    So tempting.

    • +1

It’s not always about the specs but most importantly what cells these power banks were built with, haven’t owned one of these as yet but would like to find out if anyone knows?

      • +2

They use Li-Po flat cells instead of the 18650 cells we're used to in these power bricks. Can't tell you if they're as good or long lasting. I know 18650 cells have the best energy density and owning 2 Xiaomi 20,000's using 18650 cells I know they have great longevity, probably more than my phones which use Li-Po… Should still be pretty good though? Someone more knowledgeable than me could step in.

        • +1

I'm not a regular user of power banks - only really while travelling - had a romoss 10000ah battery I got from msy several years ago which still works well but bought several of the ones listed in all sizes recently…handy to leave on the coffee table, etc. So far they are solid, well made and provide a good few charges of phones and other devices. I can't compare to other brands, though these are way better than the old 18650 single cell chargers I had. the 10000mah new model is very compact too so handy for in a jacket pocket, etc.

  • +3

Got one during the last deal and I am super happy with it. Thanks, OP. : )

    • How long does it take to fully charge when empty?

      • +3

It only takes 11 hours to fully recharge the 30,000mAh power bank with a 18W wall charger.

      • +2

It only takes 11 hours to fully recharge the 30,000mAh power bank with a 18W wall charger.

        edit. too slow.

        edit. absolute unit. 671 grams.

  • +5

What a brick at that size I'm not sure you can consider it portable any more

    • +1

Looks quite huge but I'm guessing it's not meant to be your day to day power bank - mainly for a short trip etc.

  • +6

I just love the fact you need permission from airlines to take it on flights!

    • +1

An email to Qantas gives you permission for a whole year ;)

      • Is that true? That's pretty cool actually.

        • +1

People have reported it in previous deals.

          • @Clear: Would have been handy when I was catching 2 Qantas flights a week in my last role. I only had my 20,000 mAh's so it was no problem.

    • +1

Can we declare it during online check-in (for both Qantas and Virgin) or it needs to be over counter check-in? Anyone has experience?

  • Where do they come up with the names? Sense8+? I want to know.

    • +12

Nobody knows but it's provocative! Get's the people going!

    • +5

Probably not related, but Sense8 was a pretty good Netflix show.

  • a pity the 20000 model doesnt have fast charging
the 30000 model is a bit heavy for me

    good price though

  • Can I charge a MacBook Pro through the USB C port? And the USB 2 port is equivalent output to an official Apple fast charging wall adapter for the iPhone?

    • +5

You can slowly charge a MacBook but only if it’s switched off. If you try and use the MB whilst charging the battery will continue to drain.

  • +4

Finally, my Atari Lynx will last many more hours of play.

    • That's a blast from the past. Didn't realise it was the first colour handheld console, in your face Switch.

      • I'm just rebuilding a Lynx, this battery pack might come in handy after I've finished modding it.
The Sega Nomad also connected to the TV, it was the Switch before the Switch.

  • the model I wanted isn't on sale…

    • +2

What model do you want to be on sale? ;)

      • +7

        AU-SW20+
I don't need a giant 30000mAh power bank so I prefer this one, also has QC and the cool display digit.

        • Agree! Looking for a 20kmAh that works with the Switch

          • +5

            @betoyg:

            20kmAh

            That's SI prefix abuse

            • +1

@m9: Or maybe he is running a scooter or hoverboard and getting amazing range.

            • @m9: 20Ah.

      • +1

        26,800mah

        • +1

          Seconded

  • Woukd this charge a surface book 2?

    • Itll charge anything. Just at 18w though, so you probably cant have it turned on at the same time.

      • Kantakahashi below says it wont… very strange.

    • How can this charge a surface? The surface needs the power pack to charge, there is no USB charging option…

      • That wasn't a referral link… but anyway. As I was saying. it works with the Xiaomi 20,000mAh models with 45w powerbank.

Go onto google and search USB C to Surface power adapter - It will come up on Amazon. This is the one I use.

"USB C Type C Power Supply Charger Adapter Charging Cable Cord for Microsoft Surface Pro 6/54/3 150cm "

    • In my experience with the 20,000mAH model, it could not power or charge the surface. I switched to the Xiaomi model and it works perfectly. This is still a great power bank for emergency use.

  • FYI, can't be used to charge a huawei matebook. Great for phones though

    • Are you sure? I'd bet it would, if the device is turned off. If you use when it's running, itll extend battery life, but wont charge it. Need a 45w version… not sure many exist in this format.

      • Used it when the battery was low and got bombarded with "your battery is low" notifications which made the laptop unusable.

Have tested it using the following cables:

Huawei type-c to type-c (45w): It works for a short moment, then stops charging. (2-3 mins of charging)
Google pixel type-c to type-c: Same deal as the Huawei cable. (fast charges works wonders for my pixel 2)
Blitzwolf USB to type-c: The most success so far, it seems to remain on for more than 30 mins.

Haven't tested it powered down, but get the feeling it'll work as you said.

        • That's pretty much my experience. I didn't bother trying other cables though. I also found that when my laptop is on, a low power source like this does extend the life. But… as you found it's horrible at 10%, and unless you want to create custom powerplans, the laptop ramps up power usage when plugged in,making the situation even worse.

