If you are after free samples see if any pharmacies near you have the bounty bag :)

They'd already have whatever you put in there, let's be honest.

If it's for a baby shower, buy something for the new parents. Picnic hamper, movie tickets, whatever

Don't those free samples have the words "free" and "samples" printed on them?

Not necessarily in my experience, but they're absolutely tiny (a teaspoon or 2 of moisturiser, bath oil etc) and quite obvious that they're a free sample.

If I am the parent knowing you are asking on Ozbargain for cheap gift hamper for me, I would feel ashamed to invite you.

Even you don't gift or just gift $20 baby bunting gift card, better than sampling online for me.

  • My youngest is 3, so maybe things have changed since then, but back then I contacted lots of companies for samples. Whilst a couple of them sent cute little bottles (clearly labelled "not for resale sale"), mostly they send miniscule sachets or bottles/tubes so tiny that you struggle to get a teaspoon sized amount out. The Bounty Bags and other in-store samples I found the same.
Plus the Bounty Bags are usually given to the parents to be, they would likely have those particular samples and know that they are free samples.
If you don't want to spend much, what about a non-monetary gift like a handmade voucher to help babysitting or cook & deliver them a meal after baby is born?

Don't do it! Skip this idea now! Baby skin is very sensitive so some parents are very fussy about what they use on their kid so any cheap baby supplies you buy might just go in the bin! Such a waste!

Seriously if you are not able to afford much or it's not a close friend, a $20 baby bunting or Myer or DJs gift card will be farrrr more appreciated than cheap baby items. Or go to a Country Road outlet store and buy a baby outfit in a larger size e.g. 6 months - make sure you match it to the weather of that time of year. You can't really go wrong with Country Road branded items. Great quality and non-offensive designs.

  • Oh no i didn’t mean samples. i meant a actual baby products at cheaper prices, like nappies baby wipes etc
I already got them something off their gift registry, but there’s nothing left to buy.

You literally said that in your OP …

    • If you're set on the idea, Big W has the Dymples range, and Kmart has something similar, baby toiletries/bath products staring at $1-2 each.
(However as Gourmet Foodie said above it's likely to go straight in landfill by the parents to be)
