Cashrewards and multiple account issues

Hi everyone, can I please have your opinions for the below matter with Cashrewards (the reason for your vote)? Thank you in advance.
I have not used Cashrewards for a while. One day, I decided to withdraw the fund from one of my accounts (I have 3 accounts with them and been using them since 2015). I received the below email from Cashrewards the next day:

We can see you are attempting to withdraw your Available Rewards from your Cashrewards account. At this time, our system has flagged a possible issue with your account that we need to discuss with you first.
Please reply directly to this email, or via [email protected] so we can let you know what needs to be done.

So I sent them an email to ask: "What is the possible issue with my account and why was my withdrawal rejected?".
A Cashrewards agent named David got back to me with the below response:

The Cashrewards Terms of use on our website states the following:
1. You may only apply for and use one membership account (“Account”).
2. You must not join nor use the Service on behalf of any other individual, including a family member.
3. You must not allow any other individual to use the Service and/or your Account on your behalf.
Can you please let me know which account you would like to keep and close your additional accounts. Once this has been done, the suspension on your account will be lifted.

And here is my reply back:

Hi David,
If I understand the Term of Use correctly, it's not the rule at Cashrewards to have only one account.
1. You may only apply for and use one membership account (“Account”).
"May" doesn't interpret as "Must" obviously. If it's really a rule, you should use MUST.
I'm not sure why having more than one account is considered as fraudulent activity.
Don't you have multiple email addresses registered with different websites. I register one email address to shop at Amazon and another one to shop at AliExpress. What's wrong with that?

Then from David:

I wish to clarify that you can own as many email addresses as you like but you may only use one on Cashrewards. To protect our community from fraud, abuse, and/or any other negative impact, we have implemented a stringent fraud protection system to help maintain integrity and transparency with members and merchants alike.
On this occasion, the system has flagged your member account as it has detected unusual activity or suspects a violation of our Terms of Use. As such, your cashback has been frozen and current transactions declined until such time we hear back from you. Please nominate one account that you wish to keep and close all others. We will unsuspend the account you nominate after we confirm all other accounts have been closed. To close an account just login with that email address and then navigate to My Settings > Close My Account.
We understand this may be frustrating and not ideal, but with your assistance we can resolve this without any further delay.

Then from me:

Hi David,
So what will happen to all my cashback when I close the account?

And the last reply from David:

Thanks for your enquiry.
As a Cashrewards member you may have one Casshrewards account only. Any subsequent accounts found to be in use will remain suspended until they are closed by you or our system automatically close them, and funds in these account will not be redeemable. The following point is located in our terms of use:
Please nominate one account that you wish to keep and close all others. We will unsuspend the account you nominate after we confirm all other accounts have been closed. To close an account just login with that email address and then navigate to My Settings > Close My Account.

You may only apply for and use one membership account (“Account”).

Seems pretty obvious to me that you are only allowed one account?

I side with Cashrewards because of the OP's pathetic attempt at may does not mean must.

    • If it's really a rule…

    To quote my inner tween:
    "Well duh!"

You must be fun at parties…
    Cheat the system, got caught.

Well, so everyone assumes that I have multiple accounts (3 accounts) because I have been trying to cheat the system for bonuses? In the best case scenario, I would get $20 total bonuses with all my 3 accounts.
But no, it's not the case. I have 3 accounts because I used to do a lot of online shopping with 3 of my email addresses. I'm pretty sure many of you have more than one account with eBay or AliExpress, etc, because the target offers.
Again, we are talking about 3 accounts here not hundreds.
If you cheat, you should keep your mouth shut, so no you won't be fun at the party.
I apologise for wasting everyone's time here. I'll request this thread to be closed.

"may" doesn't mean "may only" …

The word “may” and not must or may only, implies you can have multiple

You may eat a zinger, or you may eat two zingers, or you may goto taco bell

Simple they are idiots, I think you have a point

    • 2.3.1 You may only apply for and use one membership account (“Account”).

No, there is no implication there that you can have multiple accounts.

Not to mention, if OP is running multiple, would be safe to assume they each got referral credit from each other, which would be a direct violation as well.

Otherwise, why else would you bother with multiple accounts?

      • +2

My mistake I read it wrong, if it says may only then yes only one account

The way the op was going on, it sounded like May was only used.

Plus i had no idea why someone would want multiple, if it’s used for dodgy bonuses then this is defo bad

    • It does say may only.

  • +4

"May only" means you are allowed to have 0 or 1 account.

"Must" means you are allowed to have 1 account. You are not allowed to have 0 accounts. This is clearly not possible to enforce, so "must" is the incorrect word.

    • Thank you. Your explanation for "may only" has made my day. It's simple but technical as well.
