of the wild was also sealed. I have a few others that were also not sealed.

          • +3

@Shaun Prawn: Day 1 release of 1st party games doesn't come sealed.

          • @Shaun Prawn: I bought mario maker 2 from amazon a few days ago and it was not sealed (but looked brand new).

      • +1

Returning costs $7 shipping. Know from experience :(

  • Is the $1 refund going to mess up my Shopback Cashback???

    • It'll just be recalculated less a dollar I believe

  • +2

    Thanks OP
    Great game btw

  • -2

This isn't much game for 70 bucks, it's all over in around 10 hours, taking your time.

    • You really have no idea what you're talking about do you? I played the original and took me 16 hours. This also includes the Chamber Dungeons mode. So add another 5 hours there.

      • -1

more like add another 5 min. You play the same chambers just in a different order hows that insteresting

      • +1

I beat the original on Gameboy a few times as a kid, and then just replayed it on my phone recently, took me about 10 sessions of 45 minutes to an hour each.

I don't hunt for heart pieces, and I remembered where to go for trading, maybe that helps me be a bit quicker?

I haven't played the remake, but read that it was a complete reproduction. A reviewer said they took 8 hours to beat the game too.

        • Have you played cadence of hyrule?

        • 10 hours to just do a speed run through the story is still quite a lot of content. A lot of time spent in zelda is getting lost and doing random side quests and collecting random shit.

          • @keishton: That's not a speed Run, that's normal pottering around in the right general direction. And that's what I mean, This game is quite linear, and there IS no side content to get lost with, for the original at least. I haven't read the reviewers mention anything being added apart from replaying dungeon rooms.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but I just think 70 is a bit rich for what it is.

            • @Tunblor: I read a reviewer saying that he had to watch a video of the Gameboy version guide because he thought that he had forgotten how to get through the game midway through but it turned out that he hadn't, Nintendo had just changed it up in places. I think that was kotaku.

              • @[Deactivated]: As I said before, some people don't know what they're talking about. Just pure ignorance. I'm pretty far in the Switch version of the game, a bit more than half way and already 15 hours.

New changes from original that will extend game time:
                + 12 more heart pieces
+ Double the amount of secret seashells, more rewards
                + New Mario collectibles
+ Colour dungeon is back from DX
+ Chamber dungeons, heaps of unlocks here (people who say 5 minutes again are drowning in ignorance)

So there you have it. If you want to 100%, not rush the game and not miss the details then there's heaps of content.

    • +2

      Quantity over quality, eh?

      • -4

        Por que no los dos?

70 bucks is a lot of money for a game, look at what you could get for that: Stardew Valley, Breath of the Wild, Witcher 3, Civ 6, 5 months of Humble Monthly subscription…

This is poor value. It's not even that great a Zelda game, Id prefer to play Link to the Past, Majora's mask, Ocarina of time, etc.

        • +2

Actually, $70 isn’t a lot for a game in my opinion, especially considering we were paying $120 for N64 games over two decades ago.

Some of my most memorable gaming experiences have been with games that had <10 hour campaigns. I don’t subscribe to the $ per hour of gameplay value model that you do. I also don’t think to myself, “what else could I get for $70?”. No, if there’s a game I want, I buy it. And if cash is such a concern, with this being a Zelda game, you could easily sell it in a months time with minimal loss.

Link’s Awakening is not even that great? Sure thing, that’s your opinion. A lot of people would disagree.

          • -1

@aja12: I didn't say it wasn't a great game, I said it wasn't that great a Zelda game: tell us what it's rank is among Zelda games on Metacritic?

            • +2

@Tunblor: Meta? Meta has it about mid pack, ahead of 10 other Zelda games. Some places rank it quite high, some not so much. It’s a great Zelda game. If you think it’s price is too high and you won’t be buying it, that’s completely your choice. But you’ve dropped seven comments in this thread alone, so you seem very interested in a game you’re not buying? Or are you just trying to convince others to feel the same that you do?

              • @aja12: I'm having a discussion, and offering a different perspective to all the other comments saying buy it, in my opinion someone on the fence might want perspective and a bit more than unquestioning fervour.

                • +1

@Tunblor: Your perspective is different to all of the others that is for sure.

