Ryzen 3600 with G Skill RGB

So I need some advice from a PC genius to tell me if I have made a huge mistake.

I just purchase a new PC with Ryzen 3600 on a B450 Tomahawk Max with some G-Skill Trident Z RGB

The model number is F4-3200C16D-16GTZR - Which I have since noticed there is a model F4-3200C16D-16GTZRX (For AMD)

Have I made a terrible mistake here and bought ram that is not going to work?

It doesnt appear on the MSI QVL List, however on the G-Skill QVL List for the ram, the B450 Tomahawk Max does appear.

Please can someone tell me they have this ram running fine for Ryzen at 3200mhz and I am worrying about nothing.

I bought the ram online so I am not to keen to go through a whole returns process if I can avoid it.

HELP! :)

totally agree, it'll work in some capacity for sure. i wouldn't worry too much about it there's a good chance it'll run at 3200 with a few manual timings/voltages changed

    R U OK?

As YLD1 said, 99% sure it'll work without any drama. At most you might need to fiddle with the timings.

Unless you're planning to OC, not going to be an issue.

    • So….fiddling with the timings is just updating the timings in the BIOS? Do you just enter the timings listed on the Ram? like 16-16-16-38 or whatever it is?

Well I'm feeling a bit better about it now if its not that big of an issue :P Hopefully it just works straight up. Maybe the "MAX" BIOS is a bit better.

      • I wouldn't even fiddle with the timings unless you actually run into problems. It's very unlikely it'll be needed, but yes - that'd be done in the BIOS.

Do you just enter the timings listed on the Ram?

Kinda like that but different numbers - ergo fiddling.

  • I run this RAM in my Ryzen build, https://www.umart.com.au/Corsair-16GB--2-x8GB--CMK16GX4M2B30… , and it was designed for Intel X99 and 100 series motherboards. No issues. XMP works fine.

  • I'd highly recommend asking the retailer to change the order to the QVL certified model RAM. Then you know 100% it will work, and 100% you won't have to tinker with the timings.

3rd gen is better compatibility than 2nd gen, but it's not perfect. From experience AMD can be a real headache if you do experience incompatibility issues.

    Your call.

    • Unfortunately I only just noticed this and its awaiting collection the post office today :P Otherwise yeah I probably would have looked at changing it.

I'll build it on the weekend and see what happens!

  • Gskill is common should work

  • It will work. I have a 3700x, x570-f and that exact same ram kit, but a 32gb kit instead, works fine.

You just need to make sure that XMP applies the correct timings (16ns CAS latency for example, mine defaulted to 22, I needed to enable DOCP in BIOS).