Turn it off, plug it in, it'll charge. Find a 45w version, it'll do what you need!

  • +1

Got fast charge on the 20000mAh one?

  • It's selling only for 27 AUD in china.

    • Presumably not AUD in China 👀

      • Might as well be free, seeing as power banks are tricky to send to oz sometimes.

  • Thanks OP. Ordered.

  • Weight: ~671g

    • +2

Or perhaps 224g/Ah is another useful metric

  • Can't charge my surface laptop even when it's off, thought i could replace my old xiaomi 20k with this, but now i have to carry both lol.

  • Has anyone used one of these to charge the Nintendo Switch? I would be interested in the 20k or 30k

    • On the Amazon page, a review says that it worked on their switch.

      • 20k definitely charges my Switch.

  • Does the 20,000mah battery bank use 18650 cells like the older model here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv9ZRJj0og0

If they do then it's $3 per 2500mah 18650 cell. Bargain!

    • Li-po on the 30000…

      • +1

Looks like flat cells on the newer 20,000mah ones too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWDB1iGSDPo

Still, that's 34c/wh, less than 1/2 the price of hobbyking's cheapest lipo cells. A real bargain if you don't need high drain.

        • Is it just the cell on this that limits the drain? I get that's the major limiting factor, but I'd imagine the charging output circuit has something to do with it. You'll probably find the cell itself supports a greater draw than the device total.

          • +1

@Robc: You're completely right - you'd chuck the circuit and get a BMS from ebay and series a few cells for the voltage you need.

Without any evidence otherwise, for safety's sake, I'd stay below (edited/revised to lower number) 0.5c charge and discharge for these cells. They might be able to handle significantly more but lipo's get grumpy when abused. 0.5c is 5 amps per cell if it's a 20ah 1S2P dual cell pack like in the second video above.

            • +2

@bm: So to show how good value these batteries are, to compare:

              Tesla PowerWall 2: 14kwh, $10,000

              Romoss 20,000mah PowerBricksCableTiedToAWallSomewhere: 190 needed, 14kwh, $4560

  • I got one in the last sale and am very happy with it. Don't use it super often, but have only needed to recharge it once. Be aware that this thing is a monster at 2/3rds the weight of a Macbook though, so just be aware of that. Certainly not a simple, portable solution - but definitely a great backup.

    Are these allowed on planes?

    • +2

      It's in the post.

      • +5

Sorry, I should have scrolled further. I deserve to be shamed.

      • Q&A
Is the 30000mAh allowed to be taken on planes since it's over 100Wh?
Yes with airline permission as it's under 160Wh:

        Now that's a nice touch!

  • Grabbing another can't have enough power these are great cheers

  • +1

I bought the Romoss Sense 8+ 30000mAh Power Bank a few weeks ago, happy with the product in general.

Now, I recognise this is a rare use case but for the few out there… I bought it as a UPS for my Raspberry Pi because of the Passthrough charging.

Unfortunately when the power fails the Raspberry Pi reboots.
    Not sure why.
So in my experience, not good as a UPS for Pi.

    • I think that's the case with Xiaomi as well. I tried powering my raspberry pi but it's not active charging. After a few minutes it just shuts off. Even when I charge my Bluetooth headphones (jaybird freedom), it starts charging then cuts off after a few mins. But phone, not a problem stay on charge.

    • +1

I've found with most of them, even if they support passthrough charging they "blip" the power when it switches from being charged to discharging.

      I ended up using a dumber circuit : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32969695165.html
      or for a single 18650: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32841386302.html

Can confirm these provide continuous power no matter what you do with the input power feed and are a bargain.

Exactly what I need, thank you.

Hi rep, any discount for this model? https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07H3RRZXT

    • second this,
would definitely buy if it's on sale

    • +1

Yes. Would buy this one too. Exactly what I need.
So, Rep - can you do a discount on this?

    • +1

      Was $28 last time.

    • Hi rep, any discount for this model? https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07H3RRZXT

Clear - any chance of getting an Ozbargain deal on this?

  • Still waiting for the 50000mah powerbank to be released.

    • Anker Powerhouse 200.

  • Using this unit to charge my phone right now. Last weeks without needing to be recharged.

Flew to the US last week and had no issues getting it on the plane in hand luggage.

Fast charging works great with iPhone and iPad. Works perfectly with my Switch as well.

Yes it’s on the larger side but it’s worth the weight for the amount of power you get out of a single charge.

  • Is there a Romoss model that delivers at least 30w? I want to replace my Cygnett which can charge a MacBook Pro.

    • -3

      Type-C Output: 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A (18W USB-PD)
      Blue USB Output: 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A (QC3.0/Samsung AFC/Huawei FCP/MTK PE)
      White USB Output: 5V/2.1A

We already have six power 🏦. Should we buy another one?

    • yes

  • Is this a silly question or not?
Given the Romoss Sense 8+ output can be shared over several devices at the same time, can the Romoss safely receive charge from several chargers at the same time?

    • No it won't.

  • I am gonna ask a silly question, how do I charge the power bank?

    • Has 3 different inputs. Micro USB, USB-C or Lightning.

Fastest way to recharge is with QC3 or USB-PD charger.

      • Right. So it is fine to charge via USB type C?

        • Yes. I'd recommend it.