    • +3

So should all game prices be adjusted based on how long it takes to finish them? Should a 3 hour film ticket cost twice a 90 minute film?

      • I'm not talking about films, I'm talking about games though, in my mind the value proposition is different.

So, for games, I don't think it's a hard rule that must be applied in all situations for all folks, but to me the amount of enjoyable play that can come from it is something that should definitely be taken into account. Does that not make sense?

        • +2

What doesn't make sense is judging all games' values on their length. Modern games are notorious for adding stylish artificial game lengtheners that don't add any substance to the game, but pad it out to make it feel longer (e.g. driving in linear open world games, puzzles to unlock doors or boxes, etc).

RPGs make you grind to level up and lengthen the experience without actually adding to the experience and becoming quite repetitive.

For me the Sweet spot for most games is 8-10 hours of well paced gameplay before the loop becomes repetitive or obnoxious and before the story starts to fizzle out if it is a story driven experience.

I've finished a few 30+ hour titles in my time, but they tend to not hold my attention due to the aforementioned reasons and I get bored after the initial 10 hours. Exceptions for this have been South Park: Fractured But Whole (gameplay felt dynamic enough to be different the whole way through and no fight felt unnecessary), LA Noire (skipped the driving segments and was captivated enough by the story to see it through), Breath of the Wild (it's honestly the greatest game I've ever played. Couldn't put it down) and Pokemon (social conditioning from being a kid and only having Pokemon games to play, therefore accustom to the expectations).

10 hours for a top down Zelda game with limited choice over how to approach each puzzle or battle seems like more than plenty for my tastes.

          • @Faro: You have made the points that games that artificially pad their length are not worth more (to you, and I agree; Some people love collecting things and fetch quests though) and that your sweet spot for a game is 8-10 hours, for both gameplay and story longevity.

But then you list 4 exceptions, one being the greatest game you've ever played, the most modern Zelda, which is currently the same price as Links Awakening, and the 3 others that are all on Switch as well, and much cheaper than Links awakening.

They are all modern (with more sophisticated design choices with fewer technical limitations) games, with a lot more content, and they therefore present better value.

If you don't like artificial length padding, then why are you defending the remake of a 1993 8-bit game being "good value" at $70?

            • +1

@Tunblor: Because it's a first party Nintendo game and therefore unlikely to ever drop in price. Especially considering the early momentum and reviews it has received.

For me, traditional Zelda games are boring, therefore it's a personal preference that 10 hours would be more than enough for that style of game imo.

  • +1

If you prefer digital, this title can be redeemed with a Nintendo Online voucher, which works out to be $67.50. Even cheaper if you still have discounted eShop cards left from the last promo.

    • I did exactly that. Not bad for $67.47 digital! I’ll probably use my 2nd voucher for Luigi’s Mansion 3.
Playing it through now - my very first experience of Link’s Awakening (my one Zelda gap). Apart from frame rate issues for tv mode in the overworld…this game is adorable. So charming, and the reorchestrated music alone is phenomenal.

    • +1

Ooh good tip. Could get this and fire emblem for 67.50 each - should I bite the bullet?

      • +1

Just bite, it's Nintendo AAA games.

        Totally worth it.

      • +3

Why not just buy the physical edition, then either re-sell, or trade-in for more $$ for your next game?

        • +1

Funny you should say that, I traded in this particular game on Gameboy when I was young, I regretted it so badly I will never trade in a game again.

          • +1

@Tunblor: I never replay single-player games. Once I've played through the story, I remember it. So, for me, it makes sense to trade it back in for credit. I've saved a shit-ton of money over the years by doing that. Like, I might pay 68$ for a new switch game, then in a week or two, I'll trade it back for 30$ (depending on the game) worth of credit to put it towards a new game. I bought diablo 3 for switch for like 55$ when it was released, then traded it back for 40$ credit. I played 50 hours on it, and it only ended up costing me 15$ once all was said and done.

I've just never understood the need to horde the physical copies of these games. But that's just me growing up poor :P

            • @Stormourne: That's fair enough! I traded Links Awakening DX, Pokemon Yellow, Metroid 2, Mario Land 2, and something else; didn't even get a good deal on them! Then sure enough, not right away, maybe a year or two later, I wanted to play them again, and I couldnt. I couldn't buy them back from anywhere either, they cost a fortune online and nowhere sold Gameboy games.

