I wonder how low they'll go, going to wait before buying

    • +6

It has already been $48 at Harvey Norman and Amazon.

      • +1

        Only on PC

      • +3

Oh I must've missed those deals! Dammit

      • -1

Arrived today, 56 Gigs coming slowly down the pipe.
I don't usually preorder, but the price seemed right, I had free Prime and its one of my fav series (ignoring the clusterphuck tha was presequel).

  • +4

Damn, PC already out of stock.

    • -1

How to play without disc drive?

      • They just give you a code to activate on a launcher (steam, uplay, epic etc).

        • +1

Exclusive to epic for the first 6 months

          • @Obkay: Can the code be redeemed on Steam yet? (Will it be redeemable?)

            • @Shwayne: It cant ever be redeemed on steam since its an epic code in the box. Theres no guarantee that steam will accept these codes in the future.

            • @Shwayne: No, Steam release will be 1yr after Epic Games release. You will need to wait until then if you want the game on Steam and then buy it directly from Steam for the inflated Australian pricing ripoff. All retail copies will be Epic Games codes.

What I want to know is why are physical copies much cheaper than digital copies. Digital ones are $80+ from what I've seen while physical ones have been $60-$68. The advantage of digital copies was that you could preload the download 2 days before release so you can jump straight in on release day. Physical copies just come with a code so it's basically empty box, and you'll need to download the 40-55GBs, but it's definitely worth the ~$30 off

Guessing lack of competition in the digital space. A huge selling point for digital distribution was reduced costs, but many publishers have pocketed the difference both for their bottom line but also because physical retailers would kick up a stink if they were being undercut by the same company. Maybe not so much for PC, but for consoles the system manufacturers especially, and game publishers to an extent, are very reliant on a physical presence to push sales so they need to keep retailers on side. Today a lot of console hardware is sold via physical outlets.

We saw what happened when Sony did the digital only PSP GO and EB Games simply refused to stock it because their shelf space was better suited to systems that would drive software sales.

      • I believe there was a large German retailer as well that stopped stocking Xbox Consoles due to Xbox Game Pass or what ever it's called.

      • It's pretty much this second point. They have a gentleman agreement with retailers.

    • -2

Epic store has it for $59

      • +8

I think you’re looking at the USD price

        • I seem to remember they dont support AUD.

        • +1

Yeah my bad. I got the info from a mate, and really should have checked it myself.

    • +1

Digital copies can be played in 2 consoles simultaneously. Can go halfsies with your mate

    • Probably some agreement with wholesalers that they can't sell the game below RRP on digital distribution platforms for some time, because they'd be undercutting physical stores into oblivion.

  • +2

    PC master race sold out.

    • +34

Cool what else are you not interested in buying

    • +1

Repetitive jokes are a big thing with this franchise though, as are cutscenes. You should be able to skip the cutscenes if you don't care about the story?

    • +7

      I too criticize things I haven't even tried. For instance;

I'd hate to be rich, I've heard money doesn't buy happiness! So I'm not even going to bother.

    • you knocking on the game for having cutscenes? have you played any other AAA game in the last 20 years

  • Don't get the option for same day delivery at checkout, even though it says it's available on their site :(

Edit: they've updated same day delivery for 'home only'

    • For an extra $10.

  • Can the PC one be activated via Steam at some point or only on Epic?

    • Only on Epic.

  • +1

For those that are after the PC version, don't write off the EB Games deal for $29. I traded in copies of Mad Max and Need for Speed Rivals on PS4 which are pretty old games and picked up the PC version. Call ahead to confirm the titles you want to trade are eligible. The minimum trade amount per title is $10 but many unexpected titles will qualify and many stores will still have stock. I went to the Plenty Valley store and they still had a couple of copies.

  • +1

Just wait 2 weeks normal price will be < $50

    • Time will tell. This is a highly anticipated title, GTA3 took forever to get cheap.
Then again, that was a complete game, I expect this will be a little basic in terms of the content with DLC's bulking it out.

      • GTA3?! Whoa that's ooooooooooooooooollllllllllllllllllllllllddddddddddddddd!

  • seriously?
amazon charged me $68 for the preorder last night.. and it hasnt even been shipped yet

edit: quick call to amazon, and been given $10 credit

    • I got $5 credit on chat which is fine.

  • +2

PC version is exclusive to Epic Games, though it doesn't say it anywhere on the description.

This is a dealbreaker for me. I'll just wait 6 months until it comes to Steam

  • +7

Got my first eyebrow raise from EB Games. Told the lady the Harvey Norman price and she immediately said that it can't be $60. Showed her the website and price, she said that it wasn't their website, I expressly told her it definitely is. Eventually she said ok.

Maybe next time I should just buy directly from the cheaper priced location lol.

    • +12

Please do, EB Games is scum, their entire business model is based on ripping off the uninformed.

      • Cant believe they get away with charging $100 for a standard copy of a game and people pay it, its akin to robbery

    • Yeah I hate going in begging for price matches. I just avoid EB Games entirely now (I'm a gold member with 22k+ carrots)

I stick with Amazon and other retailers offering cheaper prices.

  • Apparently the game runs well, but has crashes on the review builds. Personally i'd rather it perform well over stability, because im more annoyed with stutter and slowdown than i am with the entire game crashing.

    • probably shouldnt be satisfied with either poor performance or crashes on a new release. But in saying that i do understand that polished games on release are a rarity nowadays

  • My local Harvey's had no stock and claimed they never received any for ps4. Sent me down to Joyce Mayne which has it at the same price

  • +1

I bought it from JB Hi Fi Hornsby Westfield today and they price matched Harvey Norman at $60

  • -5

Need some weed to go with the game, anyone help out a ozbro

  • PS4: add me lionheart_2281

    • Kate Bush reference?

  • +1

Big W have it for $67 instore even though shelf price says $89.

BUT they pricematched the $60 Harvey Norman price without issue.

  • +2

I find it strange that Amazon ran out of PC stock and there is no option for back ordering it. This leads me to the conclusion that they are sold out at the distribution level and they're having to print more copies in what ever factory they're made.

    • You are right. Harvey norman said they have no stock from the distruber so they're cancelling mine.
