Kogan First 14 Day Trial ($99/Year Thereafter) @ Kogan

266

Mods - this is not a joke post, it's 100% real, but I daresay it will be mostly for entertainment purposes only.

Kogan are giving subscribers 14 days of free access to their Kogan First program which they advertise with "As a Kogan First member, you’ll get free delivery on 1000s of eligible products, upgrades to express shipping at no extra cost* and enjoy priority customer service." The funny part is after the trial ends you pay $99 a year for the privilege. Full T&Cs here.

Please feel free to share your comments below, I shall enjoy reading what people have to say (and if this deal attracts enough downvotes to put it below zero).

Thanks for sharing! The RGB keyboards are all down to $39 again so might be a good use of the trial if someone was looking. Shipping is express too.

      Kogan branded ones tho

  • +1

    lol…

  • +7

    $99 eh?

…but…they're giving a free video and music streaming service with this as well…right? Maybe a free phone plan?

    • +7

Heh…not a chance. This is as laughable as their referral program where the referee needs to spend a minimum of $200 and the referrer gets a measly $5 credit.

    • It's not kogan prime

  • +13

    $99/year, and it's kogan 😂

  • so you are roped into $99 a year after the 14 days or can you cancel it? just confirming before i get scammed by kogan

    • +1

You can cancel it and not get charged. I just did when I found out that my area isn't eligible :(

      • +1

So it's first to selected areas?

  • Edifier R1700BT in black for $152 delivered with first.
Had to cancel my trial as it's not available in my area :(

    • +6

      How unedifying.

  • +7

If you cancel any time after signing up for a paid membership or converting from a free trial to a paid membership, you will not be refunded your membership fee regardless of whether you made any eligible purchases or have taken advantage of any Kogan First benefits.

Preying on the ones who forget to cancel. That's so unethical!

    • +6

Dodgy, but no match for our heightened OzBargain senses in detecting an upcoming outflow of funds.

  • +1

I think they've been offering this trial since Kogan First started. I've been waiting until I have a few items to get so as to make the best use of the trial but I haven't wanted to buy more than one eligible item at a time.

    • I'm sure it used to be 30 days. I used it earlier in the year to purchase a $39 keyboard - and then cancelled it.

      • I think you're right. So this "deal" is a reduction from a 30 day trial to a 14 day trial? Whoopee.

  • What is it Chaz; Atomic day? TheFrunj just posted something too :P

    • Oh, hai! *waves* There's a few of us lurking around OB. :)

  • +2

I take it this wouldn't actually cover the expensive shipping items like TV's and other bulky goods.

    • I was checking out some monitors on kogan and they had the badge for kogan first on them so I think at least their own branded large items are included.

      • No, they arent. Got a washing machine (Kogan brand) the other day and was looking into this, was not covered. $60 shipping.

    • That's my experience, see my comment below re Kogan brand washing machine.

  • Is there anything worth buying atm?

I was going to buy the 27" 1440p 144Hz Freesync monitor for $369 + shipping, but procrastinated and now it is back to its full price of $499 + shipping. Not worth buying, especially when AOC CQ32G1 can be bought for less.

  • +3

Suddenly the eBay Plus (plus as in you still pay shipping) deal looks so much sweeter.

    • +20

      eBay Plus = $49/year
      Amazon Prime = $59/year
      Catch Club = $69/year

      Kogan First = $99/year

      • +5

        Woolies wins, $ 169 00 /year.

        • Flawless Victory…

        • And you have to spend $100+/order

Nice summary of all the better choices you have from FireRunner. But I'm also recalling some particularly prickly issues cancelling this one in another forum post. I remember advising the bargainer to remind the service representative he was Kogan First when ringing to cancel and try to get a refund on Kogan First.

OP does not seem to fussed about attracting negative votes for this terrible deal and, given reported issues with Kogan First, I'm happy to oblige. Just for the record, I do think sometimes we overuse the joke post rule - a $400 plastic transparent shirt from Myer down from $879 are both funny and, in some sense, a deal. This "deal" unfortunately; not even funny.

    • +1

This is a deal for the 14-day trial.. Not for the $99 year subscription which of course is a terrible deal. You can't get a refund after the trial as already explained so that's their fault. This is a great deal for the 14 day trial especially if you have multiple accounts. Don't see how this a joke post.

      • The 'joke' is Kogan First. Yes, if you have a number of items lined up and want to do a one-shot trial of the membership then go your hardest. But, as a standalone service, it's terrible value compared to others.

  • +3

Subscription services for free express shipping from Kogan at double Amazon Prime prices is not a deal

  • +1

These subscriptions must be a clearly profitable service for retailers or it wouldn't be spreading.
Unless they are free I will never join.

    • +2

This makes people want to spend more to take advantage of the deal. It's a pretty lucrative idea. Not for 99. No way

    • Which is exactly why I wont use ebay plus. It's bad enough that ebay have forced out small sellers in favour of just being a hosted marketplace for retailers, but now they want to charge money to shop there?

  • +2

As mentioned by others here, $99 per year for Kogan First is not a bargain when compared with Amazon Prime or even eBay Plus.

Professionals will of course be able to make use of the trial period to get free shipping - just don’t forget to cancel!

    • +2

The trick is to cancel it minutes after checking out.

      • Minutes? I’d have both the checkout and cancellation tabs open and cancel within a heart’s beat after ordering. 😜

        • +1

I bet there's 20 pages of tricks to click thru before you can actually cancel….

  • +1

I literally bought something from Kogan two days ago and paid 30 for the slow shipping, good trial deal tho

  • Is this like a shipster replacement

  • +7

What customer service? I'd rather pay AliBaba and the 40 thieves!

    • Best comment I've seen in ages

  • I hardly trust any Kogan branded products any more. Not sure if I will find something worth buying using this trail

    • Trial not trail.

  • I dont get why anyone would deal with Kogan…

    • Their steam mops are ok

  • …WHAT!?!?!?! you have to pay for customer service one year at a time!!!
I'd rather deal with local bricks and mortar shops for purchases over $5…
Then at least i can try and get some free customer service if the item breaks or is not fit for use.

  • Just ordered a washing machine from Kogan with $60 delivery (no option for pick up). Unforutnately this doesnt give free delivery for such items of course! Btw though their washing machines are DAYUM bargains!

  • +7

Hmmm Kogan, Harvey Norman or the Banks… which to choose. NO I think I will stick to the traditional sadomasocism.

  • I guess this only works for people living in cheap postage areas. My postcode is excluded.

    • I raised a support request about my lack of free shipping on a keyboard. Let's see how far that goes.

FYI. The most north I can find free shipping in QLD is Gympie.

      • What the support people said:

Unfortuantely at this stage, we do not have a list of eligible postcodes and therefore can only suggest that you try entering in another postcode to determine whether you can get free shipping.

  • should get koganflix, give some sort of streaming

  • +1

Could not find list of eligible postcodes anywhere. Emailed and the agent has escalated to find out…

    • +1

Good work. You'd think it would be included in the terms and conditions, but I guess that's Kogan for you.

      • +1

Yeah surprised even for Kogan on this, how can you charge $99 for something then not even have listed the areas in which benefits apply to. Very poor.

        • Did you get an answer from Kogan?

          • @JerryB: Nope, it's been two days now. Priority customer service for First members seems to also be nonsense.

  • +1

Comes up as $99 for me

    • me as well

    • Same here… where's the trial!
