Do i have to pay out of pocket for Early 2015 MBP Staingate fix?

Just got in touch with Apple Care Live Chat and they said that since it's out of warranty (duh) i have to bring it in to the local Apple Store for inspection and i may be charged for replacement (they used the word "repair expectations" specifically) even though they do have an anti-reflective coating replacement program running atm.

Thought the general consensus on the webs is that they would be willing to fix it for free so long as it is 4 years after the purchase date? I got the product in early 2016 (Jan) overseas.

Anyone experienced the same Staingate problem and have gone through Apple's Staingate fix?

  • If there is no damage to the device (apart from the staingate), Apple will fix it for free as long as it has not passed 4 years from the purchased date.

Edit: Just looking at Apple's website I don't see the Staingate as part of their repair program.

Australian retailers doesn’t have to provide a remedy for goods that have been purchased from overseas.

    • Even when the company operates in Australia? Like the STEAM case

      • Apple Pty Ltd didn’t supply the good. The remedy is provided by the entity that supplied the good.

I got it from them, the official store. Albeit from a different country.

          • @dukeGR4: Apple Pty Ltd is a different entity to the one that you purchased from.

Which country did you buy from?

            • @whooah1979: i like how you started off by being so certain about it when Apple told me that they do have a program for anti-reflective coating replacement in Australia. This is a global problem. Apple isn't based in Australia either affecting thousands of products. There's no subsidiary afaik in Australia. Meaning, you are technically still buying from Apple Inc even in Australia.

              have a read about this.

              • @dukeGR4: They may be providing a repair at your cost as a goodwill gesture.

                • @whooah1979: You don't seem to know what you're talking about either not much we could do here smh

              • @dukeGR4: Did you purchase this good online and was is shipped directly from overseas to your location in Australia?