              • @Tunblor:

Ok, fair enough. But 5 hours later you write…

I traded Links Awakening DX, Pokemon Yellow, Metroid 2, Mario Land 2…Then sure enough, not right away, maybe a year or two later, I wanted to play them again, and I couldnt.

                You’re a strange dude.

                • @aja12: Nah that was some other dude I replied to, not me. I replay single player games like mad.

        • For Switch, I made a decision to finally go all digital. Other than Breath of the Wild, Odyssey, and Smash, where I just got a few marquee games in physical form, everything else is digital. I travel a fair bit, and I just didn’t want to do the DS/3DS constant cartridge swap, no matter how small they are.
..and I tend to always keep every Nintendo AAA game I buy :)

    • +1

I just sold a bunch of unplayed switch games on eBay. They mostly went for $55+. They hold so much value that it doesn't make sense to buy digital.

    • -1

Nintendo eshop has no place on Ozbargain lol, total rip off compared to a 'real' bargain. Woohoo 20% off already inflated prices, games release 2 years ago still full RRP!

TBH I'm not sure why this even qualifies, so its the lowest price but ain't exactly a bargain when you can walk out of JB with this for 69 bucks

  • i didnt even know they remade this?! i still remembering getting this when it first came out on the original black & white/green & green gameboy! still one of my most favorite games ever. such a cute little game.

  • -1

I'm excited looking if I can find it $1 cheaper and issue the great bargain here !

    • +4

$61.99 at Costco - only had the one copy when I was there though

      • +1

        which Costco?

        • I got mine at Moorabbin but suspect all. There were multiple copies left.

          • @pw2002au: Can confirm as well. Bought two copies from Costco Bundamba in QLD. $61.99!

        • @Bargain321 - Canberra

  • -3

I love Nintendo games, but between my free games on the Epic Store, Xbox Game Pass, my Steam backlog and Nintendo including SNES games with Nintendo Online, I just can't justify paying so much money for this. I'm having quality games thrown at me left and right and I just can't justify spending this money on anything but my most anticipated games.

    • +3

      Good to know.

      • -1

        Glad to help.

    • -1

I'm 100% with you, how people on a bargain website can neg this obvious truth, confuses me no end!

There just isn't enough content here to justify a AAA price.

      • +1

Don't be confused mate. It's just people reasoning emotionally. They're excited for this game and they want other people to be as well. I'm sure others feel the same as me but I'm only torn about not buying this because I am a Nintendo fan, so if it was a lower price I'd probably buy it.

        • +1

Yeah makes sense! This one will be re-released as a Nintendo selects title or similar I reckon, 30-40 bucks sounds about right for this title.

  • +1

Started playing last night. Worth if you like Zelda, but do remember that it's a remake.

Hero mode means you just respawn where you die. Doesn't make it much harder except for screens with difficult enemies.

Tilt shift is annoying so i hope that a mod can remove it one day

    • a mod for a switch game?
      you do belong in forums.

      • -3

Look up breath of the wild mods

        • +4

Those aren't on paid versions, are they though?

          • @Tunblor: The temple mod is on cemu only i think. I know there are now 60 fps mods that work on switch that you can apply to paid games

  • +1

Lovely game, bought digital via the Nintendo tokens.

Having a blast with son as we are playing side by side two switches with the one game install on both consoles.

    It works 😁

  • +2

It's a great time for gamers who are nostalgia junkies.

  • Awesome game.

  • I'm normally into high end gpu intensive like on PS4 or PC, never play Zelda game, except 1hr of breathe of the wild, anyway I'm loving this game, it's fun and enjoyable, proof that good games does not have to be graphic intensive. Also love the facts that it let you save the game at anytime.

    • Broken English aside, did you genuinely believe games with lesser graphics were worse games?

I thought that was only a thing kids said in playgrounds to show off how much money their parents had to buy them a flashy new console

  • just realised there was a limited edition version which is now all sold out and being sold for highly inflated prices on ebay etc :(

  • Thanks OP. Pulled the trigger with $10 off app offer and $2 bonus ShopBack.
