Big W 90 Days Returns

Big W offers 90 days return for nearly everything.
When you return the electronics good within 90 days, what happen to the returned item?

Do they put it back on the shelf and still sell it as “Brand New”?

  • Most likely.

Most of the time, these returns conditions mention "in sellable condition". In which case they should be able to resell it. If they accept it back not in that condition (damaged box, missing manuals etc) then they probably put a sticker on it at a reduced price. I've often seen this at Big W where they have 30 items not in original condition on a set of shelves.

They may have agreements with some suppliers to take them back, but I'd be surprised.

If the box is unopened, then yes 100%.

If its opened/used, then either back to the OEM/supplier or sold at a reduced price.

  • Is it possible to return a plastic storage shelf based on the quality is not what I expected (very poor).
Its already been assembled for 5 mins then. I put everything back in the box.

    • +3

If it's not fit for purpose, or of poor quality, you can return it

  • I work for a major manufacturer that supplies electronic items to the major chains including BigW, my job is to process warranties for said major manufacturer. If it's still sealed and thus resellable then yes it's put back on the shelf, otherwise the store receives a credit and are instructed to dispose of the goods. There's a set dollar limit per transaction and provided that the item value is under that then they are permitted to dispose of the goods.

Their credit requests have the customer complaint summary on them, I got a kick out of one the other week where it said something along the lines of 'Suspect defective, customer couldn't speak English and was yelling and gesturing that the product is bad'… unfortunately most of them are mundane in terms of the customer complaint summary however ones like those do come through every so often.

I will not reveal the company I work for.
